Ceasars: "Patriots roster outside of cornerback 'one of the worst in the NFL'"

I think the defense is a Gilmore injury away from being below average, and no, you can’t say that about most defenses.

Gilmore is just a huge outlier and freak of nature. Take him away and this isn’t such an impressive unit at all. With him in the lineup, there’s a huge ripple effect that makes everyone better.

Excellent CBs
Unfairly maligned OL
Good receiving RBs
Not much beyond that
Likely bear of a schedule

This is not a good team right now, but some of that win total is still going to be about the QB, and that's still an unknown.

Our secondary can‘t do sth. when our pass rush s****. That happened in the end of the last season when our LB degressed and since we don‘t have really a pass rush DT force except from maybe Butler.

OL should be good this year. A healthy OL with a real FB should help the running game a lot. TE is a clear area of need and WR is "ok" at this point. We could see some real improvement from the 2nd year guys. THe RB are very good compared to the rest of the league. Let's not forget that the Patriots may have a QB that can actually run with the ball.

I like the CB situation, even if Gimore got hurt. J.C Jackson, Jones, Williams, and McCourty should be good enough.

The LB situation is "okay." They could go with Hightower, Bently and a hybrid safety with Winovitch as a pass rusher or off the ball.

DL is underrated.

Overall, the defense is in good shape to compete.

The rubber hits the road for real this season.

My theory is that Brady covered up for a lot of poor to terrible drafting. With TFB the Pats always won 10 games plus and made the post season. NE owned the division, though truthfully, the AFCE has been pretty bad over the last 20 years.

Compile a group of problematic and misfit NFL WRs (with the exception of Edelman) and basically no TE and NE still won 12 games last season. 16 - 0 was a reality last season. We as spectators have become so immune to winning that its expected. Some NFL franchises require 2 seasons to win 12 games.

The old cliche is that "you do not realize what you had until its gone." Were about to find out.

I hope BB is reading all these insightful evaluations. It will supplement Tom Curran's input on how BB should draft and coach his team.

This year might be tough because of turnover and tough schedule but I think if you are able to maintain your sanity (very questionable) you will be rewarded in 2021 with a return to the top. I must stop now and go mix another batch of kool aid.

They aren’t wrong. Most of the positions on the team are either mediocre or outright weaknesses.

Positive: CB

Neutral: OL, RB, S

Weakness: WR, TE, DL, LB, ST, QB

I didn't say he was going to suck, said poor season. Probably should have qualified it with "compared to 2019"...a "big" step back probably better characterization

Can I ask what you are basing this on? Just a "hunch"?

One of the worst rosters in the NFL but gets the overs set at 8.5. One of the two is hyperbolic ********.

Same crap like people who called last years offense dead in the water even though it was above average in essentially every metric (including DVOA).

Not being top in something doesn't mean you are garbage.

Being average also doesn't mean you are garbage.

Have some perspective.

The passing offense was not good.

Toms 1st 8 games
65% comp. 281ypg 1.62 passing TD/G/g 95rating 31ppg, 3.1 offensive TDs/G

Toms last 9 games
56% comp, 224ypg, 1.2 passingTD/G, 80 rating , 20ppg, 2.0 offensive TDs/G

Blame it on whomever but the last 9 games the offense was garbage. No sugar coating it.

I’ll play:

Secondary: A. Top unit in the NFL.

Linebackers: C-. Winovich has potential.

Defensive line: D. No space eating NT. DE’s are weak.

Offensive line: B-. I’m not sold on Wynn yet. Andrews thinks he’s on track to return. Line struggled without TE’s and a FB.

TE: F.

RB/FB: C. Michel is looking like a JAG. His game reminds me of BJGE. White is White. Burkhead has 9 lives.

WR: D-. the unit I hate the most. Edelman prevents this from getting an F. This unit graded out as the worst at getting separation.

QB: incomplete.

ST Coverage Units: A. Slater. Enough said.

ST Return Units: F.

K: Incomplete.

P: A

LS: A.
With regard to the OL, we don't know for sure if Andrews is 100% healthy
or whether Thuney will have to be traded to get a little salary cap room to operate.

The good news is there is no team yet. No training camp, no preseason, it's hard to tell. I do expect a competitive team due to coaching.

It's April. I fully expect the Pats load up in the draft. Also if I had to pick one area of strength I would want on any team it would the secondary. That helps the line and also keeps chunk yardage way down. We also need a kicker too as that position carries points and is essential. I fully expect BB to work his magic but will have to wait and see what he has at QB to determine if this team has any chance to compete.

For the OL I agree. A healthy Wynn and Andrews should make that rock solid.

Problem everywhere else is age. Too many old guys still being cornerstones. Hightower showing his age hurts our LB Corp. Chung and McCourty losing a step can really mess with a secondary even with Gilmore. Edelman now has been seriously injured 2 of the last 3 years and he’s our top WR.

Overall there are absolutely worse rosters. The draft hasn’t even happened yet. Dumb statement.
I'm not sure some of you fully grasp how this gambling thing works. Caesar's - and the other gambling shops - have set an over/under line for RIGHT NOW and explained their rationale behind it. Gambler's are betting the current lines. After the draft the over/under lines will change and they'll continue to change through training camp and up until the first game of the season.

Some of you are looking at a current snapshot in time by the casinos and acting like it's written in stone for the rest of the season.

What if Tom was the problem? What if Stid lights it up? What if Harry's development is no longer held back by crabby Tom Brady?

We are gonna learn a lot this year.

So Caesar's has them as the worst roster in the league but their win total is at 8.5? Either one of these things is not like the other or they think BB is God

That’s silly. BB is not God, he’s the Emperor.

Gosh, I really hope that happens. That somehow Stidham is a jewel in the making.
