OL coaching

This is the part of Qb play that people just seem to not understand or dint want to understand.
QBs don’t “hold the ball too long”. There is no reason to. What happens is they are forced to hold the ball because no one is open.

When none are open, you scan the field, or scramble.
QBs are never “forced to hold the ball”.

They can throw it away. OOB beyond the LOS if they’re outside the pocket. Or into the ground at the feet of the closest receiver if not out of the pocket.

And that’s where they can hold the ball too long, as they scan the field or try to scramble when they should just throw it away and try again on the next play.

Parsing words.
I’m talking about forced to hold the ball until there is an open receiver, not forced to hold the ball and take a sack.
Forced to hold the ball in order to make a play and not throw it in the first 2 seconds.

Surely you aren’t recommending if the first read isn’t open and there is no pressure they should just throw it away.

Of course not. Just saying that by the time they finish running through their progressions the clock in their head should be alarming that scanning the field is a luxury for which there’s no time and they need to get the ball out of there either by scrambling or throwing it away.

Also realize that an intentional grounding penalty is not as bad as a strip sack fumble or a pick six.

I took “holding the ball” to imply the qb just chooses not to pull the trigger, which isn’t really a choice because it happens when receivers aren’t open.

Agree once progressions are spent, it’s time to get out of dodge, and hopefully find a receiver on the way to tuning for yards.

The next major steps will have to be next season where we need somebody we can count on for at least a few seasons at RT. Moses will be 35 next season, if he even wants to play beyond this one. Even Bruce Armstrong retired around that age (I sorta judge OL by his standard. He was the man as far as I was concerned).

Next year's Draft is very short on left tackles, but loaded at Right Tackle, especially at the top of the draft. If they want to fix it long term the opportunity will be staring them in the face.

Not sure I’d agree with a RT in the first round.

If the RT is the best man on the board I’m in
We have other need's
Building a dominant OL with a kid like Maye would be scary

I agree. A dominant OL would be invaluable.

I agree that there are other needs that need to be balanced with he future at RT is in need of future investment. Ideally they can find a good RT in round 3, or even 2 if the player they want is there. Save the first pick for LB if there is a good one available.

LB and Safety - need defense up the middle. Need OL too.

Absolutely
There are a few positions that could strengthen this team
A good LB (edge rusher), WR1, RT
Whichever one is best available
I will defer to Vrabel and Co. after this years draft

Could’ve just said post Scar was a disaster until Marrone.
Not quiet accurate, the offense and line were very good in 2021… at least until Mac fell off a cliff after week 13.

is it rational to be discussing Onwenu and his weight/readiness, and the other poster drag up a comment made 9 years ago on another forum, regarding a different player, different set of circumstances? perusing this forum today, that very same poster does such mostly every time he is challenged or proven wrong, which is almost every thread he participates in.
The discussion was Onwenu’s weight and whether beat reporters could accurately measure his weight based on eyesight after going half a year without seeing him.

Me referencing your eyeball weigh of Brady was very relevant. The entire notion is dumb. Mike Onwenu, even at his slimmed down weight of 350 pounds, is still the biggest guy on the team.

Also the suggestion he came to camp fat last year, passed his conditioning test on the first try, then played the most offensive snaps on the entire team for the year was doubly as dumb. Tom Curran can’t guess someone’s weight by looking at them…. just dumb.

Marcus Bryant agrees.
I think I'd be ok with a RT next year

You could be right
He held down the LT spot at Mizzou while Membou played on the Right side

Well I’m not handing the job to Bryant.
It should definitely be a spot we are active in draft and free agency, I just don’t think it’s a 1st round pick.
Bryant is as unknown as the guy you will take on day 3 next year.

We will see if Bryant gets some playing time this season.

Even if he doesn’t he’s not a total unknown. Coaches will have a lot of up close and personal observation of him in practice, and of his character and work ethic in the locker room.

I think it’s always good to bring in competition even at positions that look to be all set, for depth and to keep incumbents from getting complacent.

Just saying that we will have much bigger priorities elsewhere next year.

Learning about him doesn’t mean it’s any more likely that what they learn will be positive.

TE is another sneaky big need. I think HH has another year, maybe two of solid starter snaps in him but he is closer to the end then being a key piece going forward. TE also has the highest learning curve after QB so a year for a promising rookie to develop behind HH would be huge.
