If you knew that you were going to cut Hoyer, WHY in God's name didn't you try and get at least SOME value for him
My point is I Dont think they would even entertain a trade with us.I’m with Ken. They could have “respectfully” dealt him to the Colts for a 6th or 7th rounder.
.
I'm guessing he calculated that what he might have gotten wasn't worth as much as the goodwill he gained by letting Hoyer get a good pay day. This adds to the branding that the Patriots take care of hard working veterans. "Come on over, veterans. Take a team friendly deal and "you'll be taken care of later on".
Just saying ...

But I agree a 6th possible 5th wouldnt of been out of the question.
Either BB wanted him back or was doing him a favor to shop his market and deciding what was best for him and his family.
If it was the latter BB did the right thing Hoyer have us so much and deserved that.

This makes way more sense than BB just letting him walk without trying but won't stop some from *****ing about it.They would have had to keep Hoyer on the 53 in order to trade him. And who says they did not try to do it before they released him. The roster spot was important and they may have just run out of time with a team that knew he was going to be released.
Who cares..
It's called doing a loyal vet a solid.And so....my ignominy is compete.
.......And now comes the ANGER! WTF, Bill? If you knew that you were going to cut Hoyer, WHY in God's name didn't you try and get at least SOME value for him. You mean to tell me you couldn't have gotten at least a 5th or 6th rounder. Christ, you paid that much for 2 fatties that would have been cut if you hadn't grabbed them. You're telling me that a QB to a needy team like the Colts wouldn't have gotten you MORE.
Sorry but while we owe Bill a LOT for the last 20 years, occasionally even he makes mistakes, and in the great scheme of things this isn't even a big one. Just seems like a waste to me.
They would have gotten him on a cheaper contract...... even if it was a one year deal....Why would the Colts trade for him if they had a strong indication he was going to get released. They have a boatload of money available and wanted to keep picks / players.

He isn’t. Think Colts probably paid way more than anybody else was willing to. Bill probably peaked interest to help Hoyer out.How come we weren't able to trade him if he's receiving a 3yr $12m deal with $9m in guarantees.
And he got his ring last year..............Brian Hoyer Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap
Career earnings: $15 mil.
This contract: $12 mil, $9mil guaranteed.
Happy for Hoyer. Brian... thanks.
They have boatloads of cap space (The Colts) and they wanted Hoyer for more than one year. They would have gotten him on a cheaper contract...... even if it was a one year deal....
The Brissett/Dorsett trade came before the whole Josh debacle. Even Ballard said the rivalry is back on.Why’s that? Didn’t we trade Brissett for Dorset when the feelings were more raw?
