Adam Schefter: Patriots want minimum of 1st and 4th round picks for QB Jimmy Garoppolo

However If Fox Stays that bet is off and Barkley has been better

I don't know about that, the guy has thrown 8 picks in his last two games. As much promise as he had in college, starting at USC as a Freshman and all. He is not the answer IMO. But Chicago's OL is nothing to write home about either. 8 picks though....

All you people saying we can't get a 1st and 4th (or better) for JG are making at least two erroneous assumptions. First, that it isn't a fair deal, and second, that the majority of NFL GM's have more self-control/intelligence than the posters on this board.

I still think the landing place for Garappolo will be the landing place for McDaniels. And I think the most likely landing place for McDaniels is Chicago. Decent pieces in place on defense (which is below average but not terrible), long-term stable ownership who has stuck with coaches and GMs in the past, and a GM who grew up in New Orleans, a regime that the Belichick organization respects.

Chicago also doesn't have a QB. We know McDaniels wanted to bring in a guy familiar with his system last time (Cassel), which wound up upsetting Cutler. Now no one cares about Cutler's opinion. McDaniels would have to believe his best chance of success is with someone who's grown up in his offense for 3 years and had 6 very successful quarters as a starter (yes, very small sample of course).

I could see a trade of Garappolo and the Pats #1 (pick 32???) in exchange for Chicago's #1 (between 3 and 6) and Chicago's #2 (between 35 and 38) getting this done.

And it doesn't hurt that Jimmy G. is a Chicagoland native and played his college ball in Illinois, too. He'd be a great infusion of PR energy for a team that has been not only bad, but -- worse, from a business perspective -- boring.

Many seem to think Schefter is making stuff up but IMO he is the one "insider" at ESPN that is careful to have real sources who have facts. He practically sat on the sidelines for the whole deflategate saga, knowing that he was being fed pure horse crap. When he reported that JPP lost part of a finger using fireworks, JPP's people insisted it was a lie, and then he tweeted the damn DOCTOR'S NOTES!!

I bet the source isn't a Patriots person but somebody on a team that has had "feeler-level" trade talks with the Pats.

edit: what I mean is that when Schefty tweets something, believe it. He has not tweeted anything at all on JG, though. This is all KirkAndCallahan. Not so solid...

He isn't claiming to have a source he is saying he thinks the price starts at what philly got for Bradford.

OK, I've got it now. KirkAndCallahan is saying that Schefter is saying this. Looking over Adam's tweets, he's been silent on JG, so apparently KirkAndCallahan asked Schefter for his "best guess" and somehow that got morphed into "Adam Schefter says".

Yes that is my understanding.
They asked what the patriots can get and he (as is his typical type of response) said it would have to start at the 1 and 4 Bradford fetched.

How about Chicago's #1 and #2 and the Pats keep their own pick?

Yeah that would be great I could see them swapping 1st round picks and then Chicago straight up gives up its 2nd rounder for JG.

There is a million different scenarios that could happen.

I do know this they have to trade Jimmy G this off season if they want to get maximum in return for him.

Trent Dilfer's an idiot. He knows nothing.

Is Adam simply putting something out there for the mediots to gravitate to in order to distract bb with senseless questions and get him all worked up?

Seems like bb should be able to see right through this type garbage.

The speculation and the whispering have only begun. If the demand for a QB picks up and if two or three teams get into a bidding war (which is not so far flung, given the present level of QB talent on some teams) what do members of this forum think will be the price of JG?
Two first rounders?

********...if no one wants to give at least a first rounder for Jimmy, I would just keep him and let him play out his rookie deal.

And they may very well do just that.

Keep in mind that they can easily wait another 15 months before making a decision, and they could choose the tag/trade method at that time. As a matter of fact, that's what I'm personally expecting.

Tag and trade wouldn't work with him. No one would give up a high pick for an relative unknown with a 22m tag on him. Can you imagine JG as he signs that tender? Like winning the lottery.

They can get a 2nd for him or wait and get a 4th round comp pick. They're not going to resign him for big money to sit on a bench. And if he wants to play, he won't re-sign to sit on a bench.
