Celtics trade Isaiah Thomas, Brooklyn 2018 pick & players for Kyrie Irving

Wow. Per SI, trade could be voided due to Thomas' inability to pass the physical. Cavs supposedly "weighing options" after IT leaves Cleveland, yesterday.

Report: Cavs "weighing options" after evaluating Thomas's hip

Lol, the Cavs options are:

Void the trade because Thomas has a bum hip, and bring back Kyrie Irving who is going to hate every second of being there now

or

Let the trade go through, because they really only care about the Brooklyn pick, and get whatever you can get from Thomas before he can't walk anymore.

Good luck, Cleveland.

I'm thinking they could still get a decent player + top 10-15 pick, should they void the trade due to IT's hip. Without a doubt.

Didn't a story break today about how close they were to getting PG + Bledsoe in a 3 team deal?

So after next year, you're Cleveland, and you're gonna sell Eric Bledsoe and the rotational guy you get at #14? Yikes. While George and James go to the Lakers for nothing.

Boston would be getting back a pair of pissed off veterans, but a bad deal would be undone, and they'd get back the pick they never should have let go.

Bad deal or not, One pissed off veteran (JAG Jae Crowder) still has a nice expiring contract that you can trade for pretty much anything, and letting Thomas walk at the end of the year becomes much, much easier if he's got the bum hip some people think he does. Or, he's also a very nice expiring contract for someone too, whether he can play or not.

Most importantly though, the Brooklyn pick comes back, as does the opportunity at two picks in the top 5. Celtics are sort of win-win here.

Looks like Cleveland is having second thoughts based on IT hip injury, stay tuned for breaking developments.. and I was led to believe by the talk show idiots that the trade was about the Brooklyn pick.

It'd be awkward here too. IT and Jae and to a lesser degree Zizic coming back knowing they have no future here, oy!

CLE can void the deal and IMHO probably will, but part of the reason their A+ grade was an A+ was because everyone seemed to be not factoring in IT's hip injury.

Everyone also has a fascination with high draft picks and tend to presume they will deliver an instant superstar, when in reality they deliver a chance to get a potential superstar a year from now that might end up being a flop and will probably need some time to develop. That's the great thing about the unknown, it can become anything you want it to be, and it's well known that humans have an 'optimism bias' that projects the best possible outcome even in the face of evidence it might not happen.

Cle looking for another pick, playing chicken. We shall see.

Imo cleveland is trying to get more out of the celtics, they knew IT had a bad hip. I wouldn't be surprised if they're asking for jason tatum to be thrown into the pot. Screw them, they already got more for irving than chicago got for butler, or indy got for george paul.

Yeah, that's the theory being floated. Kind of makes sense in that the only ones who could/would leak the story of the physical would be the CLE side. Yet there's so many other down sides to leak it. The trade would have put them on a good trajectory, and now that's all up in the air.

Yep, pretty much every site already gave CLE an A+ for the trade and it's crazy to think they are trying to get more. If Danny gives them anything, he's an idiot. CLE needs this trade to go through at much as we do, if not more. Without the pick they have nothing in hand to offer any hope as LeBron leaves. With the pick, at least they have a hope of getting a cornerstone player.

For us, if the trade gets called off, the trade made it clear that it's gonna be IT's last year here, so you gotta think he'll be motivated to have a good run once he's ready to play. Then it's all back to seeing what the BKY pick brings in.

Some writers think just the one pick is the entire basis of the upcoming CLE rebuild:
That's why that pick is so vital, and the Cavs should be thanking their lucky stars that they got it. Coming into this summer, they had no cap room and no draft picks to trade until 2021. They tried to move Kevin Love, but nobody was interested. They struck out on George. Struck out on Butler. Even if they pull back this trade, Kyrie is gone, and if LeBron leaves too, what is Cleveland going to do? Re-sign Love and roll with him as its No. 1? No way. The Cavs are going to clear the deck and start over -- only without an asset like that Nets pick to get the rebuild started.

Ref: Cavs face crossroads decision with Isaiah Thomas' hip putting trade on hold

To me that's waaaaay overselling the pick. We don't know what position it will be, and we don't know what player will be there in that position, and we don't know how long that player will take to develop. However it's a bright shiny object for the fans to focus on as LeBron packs his bags, so they need it bad.

Irving is better than butler and George is a one year rental

Cleveland knew Isaiah had a hip injury.. it happened against the Cavs in the EC Finals lol.. This is BS.

However I feel bad for IT if his hip is really that bad. Going into his contract year and having hip problems is very bad knews for him.

That truck might not be backing up full of money after all.

Unless its a rubbish truck...

This is a mess. They were already giving up to much. Danny should tell them no. Let them void the trade and take there chances repairing their relationships with Thomas and Crowder. Thomas needs a great year to get paid.

It seems it's going down that way. There's no need to give CLE anything more. Neither team want to deal with the aftermath of a voided deal. I really wonder what CLE was thinking when they leaked the results of the physical.

It is complete ********.

Personnel leaders do deals based on trust.

I'm 100% confident Danny was transparent.

While young and inexperienced as a GM, I don't think this is on Koby Altman.

This "renegotiation" is all Dan Gilbert. I bet he found out IT wouldnt be ready until around Thanksgiving or XMas and threw a classic petulent owner, hissy fit. He's such a ****head

I expect this to go to Wyc's level and ultimately to Silver's.

It'll get resolved. Irving will be in green eventually.

Does IT sign something that Cleveland the right to publicize his health records?

HIPPA is serious. One of my wife's physicians sent her medical report to me, by mistake, because the clerk was from the neolithic era and decided that the man of the family must be in charge and managing all the finances. When we complained, you'd have thought the entire medical practice stopped what they were doing to apologize. It scared the heck out of them. We didn't even get upset, really, just pointed it out to them. Later I had an attorney tell me that we could have gotten $10K in a settlement just by bringing suit, without argument from the practice or their insurance company. My wife would have had to feign injury in some way (i.e. lie about the impact on her) but people do that all the time.

I agree, Thomas hip injury was common knowledge and even though I think it's a good deal for both sides I would tell Cleveland to pound sand if they want more. They can take Irvingback and lose the Brooklyn pick.
