How could Hoyer and Brissett be ex teammates per rappaport? I thought Brissett went to colts before jimmy g traded to 49ers and Hoyer came back to pats?
Rapaport is a liar.

Personally, i don't mind Hoyer leaving

His biggest strenght nowadays is "knowing the system" and isnt that the very BASIC needed to be accountable in our team?

Hoyer did look decent this pre-season, but i cant get the feeling that he was way closer to the end than Brady...

Yeah, i know of the reports of him being a great "Scout" QB ... But yeah, i don't know, this is something that falls more on coaches than on him, IMHO.

We need new players, Hoyer was one of the weakest players, capacity-wise, in the roster. Makes sense for him to go and i wont miss him

That being said, yeah, i feel like we could've got something for him

Maybe some, but Indy needed a QB because I believe Luck blindsided them by retiring.

Brisset just doesnt do it for me. Hoyer played real good for the Browns until he go wacked running the ball and landed on IR.
I never thought Brissett was an NFL "starter". I still don't. Decent backup. Thats it.

Luck totally blindsided them no question.

Agree he isn’t a quality starter. Which questions whether he is a good backup since the definition of good backup is could start and be good if needed. Although backups across the league pretty much suck.

1. I think people are missing the fact that Hoyer has a say in where he plays.
2. Why would Hoyer want to play somewhere for a 1 year $1.5M deal when he could get a 4 year $12M deal?
3. Why would Indy send any pick when Indy knows they can over pay and get Hoyer with no picks?
4. Indy talks to Hoyer's agent, Hoyer's agent tells BB and any team that Hoyer has a deal and will not report if traded.
5. NFL contracts do not mean the players are without options. Just call the agent ;-).
6. BB knows the drill and respects the players. All the players know that BB genuinely respects their commitment and personal situation. Look at Bennett's comments earlier this year.
7. Older free agent contracts are one of the Pats lifelines as we pick at the bottom of every draft round.
8. The 6th or 7th rounder is not as important as BB's reputation.
9. Indy has > $15M in cap space in 2020 and will pick a rookie QB in the 2020 draft - Hoyer is the perfect player/coach in Indy. Smart move by Indy.

They must of done him a favor or thought that they could get him back.
Or maybe he said he’d retire if he was traded. Since his agent may have known that there was 9 mil waiting for him in free agency.

Cassel is available if we need a QB later. That’d be super cool to see Cassel back a decade after he left.

Simple.
The NFL trade is a lost art.....

....The MLB still holds some intrigue with the trade deadline.....

I hear ya, but, given MLBs’s greatest player today (I hear his name is Trout?) couldn’t be recognized by 98%of Americans, I would say that “intrigue” is with a very small circle.....

You forgot the laughing emoji.

I'd rather roll with Stidham then bring back Cassel.

9 million to be a backup? Good for him and securing his last payday, but how much is Brissette making?

Etling is warmed up and ready for the PS!

Overreact much Ken? With veterans like Hoyer you give them the respect to go get the best opportunity they can. They have plenty of picks, and Belichick can create more pretty much any time he wants, especially during the draft. Hoyer wasn’t going to win a SB for them, and he got the best deal he could. Good for him.

So Bill purposely gave up a 4th or 5th rounder for "respect" for Hoyer? I really doubt it. Seems like a miscalculation to me.

I'm guessing he calculated that what he might have gotten wasn't worth as much as the goodwill he gained by letting Hoyer get a good pay day. This adds to the branding that the Patriots take care of hard working veterans. "Come on over, veterans. Take a team friendly deal and "you'll be taken care of later on".

Just saying ...

I thought our branding was that we won Superbowls. I thought it was well known we were pretty vicious with veterans on the decline..........

Indy's results VS pats since 2010

0/04/2018 Indianapolis Colts 24 @ New England Patriots 38 L Box
10/18/2015 New England Patriots 34 @ Indianapolis Colts 27 L Box
01/18/2015 * Indianapolis Colts 7 @ New England Patriots 45 L Box
11/16/2014 New England Patriots 42 @ Indianapolis Colts 20 L Box
01/11/2014 † Indianapolis Colts 22 @ New England Patriots 43 L Box
11/18/2012 Indianapolis Colts 24 @ New England Patriots 59 L Box
12/04/2011 Indianapolis Colts 24 @ New England Patriots 31 L Box
11/21/2010 Indianapolis Colts 28 @ New England Patriots 31 L Box

Luck lost every game to Pats in his entire career.

Which player on the 53 would you have given up?

This isn't a matter of respect. It's a matter of making the best decision for the good of the team. (where have I heard that before. )

But you can still respect the player. Nothing says you can't involve him by asking him where he'd prefer to go, and THEN release him if you can't get a trade in those places. The Colts had a clear and obvious need even from a casual fan's prospective....and you don't even ASK?
