Ceasars: "Patriots roster outside of cornerback 'one of the worst in the NFL'"

As of today? RT is a question mark, TE is the worst in the NFL, WRs are among the worst in the NFL, QB is an unproven commodity that was a complete no-show in some big spots in college, DT is meh, DEs are passable, LB is a hole/question mark outside of Hightower, CB position is the best in the NFL right now and is absolutely loaded (which means that BB will probably trade Gilmore and shoot a hole right through that position group), and McCourty is still one of the best FS in the NFL, while Harmon is gone and Chung has aged noticeably. It's not a good very talented roster at all. I don't think it's the worst, but it's depleted of young talent. Of course, the draft could easily change that as could freeing up some extra cash via a Thuney extension. But BB has his work cut out for him and he has his drafts since 2014 to thank for that.

A few of you guys are WAAAAY off with your TE grades being F.

It should be F-

My ratings (in comparison to all other 31 NFL teams):

Secondary: A+, maybe top 3.

Last year in the final 8 games plus the playoff game the patriots were a bottom 10 offense in the league. Plug a quarterback with no experience into said offense. We'll have another bottom 10 offense. Last year over the final 8 games the defense was not good when it mattered - let Miami and Tennessee move the ball at the worst possible times. Subtract from that defense Van Noy, Harmon, and others I can't remember. Also, the fanboys want to forget the fact that once opposing offenses stopped throwing the ball to the Patriots and ****ing up on special teams, the Patriots defense was average at best.
Yes, this roster is not good. This roster is a bottom 25% of the NFL roster. And I'm going to predict that Gilmore has a poor season, similar to Devin McCourty's poor season at corner the preceded his switch the safety...
Even Gilmore is gonna suck? And I thought I was pessimistic.

So Caesar's has them as the worst roster in the league but their win total is at 8.5? Either one of these things is not like the other or they think BB is God

The head bookmaker at Caesar's expressed his personal opinion, nothing more. It is given far too much weight when the headlines make it sound like he somehow represents all opinion of the entire hotel/casino.

The 8.5 represents his best guess at how the gambling public at large feels about the issue; i.e. half bet over, half bet under.

My ratings (in comparison to all other 31 NFL teams):

Secondary: A+, maybe top 3.

Linebackers: C-, but it is April.

Defensive line: C, but it is April.

Offensive line: A-, depending on whether last year was a fluke or not.

TE: F

RB/FB: B+, we have great depth here.

WR: B-, I think Edelman/Sanu were more injured last year than we think and expect Meyers/Harry to take a step forward.

QB: Unknown....but I feel good about StUdham!

ST Coverage Units: A+ even with losing Ebner.

ST Return Units: B+, I think Olszewski should be the guy.

K: It's April.

P: A+

LS: A+

OFFENSE AS OF NOW - C-
We have no TE, and our WR'sare far from being a B-.
At RB, we have B- backups for B- starters; It would be worse without White.
I don't see how our QB situation can be considered better than a C-.
I think that we have an A OL if everyone is healthy.

DEFENSE OUTSIDE OF SECONDARY
LB C- It's April, but we're judging in April)
DL C

SPECIAL TEAMS - B (not better than B without a kicker
We lack a kicker and a good returner.
Our coverage teams are the best in the league.
Our punter is excellent

BOTTOM LINE
If look at the totality of our team outside of our secondary, we have a very weak team with bright spots and in some ST categories. No, it isn't the worst in the NFL, but is worse than any team that I would call a contender for the playoffs.

And still, BUF is only a slight favorite to win the division at this point. The oddsmakers understand that this April, and that we are a long way from being how good this team is in November.

THAT BEING SAID, THIS IS APRIL
Adding Howard and would help.
It would help to get draft help in the first 125 picks at LB, DT, EDGE, and WR. (and OT)
We want one of the top kickers, probably in the 5th.
Getting additional help at QB will help (probably after the draft).
Finally, we will need to add a couple of veterans, probably a couple by trade.

So Caesar's has them as the worst roster in the league but their win total is at 8.5? Either one of these things is not like the other or they think BB is God

The bettors think the Belichick and the staff are Gods.

Today, lets wait until the season starts whenever that will be.

If this offense is the worst in the league, a couple of improvements (Howard and drafting a WR or two) isn't going to make the offense even an average offense.

To be competitive in reaching the playoffs, I think that we need at least an average offense. This is true even if we have a top 5 defense and a top 5 ST corps.

Even Gilmore is gonna suck? And I thought I was pessimistic.
I didn't say he was going to suck, said poor season. Probably should have qualified it with "compared to 2019"...a "big" step back probably better characterization

On paper it is 100% true.
But as one other poster said, its April.
The next 2 weeks will answer the questions as to what BB is thinking and what the future holds.

Think I read Vegas added an extra win for Belichick, which is a huge deal because coaches are statistically almost irrelevant. 7.5 wins based on the roster. 8.5 wins with Belichick added.

Besides TE and the defensive line we have a above average team, at least, in every position.
Best secondary in the nfl
Top 5 OL

He made a pro-bowl as a CB
Oh right, because had 7 INT’s fall into his lap that year? He wasn’t very good at CB and they moved him to S when Chung got injured. If he was good at CB, they would’ve moved him back. He struggled greatly when isolated one on one with WR’s. He took advantage of the switch like Malcolm Jenkins did, who was also terrible at CB.
