Backup QB: Bledsoe baby!
RB: Dillon & Faulk
WR: Moss, Edelman, Branch, Givens (D-money)
TE: Gronk
OL: Solder, Mankins, Koppen, Mason, Light, Woody

DL: Seymour, Flowers, Wilfork, Ninkovich, (Warren)
LB: McGinest, Hightower, Bruschi, Vrable (Mayo)
CB: Law, Gilmore (Butler)
S: Harrison, McCourty, (Milloy/Harmon)

K: Vinitari
If we are basing this on "The Super Bowl" team no other Qb qualifies than TB12 but if we are basing the criteria on how WE THINK the backup would play in the SB I would prioritize Bledsoe over Jimmy for the reason he has more experience in the playoffs.

Bledsoe played a role in the 2001 playoff run as a backup. He certainly belongs.

It's odd to see so many fans rank the all-time B&B era players by selecting players that were only part of the 2 losses and none of the 5 wins. I would not have Moss, Welker or Mankins on my list just for that reason.

What's odd is you using that criteria, when it's meaningless.

Ridley is a name I definitely didn't expect to see on this here. What's your thinking in having Roman Pheifer in there over Vrabel and Mayo?

Ridley ran for 1263 yds in 2012. That's a legitimate top-10 RB type production. Fumble issues and lack of versatility hurt him here, but if I want a back-up for Dillon's production, it's Ridley.

Roman Phiefer was an absolute beast, and played at an all-pro level, stout against the run, and able to rush the passer. They don't win in 2001 without Roman Pheifer holding down that LB corps.

Thats what I tried to do. Selections were based on Super Bowl performances and playoffs second.

Mankins had a bad 42 and an ok 46 (granted he was playing on one leg). I picked Andruzzi and Steve Neal as my guards.

Welker had a very good 42 but obviously the drop in 46 hurt him. Moss caught the go-ahead TD and was double-teamed all game so I don't have anything against him. However based on performance, Branch, DA and JE11 are clear-cut choices over Moss and WW.

Yeah, I get were you are coming from. Guys that are jinxed that just can't do it when the big dance comes. You see it in coaches - Andy Reid and Marty Schottenheimer come to mind and I think the same is true for Welker and Moss. Jules made the impossible. Welker did not.

Why do people insist on repeating this sort of nonsense?

With all the chat around 3rd downs this season, thought it would be fun to look at what receivers stood out in the postseason for 3rd down completions only:-

JE - 23/34 (67.6%)
DA - 10/17 (58.8%)
RG - 14/26 (53.8%)
WW - 9/21 (42.9%)

Per Pro Football Reference, Edelman’s 3rd down completion rate of 67.6% is the highest for a receiver with a minimum of 20 targets since their records began in 1994.

I’ve binge watched the last few NFL seasons, but haven’t really seen any older stuff to be able to comment on who the ‘best’ receivers etc were - but I’d definitely make sure Edelman was on the team for 3rd down completions alone

For those interested, Russell Wilson was listed as best on 3rd down completions for a Passer (49.5%) and Steve McNair (76%) for rushing. Apologies for not being savvy enough to link the relevant tweet...

I'd like to call attention to a fun exercise that's been started over on Reddit at r/Patriots,

Ultimate Patriots Super Bowl Roster

Go and vote for your all-time roster. Fun debate to be had.

I felt like it's particularly hard to only select 3 LB and 3 WR because it forces you to leave off some pretty incredible performers.

