Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

you and the collaboration idiot still think Wolf hasn't turned this roster around?
Well, the roster sure improved when Vrabel and his posse arrived. Does anyone truly believe Mayo Part II along with Wolf would have ended up with a playoff roster last year let alone a trip to the SB?

if what Curran is reporting is true, and Gonzo wants his deal to inflate year over year based on the cap inflating, I see him playing on the tag next year or sitting out.
too bad.
if true, I believe he is getting bad advice
Gonzo is great, but he isn't change the way football pays players great.
I believe Revis was the first player to make “guaranteed” money on his deal. He was also a corner. The difference is I don’t hear anyone naming islands after Gonzo.

Joe Namath was the first. Kirk Cousins was the latest.

Curran is essentially a mouthpiece for the Kraft's. Take anything he reports in disputes with a HUGE grain of salt.

lol you give Curran too much credit. Guy is too low on the mediot totem pole to be a mouthpiece for Kraft. Curran is on his own delusional island because he still resents Kraft for not firing Belichick and keeping Brady as Tom Sr and Alex Guerrero were sources for him. As well as not giving Mayo another year as Curran had unfettered access to Mayo

If Kraft wants something out there he's going to Schefter.

Is Gonzo better than Devon Witherspoon who was taken well before him?? Also I don't remember any Patriots Receiver Running wild in the SB: a testament to Witherspoon.

Gonzalez can't have his cake and it eat. The market "resets" almost every year. He can set the market today but needs to STFU if/when it gets reset in 2027.

I looked it up and there are 3 Pro-Bowl caliber CB's from the 2024 draft who will be eligible for deals next offseason: Quinyon Mitchell (Philly), Cooper DeJean (also Philly) and Kamari Lassiter (Houston).

Philly just might have a problem because they are both going to want to set the new market, and I am not sure they won't deserve it if they play at their established level this year. They are both 1st team All-Pro, something Gonzalez cannot claim.
Agreed the Patriots ain't signing a None QB Position to a Marketings setting deal. That would not be prudent.

That is SOOOOO shallow, that I weep for his generation. Why can't they just be happy being EXTREMELY highly paid for playing a HS sport. It seems so individual and self-centered for a game that is so TEAM oriented, where so much of one's individual success depends on 10 other players doing their jobs.

Personally, I feel bad for Gonzo. Yes, he's on the precipice of the type of generational wealth that 99.99999% of people could only dream of, but that kick in the nuts feeling knowing another CB could take the mantle of highest paid shortly thereafter has got to be troubling.

It would definitely be keeping me up at night wondering how life can be so unfair sometimes.

Well said dude funny but true.

Not sure if I feel more sorry for him, or for Kraft having to shell out some his reported $14B net worth.

Gonzo is greedy and the Krafts are cheap. Not a good combo.

The Krafts aren't cheap. Please. They just might be a bit smarter than other teams and that make them look cheap. Anyone can play and angle really. Gonzo is looking really bad here if this is true and more fuel for my fire (if true) to trade his ass to a ****ty team.

I don’t care who looks bad, I care about our chances in 2026 and beyond.
Trading him only hurts the team this year…..significantly.
Trading him could help down the road….,.if the draft picks work out. Even if they did, they would not be contributing at a Gonzo level in 2027, maybe not even 2028.
It’s in everyone’s best interest to get the deal done.

of course it does
but it takes 2 to tango
RK has already said he is ready to dance. publicly
Gonzo has not said much, but what's been leaked sounds drastic.
Gonzo is great, but not change the way the NFL does business great.
Gonzo has zero leverage here. he really has not seen much money in his career. he has $100m+ waiting for his signature.
Is he going to sit out and risk all of that?

Gonzo definitely won't be able to feed his family with $100+. The unreal world of sports Today.

I’m not on Gonzos side here, nor am I on Krafts
I’m on the fans side, and what’s best for us is getting the deal done.
Regarding what’s been reported, how accurate is any of it? None of us know.
Just because Kraft said they offered him a deal to be the highest paid, doesn’t mean it’s the right deal. His words could’ve meant many things.
Would Gonzo sit out……certainly hope not.

You sure??

How did you get your pic taken with Arnold?

I’m totally on-board with continue paying him on his rookie contract and option / franchise for the next 3-4 years. This position of mine is not new.
That is 100% fine if Gonzo agrees to play under those conditions.

Playing this year and risking injury just isn't a good business decision.

Yes, he has to play a couple of games to make the season count, but je doesn't need to do more than that.
=========
And yes, the team can franchise him. Even then he has options, that would result in him waiting and then signing. '
=====
If no long-term deal can be made, I suggest that he and the team will agree on a roster bonus to get him to play this year, with a condition of a no franchise tag after the season. The team would probably be off better of trading him. Yes, our 2026 SB chance would be less, but our 2027 and 2028 chances might be much better.
