How could Hoyer and Brissett be ex teammates per rappaport? I thought Brissett went to colts before jimmy g traded to 49ers and Hoyer came back to pats?

If you knew that you were going to cut Hoyer, WHY in God's name didn't you try and get at least SOME value for him

I'm guessing he calculated that what he might have gotten wasn't worth as much as the goodwill he gained by letting Hoyer get a good pay day. This adds to the branding that the Patriots take care of hard working veterans. "Come on over, veterans. Take a team friendly deal and "you'll be taken care of later on".

I’m with Ken. They could have “respectfully” dealt him to the Colts for a 6th or 7th rounder.

My point is I Dont think they would even entertain a trade with us.
But I agree a 6th possible 5th wouldnt of been out of the question.
Either BB wanted him back or was doing him a favor to shop his market and deciding what was best for him and his family.
If it was the latter BB did the right thing Hoyer gave us so much and deserved that.

They would have had to keep Hoyer on the 53 in order to trade him. And who says they did not try to do it before they released him. The roster spot was important and they may have just run out of time with a team that knew he was going to be released.

That would have cost him at least 7 million. He just got 9 million guaranteed from Indy. It’s the same with Thomas, you do yourself a favor if you give these veterans the ability to choose their own destination and deal.

Sorry but while we owe Bill a LOT for the last 20 years, occasionally even he makes mistakes, and in the great scheme of things this isn't even a big one. Just seems like a waste to me.

It's called doing a loyal vet a solid.

I don't think that's a mistake. That gets out to every free agent in the league, that Bill will do right by you. That matters almost as much as 'ring chasing'.

And it's worth a whole lot more than a conditional 7th. Especially when you still have a dozen picks.

He isn’t. Think Colts probably paid way more than anybody else was willing to. Bill probably peaked interest to help Hoyer out.
