Dang you Gonzo for teasing.

12 carries for 42 yards in the first half is not can’t run the ball.

Henderson and Stevenson carrying a COMBINED ZERO times in the second half is refuse to run the ball.
They took any worry of a run away from the defense so interacted by taking away the intermediate routes that worked when Maye was 14/20/150 in the first half.

14/20/150 with 12/42
leads to
16/26/139 when you run zero times for zero yards.
this showes how one dimensional the passing "attack" is

Xavier Howard former CB for the Dolphins who now plays for the Colts said on Monday the day after the week one game that if you take away Tua’s first read then panic mode sets in and that’s what the Colts focused on. Something to keep an eye on this Sunday.
Wow. There you have it! Why couldn't Bill have done this? Can the 2025 team pull this off? I think they can.

So will Gonzo go down in Pats lore like Ras-I ?
But, more concerning is Moses, Landry, Boutte, Elliss all getting banged up in week 1.
And White is sick? (although he was invisible vs Raiders, soooo....)

Offensive tackle Morgan Moses and edge defenders Keion White and Harold Landry III did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. Neither did cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who has been sidelined by a lingering hamstring injury since July.

Need to run the ball. What happened to being a run first team? Have to run it enough to get in a rhythm at least THEN call passes. Not that hard. Give the new kid the ball and see how he runs as our main back. Let ram and ag be the “change of pace” backs. They got the new kid for a reason didn’t they?

I'd suggest letting Maye gunsling it a bit is exactly what they don't want to do. Mayes OC is McD whose whole raison d'être is process over gun slinging. If Favre had played with Josh he would have lasted two years and then ended up career wise as something like Trevor Lawrence. Maye needs to learn to operate and THINK in Josh's system.
I play tennis and sometimes you need to play aggressive And unhinged to get more shots at winners or to force my opponent game plan to account for my aggression. If I play full defense , my opponents usually have an advantage against me .

So the same might apply across different sports. You can't completely go away from your natural game. The right balance is what separates winners from competitors . So hopefully maye finds the balance between slinging and control.

Huge caveat to this, if you pressure him!!
There’s zero chance he was hitting his first read all the games he shredded us. Our pass rush was so bad he had time to get thru his reads.
If we don’t pressure him Sunday, the results will be the same.
Good point, I’m confident they will be able to apply pressure on him.

My memory fades.

When did the patriots last have a successful run-first team.

You’re not kidding about it fading….good question though. When’s the last time we were “successful “?

Ahh yes, this alone justifies the "Left-Handed Mac Jones" nickname for Tua!

Speaking of MJ, will two different Alabama busts be starting on Sunday?

Josh always had this weird habit of wanting to play tricks on the defense like that fake tush push. Just play straight up football without the BS Brady isn't here and the team is light on talent.

That's why we need to run More trick plays: our lightness of talent will not allow us to play straight-up football and win consistently that way. Besides, I really liked that fake push to instead take advantage of our youth & speed with Henderson running wide behind Campbell & Wilson. Should've called plays like that more often, actually.

it's frustrating. But we didn't loose to the Raiders because of Davis & Austin. We lost because of literally every other position group. Safeties were bad, LB's were very bad, DL had some success, but not consistent in pass rush.

The #1 player on blast right now is Spillane. For all his hype, he was not quick enough in recognition, nor physical enough in the moment. I saw on replay - some very upsetting plays where he pulls up when approaching QB or ball carrier. This guy was supposed to be Bruschi. He better lay it out there on Sunday!

He was also beaten over the top at least a couple of times by his poor drops.

So far the dude's been, in the words of Thurston Howell III, all talk; no do.

Candidly? If the Pats can’t beat Miami right now, I have serious reservations that they are on the right track.

Not because I expect them to be even average, but because Miami is teetering on the”dumpster fire “ and even bad teams should beat a team like that.
