Carter & Hunter gone by 4# Trade down?

Honest question and since we were in a similar boat last year I should probably know the answer. But who are these teams that got buoyed to contention by trading away a top 5 pick for a haul?

The only team that comes to mind is the Bears who got a lot including being in a position to get Williams. But then they wind up with 5 wins.

I must be blanking on a few examples but I feel like nailing your top 5 pick has a bigger impact than getting a haul.

And “ the haul” isn’t what people think it is. First of all people say they are getting “ 3 “ first round picks, when in truth it’s 2, because one of them is a pick swap where you get a worse first round pick. Then, because you passed up the QB, you have to turn around and give up just as much to get back up and get your franchise QB.

We don’t need a QB now.

The year prior they traded back and drafted an All Pro CB.
We were so lucky the Commanders were being run by idiots. Otherwise no Gonzo for us. Should have never traded back when he fell to 14.

That was a great pick by Belichick.

Added a 4th round pick and got their player... smart.

I have no doubt hes a top 5 pick.

Solid points. Iggles proved you can win w SB with solid D, competent QB and an all-world RB.
right

So, just declare that he is an all-world RB and sell Super Bowl tickers. NOT! no RB is worth has been worth the 4th pick in the draft in a very long time.

Please list the current RB stars who you would trade our 4th overall to get.

Define very long time.

Barkley was 2nd overall in 2018. Clearly worth it.

Bijan Robinson was 8th overall two years ago and just had a monster year. Clearly worth it.

As the NEP I wouldn't draft a RB 4th because the O and D lines suck. Higher priority.

The English language is a beautiful thing.

Presuming, the rumors were true,

Patriots could have traded ONE 1st round pick for THREE 1st round picks.
======
Some think this MEANS that we were getting TWO first round picks in trade for our ONE pick.

In the English language, the situation is clear.

Trading down can be a good idea depending.. but you need a dance partner. Who will be there at 4 who is worth a trade up?

Carter, Hunter and Cam are the most interesting players... some people believe in Graham... some don't. We can hope the 2nd QB in Sanders is worth it to some desperate teams. I think there is a chance someone will if he shows out in the combine... his tape and stats are impressive. But am i sure someone will pay up the nose for him? No.

So let's assume the top 3 guys are gone and someone offers a trade. I don't need a kings ransom of 3 1st... but there is certainly a package below that i would consider if i were the Pats.

McMillian (WR), Warren (TE) Loveland (TE) Burden (WR) to me are all very good players... if we can leave this draft with 2 of them with a trade down I would not be upset. Particularly if we land McMillian AND Warren. That be an injection into this offense for sure. The rest of the draft can be addressing the D and whatever we didn't address in the OL in free agency.

I agree that Barkley was well worth it.

Drafting a RB in the Top 5 should be for someone that you judge to be a perennial all-pro. That doesn't always work out, bur Barkley was indeed worth the choice and turned out to be work out in his career, well once PHI recognized his worth.

Judging an 8th round draft pick is a bit different. Many wouldn't have drafted Robinson at 8. Many thought that he should have been drafted higher, some lower. He was BPA at 8 and was probably a good pick even after team adjustment with regard to their evaluation of how much various positions are worth. BPA is very important, but all teams make adjustments. For example, some think that pure centers are worth less if their talent is "BPA" at 8. 1000+ yards monster seasons at RB often have some to do with talent, but more to do with the quality of the Ll and the offensive scheme of the team.

IMO, college running backs are considerably overvalued. In college, a first-round prospect RB they rarely had an role other than being the primary weapon on the team. How many top college running backs can pick up a blitz, protect the QB in a passing situation or block if necessary? As an aside, fullbacks should be part of the pro game. Unfortunately, the skills needed for a top fullback are not part of the skillset of a top college RB.