My Roster: (1st alternative in parenthesis)

Backup QB: Garoppolo
RB: Dillon & White (Lewis)
WR: Moss, Edelman, Branch (Welker)
TE: Gronk
OL: Solder, Mankins, Koppen, Mason, Cannon (Light)

DL: Seymour, Flowers, Wilfork, Ninkovich, (Branch)
LB: McGinest, Hightower, Vrabel (Bruschi/Mayo)
CB: Law, Gilmore (Butler)
S: McCourty, Harrison (Milloy/Harmon)

K: Gostkowski

I didn't read all 4 pages so apologies if someone already said.
- Would list Drew Bledsoe as the best backup QB :)
- Malcolm Butler is a better corner than Gilmore (and a 2time Super Bowl winner for us) so would list him instead of Gilmore. Butler or Asante Samuel

I too would definitely go with a 3/4 D

Brady (Garoppolo, can't see Bledsoe running this offense)
Dillon, Faulk (there's nothing Lewis or White do that Faulk didn't do even better)
Light, Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Vollmer
Gronkowski (Watson, blocking matters I've got other guys that can catch)
Moss, Edelman, Branch, Brown (toughest

Seymour, Wilfork, Warren (easiest other than QB))
Vrabel, Bruschi, Mayo, McGinest (Johnson & Hightower were tough cuts)
Law, Samuels (surprisingly this was tougher to pick than LB's)
Harrison, McCourty (sorry Milloy, no I in team)

Gostkowski (love Adamatic Vinamoney but MUCH better kickoffs from Gost)
Mesko (coin flip with due apologies to Allen)

I think we do this from time to time, but I'll play.

53 players, starters indicated with *

Offense (25)
QB: Brady*, Bledsoe
RB: Dillon*, White, Lewis, Faulk, Develin
WR: Moss*, Edelman*, Brown*, Branch, Welker, Cooks, Slater
TE: Gronkowski*, Watson, Bennett
T: Solder*, Cannon*, Light
G: Neal*, Mason*, Mankins
C: Koppen*, Andrews

Defense (24)
DE: Seymour*, Chandler Jones*, Warren, Ninkovich
DT: Wilfork*, Washington*, Branch, Brown
LB: McGinest*, Hightower*, Vrabel*, Bruschi, Mayo
CB: Law*, Samuel*, Revis, Gilmore, Butler, Hobbs
S: McCourty*, Harrison*, Chung, Milloy, Harmon

Specialists (3)
K: Vinatieri*
P: Allen*
LS: Paxton*
KR: Hobbs
PR: Edelman
Gunner: Slater

So I'm coming out with this offensive lineup:

Moss

Gronk
Cannon
Mason
Koppen Brady Dillon
Neal
Solder

Brown

Edelman

Good luck stopping that.

my observations:

we rate the first dynasty Oline better than the recent Oline...i think maybe were seeing those w/ some rose colored lenses

I'd like to see the argument that Light is better than Solder...i don't think it's strong at all, same thing for Koppen over andrews

seems the biggest consensus is: devin and Harrison were clearly our best safety pair

QB - Jimmy Garoppolo
RB - Dion Lewis, Kevin Faulk
WR - Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Troy Brown
TE - Rob Gronkowski
OL - Matt Light, Logan Maknins, Dan Koppen, Steven Neil, Sebastian Vollmer
DL - Vince Wilfork, Richard Seeymour, Ty Warren, Rob Ninkovich
LB - Donte Hightower, Mike Vrabel, Tedy Bruschi
CB - Ty Law, Malcolm Butler
S - Rodney Harrison, Devin McCourty

If you're using that criteria, Gronk isn't on the team.

Name another TE who has had a superior SB performance than Gronk?

I'm just bitter because he's always hurt for the SBs, even when he plays.

Graham had a pretty good on, iirc.

I hear you.

He plays to his ability in SB46 they win. Period.

He was pretty banged up going into SB49 but had a very good game nonetheless.

Aside from the concussion he says hes never felt better at the end of a season. Good vibes there....

Graham had a pretty good on, iirc.

Agree with that said not much to choose from.

36- Wiggy...good hands but nowhere close to Gronk
38 & 39- Danny Graham/ Fauria. IMOas a blocker Danny was just as good as Gronk.
46- Hurt Gronk and The Murderer
49- Gronk
51- Marty had a very good SB.

So after Gronk I guess I have to take Marty. Then Danny.
