Next thing you know, the rule will change so that, if the game is still tied after each team has one possession in OT, then each team will select five different players to attempt FG's with the ball spotted at the 15 yard line.

How many of those were first-drive walkoffs? As has been previously pointed out, if KC was given a chance and scored a tying TD, we're right back where we started, except now a FG wins, which everybody hated. Play defense or lose.

Anyway, I think the OT rules are fine. HOWEVER, I'd like to see a two-minute time limit per possession. And no timeouts whatsoever. Just for funsies.

ooh, interesting twist. Of course the 'ground and pound' teams would be opposed, but it definitely would add some flare. After all, we're getting more ties these days because with 10 minutes in OT there may only be 3 possessions total (not each).

The Pats lost all of the coin tosses at the beginning of each playoff game but the other team deferred and allowed the Pats to march down the field. The only time they didn't score was in the SB due to the Brady pick.

They did win the coin toss for the OT in the AFCCG though.

There were two conference championship OT games this year between teams with potent offenses, and one winning coin flip team won and one team lost. It doesn't get any more fair than that.

For the record, under the current rules, the results of having first possession are not significantly different from 50-50. [There have been 118 OT games since the rule switch: the team going first has won 59, the team going second 52; there have been 7 ties.]

If they want to change the rules a bit I'm okay with it. But we can't have this endless back and forth of exchanging scores from the 25 yard like college does. We can't also allow games to go too long. No one wants a game and particularly a playoff game going 6 quarters. It just isn't safe.

I really like the idea of the teams deciding on who gets the ball first as opposed to a coin toss. That way there is no whining. I really like the yard bidding idea.

With both teams saying they will take the ball deeper and deeper in their end until one team allows the other to take it or the first team to offer to take it at their own one yard line gets it.
