Abdul Carter at 4#. Hunter has gone do we trade?

Yep, he struggled so much he let up 3 sacks his last 2 years at LSU, playing against the best talent in college football. But at least he likes playing football.
N'Keal Harry dominated against college defensive talent as well.

At least if Membou ends up at RT long term, one tackle position is addressed.

Pick Graham. Best D line in the NFL. D wins playoff games.
Over Carter?

1) Yes
- He's an EDGE and EDGE only. He's too small to play 4-3 DE, and not skilled enough in pass coverage to play OLB.
2) No
-It's not a pressing need. If this was Myles Garrett, it would be another thing entirely. He's not. This is a guy Will Campbell could handle easily, even with his t-rex arms.
"too small to play 4-3 DE, and not skilled enough in pass coverage to play OLB" sounds like a post straight out of 2004. It's all nickel now. 4-3 or 3-4 doesn't exist anymore for the most part. Like 99% of the snaps are either nickel (the new base defense) or a goal line package.

I'm talking about today though. He can't cover, and doesn't edge-set. He pass rushes. That's all he does. So 'he's too small to play 4-2-5 DE and not skilled enough in pass coverage to play OLB in a 3-3-5' 4-3/3-4 is just shorthand for 4-man front/3-man front which is a lot longer to type out.

Hope this helps.

The surest way to stay mediocre is to pass on potentially elite talent in favor of more guys with a lot less talent

We're 4-13 which means we're looking up at mediocre.

But, yeah, generational talent is just that, generational.

The only way you pass on it is if someone offers you a deal you simply can't refuse like multiple 1sts/2nds this year and next.

If not, you're better off with the lottery pick you have versus the ones you trade down to get.

I’m warming up to Graham at 4.
That D line would be nasty with him Williams and hopefully a fully healed BARMORE.

I'm not sure those stats mean anything when all draftable college OTs have the same numbers as far as sacks allowed. There's Milum, who put up the same numbers or better, all at LT. He won't hear his name called until day 3 and is projected by absolutely no one to remain at OT.

P.s. not arguing, just pointing out the use of a broken measuring stick.

Milum didn’t play against the best pass rushers in the country. Campbell was racing Jared Verse when he was 18.

True. Milum isn't the best example. The point is still the same.

The question is how much he adds to what we HAVE compared to one of the LT's plus a pick.
My point is calling out our awful pass rush last year.

If it's Carter v Campbell or any other LT at #4 Carter is the choice.

Move up to take a LT mid/late rd 1

I think the fact that both Will Campbell and Mason Graham were able to come in and start at major college programs as 18 year olds, play at a high level, and stay on the field all 3 seasons and become the team leaders demonstrates that they can make the jump to the next level and continue to perform at a high level. I think both will grow significantly as players when they get to the NFL, and will become stalwarts for whomever takes them. That’s just my take on it, but I’m convinced of it.

Much as I want the left tackle I agree that you have to take Carter if he’s there. Too much talent to pass on. He would make the Patriots pass rush nasty as can be. However if you take him you risk not fixing left tackle for another season.

Yea. I'm assuming they would trade up/take a LT in the bottom 1/2, late 1st rd.

But yea, Carter's talent is too good to pass up.

Let’s drag Mayo before a tribunal in Foxboro so he can explain the importance of the victory that trashed the opportunity for Hunter or Carter.

I’m resigned to Hunter being unavailable.

Don’t want Carter.

If they can’t trade back, I’m fine with Campbell, Jeanty, Warren, or Walker at #4. Possibly Membou if they feel convicted he’s a LT.
