Mac was sacked once against Arizona... once. And it was on an all out blitz by the defense.
Almost the entire first half the offense went four wide with little TE blocking help, if there was a TE in there he was usually running a route. Go watch the highlights again.
On Mac's interception he held the ball 5 seconds before it was tipped as he threw. It was a five man blitz with Buddha Baker blitzing on the outside, but it was picked up pretty well. Mac had Thornton wide open running up the seam on the right side at the 3 second mark, he had Marcus Jones running a crossing route all alone just inside the sticks immediately after that... Mac was locked in on Bourne or Agholor (his outside WR) and never looked off him. That tipped interception was on Mac, he was a statue with multiple guys wide open.
The offensive line is the whipping boy for Mac's poor play and gets absolutely none of the leeway for "bad coaching," like the rest of the offense does. A large percentage of sacks Mac has taken this season have been the result of holding on too long and taking the sack rather than throwing an errant ball for a pick... something I'm sure his coaches drilled into his head after he returned from injury and after seeing Zappe play near flawlessly as a starter.
They started this season throwing the ball downfield... Mac led the entire NFL in interceptions... so they stopped.
He averaged over 8 yards per attempt in those first three games, since he returned from injury he's averaged 6.9 yards per attempt and only turned it over once before last week's game. Zappe averaged 9 yards per attempt in two starts and was sacked once per game.
Since Mac's return they've been trying to get him to play more like Zappe. Mac's playing better now, it's still not great. The defense really helped him out last week.
Did you read the quote by Trent Brown? He counsels Strange not to listen to the outside noise.
Fair enough.
But his public relations skills are almost as bad as his cut blocking. He is quoted as saying **** them, the fans.
Trent Brown left rookie Cole Strange with this powerful quote to live by in NFL
New England Patriots left tackle Trent Brown has been around long enough to know how to deal with the criticism that constantly comes his way. So the advice he could give a younger player like rookie offensive guard Cole Strange is invaluable. The two have worked…patriotswire.usatoday.com
Hey, TB, where do you think your salary comes from? Us, that’s who.
Without us you’re a jai alai player in Poughkeepsie.
**** us, Trent? Well **** you too, you ****ing slug.
That seals it: We now need TWO New Starting OTs for next season.
Your thumb is either too slow or you’re extraordinarily high.I used the stopwatch on my phone, it was not 5 seconds, it was 3.25 seconds.
You should check out the Draft Forum, BGC has a thread up on OT/PTP. From my rather unsophisticated vantage point, this year’s draft doesn’t have any standout prospects at OT but has plenty of guys that are superior athletes that could fit the bill really well in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. That would be great for the Pats who have both cap space and good draft capital as things stand now.
I’ve been thinking OT as the #1 priority from the start of the year once I saw Wynn’s performance coupled with Herron’s washout and yet another year of injuries to Cajuste. Wynn is certainly unlikely to stay unless as a LG (he needs to be on the left), meaning I’m with you on RT being the more immediate priority. Your idea about Strange to LT given how his measurables compare to Matt Light’s is definitely an interesting one but my concern is that Light had the benefit of Scarnechhia’s coaching which is obviously not the situation now.
My hope Is that they spend some money in free agency for a plug and play RT (and to upgrade at WR, DL, and ILB), draft an impact athlete regardless of position in Round 1 (even at QB ) then address OT and C in the mid rounds.
Not the most refined class. Mentioned this a week or so ago but seems to be a good year to spend a 2nd or 3rd unless you can get Wright. Our RT side would be solidified, talented and a cheeseburger away from 700 lbs 6'6 335 RT would make a lot of people happy including me.BaconGrundelCandy, we’ll be in the draft forum in February looking at your analysis of OTs in the upcoming draft. We are in a dire need to upgrade this position.

McDermott, is that the guy at RT? He’s a keeper. He played surprisingly well against Maxx Crosby and the Raiders.
And I think it’s him hustling to try to get to Chandler Jones on the TD int. For that, and that alone, keep him on the team for showing this effort.
What happened to Cajuste? He has his prime opportunity after 3 years of injuries and he's... injured???
People here talking about bringing McDermott back. Who's next? Marshall Newhouse?
Why is it wrong to be bring a 6 year veteran to camp as camp fodder, and possible injury protection? What happened to Cajuste? He has his prime opportunity after 3 years of injuries and he's... injured???

McDermott has been a turnstile. 10x worse than Cajuste and Wynn. If he takes on of the spaces next year, it's a wasteWhy is it wrong to be bring a 6 year veteran to camp as camp fodder, and possible injury protection?
The problem was NOT bringing guys like Herron and Cajuste into camp. The problem was moving Wynn to RT, and not having better competition for OL roster spots.
And yes, after Hines was injured, it was negligence to not bring in OL's or to trade for one.
