A Frustrating Observation On N'Keal Harry

That would require someone wanting him.
That's easy to find. The Rams took Sony Michel when this board and the chorus of mediots wanted him out of town pronto, now he's the lead back on the Rams and having a good season. The Panthers took Sam Darnold when there were years of footage showing he sucked. Tampa took Lenny Fournette when the Panthers thought he was hopeless and turned him into Playoff Lennie. Some times it's all about changing things up.

Like, thats what I said earlier

Both these guys were cut once it was clear they werent a fit.

Harry wasnt a fit from Pre-season, rookie year. This is 3 years later

HE ASKED TO BE TRADED! BAH

All I’ve got to say is Ben Watson in 2007 was a massive disappointment. With all the attention on Moss, Welker and Stallworth, he would’ve had favorable matchups with LB’s, but he was nowhere to be found. With his hyped up athletic ability, he should’ve owned the middle of the field. His infamous stone hands didn’t help.

Yep; I remember in particular the 2007 game in Bawlmore… Opening drive, Pats march down the field, but Watson drops a TD pass on 3rd/goal and Pats have to settle for a FG… Sure would’ve made beating them a helluva lot easier…

I wanted Bill to draft LB Karlos Dansby with the pick used to draft Watson; I then would’ve waited to see if he were still available in the 2nd round, and if he weren’t oh well…

Good for him. Took 4 years to become a hard nosed RB, probably learned it from watching Damien Harris. Good for him for having some self reflection. I don't wish him to fail, if he turned it around good for him! Still wasn't worth a 1st round pick. All those multiple years of bad Pats drafts created a dearth of talent that had to be filled recently by overspending/ overpaying in FA. Not great in a game with a hard resource cap.

I still can't get over this. He had 45 catches for 400 yards and demanded a trade lol. A fringe NFL player trying to call the shots.

He was/is a solid back. Everyone here blamed him for being a first-round selection when he turned out to be consistently good and then elevated his game when Harris came in and start pushing him. If Michel had been a 5th or 6th round pick, I'm guessing the perception of him would have been far different, and again, it's not his fault he got taken where he did. Fortunately, we got lucky and got Stevenson - and both backs stayed relatively healthy all season - so his departure didn't hurt us.

Personally, I think it's important that we remember we were picking #31 and given the drop off in talent from #1 to #31 I'd qualify it by saying 'late 1st round pick'.

My main point again is Harry could have been dumped easily. I didn't mean to trigger people about Michel.

Agree. I love the Harris/Stevenson Thunder and Thunder tandem. I actually don't mind Sony. It's the 1st round pick. If he was a 3rd rounder I'd be fine. Pre-Eliot Wolf the 1st round picks were so bad for so many years, this is what has me worried to get BB his next ring. Too many bust picks when you need 1st rounders to be reliable above-avg at their position types of players for a long time.

This doesn't excuse so many bust 1st round picks before Eliot Wolf showed up. Bottom of the 1st round is basically top of the 2nd, where there are a ton of good players at good value. It's not like this means they just pick bottom of the barrel.

Not to mention Bill trades more than anyone during the draft.

I would not call Sony Michel a bust for being a late 1st round or early 2nd round pick. It's not like we're the Giants picking Saquon Barkley second overall. Sony was a key piece on our 2018 Super Bowl team, he was leading rusher and scored the only TD in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, injuries limited him most of his time here. Now that he's healthy again, he's doing just fine for the Rams.

Best of luck to him. I truly wish him well. Seemed like a good guy, just not worth where he was taken. Still think the drafts from 2013-2019 wrecked the team (particularly the high pick misses) and we're trying to replenish the talent now because of it.

The New England Patriots are hardly a "wrecked" team. That is a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think?

Yeah I would just politely push back here, again if you basically force a guy with snaps (see: NKeal Harry, Wynn) then they're going to produce something. And that year they had Gronk, Develin, a great OLine, did you see the massive running holes being created in the playoffs. So before we credit Sony for doing something special, the value over replacement player, I think Blount or really any downhill RB would have been fine in the exact same situation without burning a 1st round pick for it.

Depends on how far back you're looking. Do you think they've been good since Halloween of 2019 ?

Dowling was a second rounder, and had a bunch of injuries which impacted his abilty. Maroney was a big part of the team getting to the SB in the 2007 season. Neither should be even in the conversation. It's Easley v. Harry.

I agree - Maroney is another guy who I felt got a bit of an unfair deal here. He and Michel are similar in that regard, but neither is worth the amount of criticism they received vs their contributions. Again, blame the team, not the player, for where they were taken.

That's a little unfair to give him all the credit. How did he get into that position? Brady and Gronk set that up. And the blocking allowed him to walk into the endzone.
