Longer but good pod here . for those with Saturday ironing duties..

Dr.Chao
- suggesting it could be a Gronk game this time
- cold weather nuances
- doesn't think KC RG LTD coming from IR will help much
+ interesting anatomy re. last year's TB thumb injury ahead of afccg
(happened on new jet sweep they were installing for the game) reminding Pats were installing new plays this week as well.. interesting to see new wrinkles

Lombardi
- drafting w Walsh; “inventing“ trading down
- 20:00 on NE@KC
- BB will say “we cant win the game with ball flying over our head“
- running game is not going to beat them
- D: starts w calculated/coordinated pass rush, take Kelce away and go from there
- KC has to better defend/pack middle of the field - w extra defender
- on NE difficulty to stop the run from 11 personnel (KC predominant)
(L: NE nickel not best suited for 11 run; they are better vs 12 run bc they can play nickel with base style..) + biggest NE weakness covering the width of the field
- im sure all week they worked on nickel run fits and how they handle wide zone the way KC runs it (and PHI ran it)
- in the cold is harder to tackle - Pats practice tackling every Wed and Thu
- Hogan is schemer - needs scheme to make him open - NE not opening mid field w Gronk hinders Hogan on the outside (plus Tom is a better passer inside the numbers)
- pass rush: you want Mahomes to back up not step out of the pocket
- ST huge role + hidden yards (ST+penalties)

Sharp & Silva
- some stat contexts..
- Andy Reid 14-3 in re-matches in the season
- Mahomes not as dominant since w12
- KC after Hunt adversity
- Pats/TB better #'s since both byes over KC
- TB bad on the road this yr
- Most QBs played better in Arrowhead than other road games
- NE played 3rd easiest schedule vs pass offences
- KC worst in NFL vs 21 personnel run

I don't know if this has been posted already since I didn't read this thread. But on that miracle 4th down and 9 play or whatever against the ratbirds, Mahomes has a guy open the same way Dorsett got open for the TD last week where 2 defenders stay shallow. Mahomes holds on to the ball instead of throwing for the 1st down. Clearly Mahomes still can't see the field as well as people/media are making it out to be. That bodes well for us I think.

One thing to watch today are the pick routes . how they are executed . and refereed.

Here a nice intro video on design/defending the play and refereeing:

Id guess we see this one in the first Reid's drive..

btw - Slot defending did improve from last year . injuries to Bentley and Dawson prevented to fix it better..

JJ and Crossen are used at times in the slot but despide some speed and quickness they still struggle there quite a bit esp. on the crossing routes - so also J-Mac and JC are put in the mix there. Dawson was money in Florida exactly at this job (and also covering TEs) so its a pity we won't see him in this game (or will we?)

After 20 hours of watching NFL Network this week I am still waiting for a talking head to mention JC Jackson's name. Justin Houston not playing in their first meeting has been mentioned many times but JC deserves mentioning. I'm predicting 2 INT's for Jackson today.
