Miami fans are looking at this as a must-win game; they play at Buffalo the following Thursday.
The Dolphins open the week as 1½-point favorites.
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa had his worst day as a pro, and the Colts scored on every possession in this season-opening debacle.

The Dolphins looked like one of the NFL's worst teams on Sunday.

Nothing is decided after one week of an NFL season. Teams can have a bad game, and still have four months to rebound from it. We overreact because it's the only new data point we have after an offseason of anticipation.
But in the Miami Dolphins' case, Sunday didn't seem like a one-off. They just might be bad this season.
No team looked worse than the Dolphins in the first set of games on Sunday. The were absolutely outclassed by an Indianapolis Colts team that practically nobody is picking to make the playoffs. The Colts got an easy 33-8 win, shutting out the Dolphins until the final minutes and gaining 418 yards of offense against a thin Miami defense.
If the Dolphins looked that bad against the Colts, is it going to get much better?
Where do the Miami Dolphins go from here? It was a miserable week 1 performance by the Dolphins and things can spiral out of control quick

The Miami Dolphins next game is against the New England Patriots at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. They must win against the Patriots, and if they lose that game and start with two losses on the year, Mike McDaniel’s seat will almost certainly get extremely hot.
But if they win then they may still have a chance to do something this season and it is a short week as well as the Miami Dolphins will travel to Buffalo week three on Thursday Night Football to play the Bills in what will be a “legacy game” for Tua Tagovailoa who is coming off a two interception game and a lost fumble to the Colts so you know he wants to do well against the Patriots and Bills. That is how I feel about the Dolphins’ week two game being a must-win for the team.
Miami Dolphins lose in embarrassing fashion while dropping season-opener to Indianapolis Colts.

Tua Tagovailoa had a horrible day for the Dolphins — more on that later — but what made Tagovailoa’s struggles even more frustrating was the fact that former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was making Miami’s defense look like Swiss cheese all afternoon.
Jones finished the day with 22 completions on 29 attempts for 272 yards and a touchdown throw. He had a 115.9 passer rating. Honestly, Jones’ numbers were good, but they would have likely been even better had the game been a close one, as Indianapolis played a conservative game in the second-half after taking a 20-0 lead into halftime.
The Dolphins tried to cobble together a hodge-podge group of cornerbacks — signing veterans Jack Jones and Rasul Douglas late in training camp. Well, it was too-little, too-late for Miami and their total lack of urgency at the position may be the coup de grâce on the 2025 season if they continue to play like they played against the Colts for the rest of the year.
Mike McDaniel plays blame game following Dolphins 33-8 loss to Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

It is my belief that Mike McDaniel no longer wants to coach the Miami Dolphins.
A leader exhibits a strong sense of accountability. A leader demonstrates resilience in the face of adversity. A leader fosters a positive work environment for those around him.
A head coach in the National Football League is supposed to be a leader. A head coach in the National Football League is not supposed to swiftly and forcefully throw his players under the bus following an embarrassing loss — yet that is exactly what Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel did following his team’s 33-8 defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts during Week One of the 2025 NFL season.
McDaniel’s opening remarks while speaking with the media during his postgame press conference on Sunday exemplify why — in my opinion — Miami’s head coach would rather attempt to preserve his reputation in order to get another job in the NFL after he is inevitably canned as the Dolphins head-man-in-charge than take accountability for his part in the embarrassment encountered by his club following Sunday’s drubbing.
“I think there was a lot of preparation for Week One and I don’t think it looked it. What does that mean? It means that guys let Week One, and the bells and whistles of the season starting, get the best of them. My job is to prevent that.”
Shocking…
McDaniel continued, “I did my best. Not good enough.”
