2018 Draft Prospect Thread

PJ Hall (DT) at Sam Houston State is an intriguing prospect

Can anybody give some insight on Tim Settle (DT)?

He looks like a potential beast. Big, big guy, but he damn he can move.

I really like him, but he's got a long way to go. Huge and athletic, but right now he's not a premier run stuffer. He has struggled to show any consistency with technique, and he's never really had to two-gap. That said, he's shockingly explosive for a man that size. I like him as a complementary part of a rotation, but I'm not sure yet if he's a game changer on his own, like a Wilfork or prime Branch. He's a clear step down from Vea in this draft, but also a step up from Guy or Jean Francois. All told, he is still on my short list of draftable players (I will probably only have 50 - 100 total). Could be great value if he somehow makes it to 63.

EDIT: I can't believe I missed the opportunity to say that if we can't get Vea, then I'd Settle for Tim.

Thanks, Reamer.

That's was along the lines of what I was thinking.

Found my binkie.

Has about a round 2 grade on him right now.
Let’s go get our new Jamie Collins.

This guy is the best coverage linebacker in the draft. Sideline to sideline speed. He would be perfect in our system.

I'll preface this comment by saying that I like Jefferson, and he's welcome here, but I've seen several places assert that Jefferson is the best coverage player in the draft and I don't agree. I've watched every Texas game for the last two years, and I almost never see him moving backward. He's almost exclusively playing the run or blitzing. He doesn't have a single career interception, failed to record a pass breakup up this year, and only had two last year. Contrast that with his sacks and tackles for a loss, and you'll see he is used to attack the line of scrimmage.

In fact, despite searching for examples of his coverage, I only found a handful of zone drops, and no instances of man coverage. What am I missing?

Coverage guys I like at linebacker:

Uchenna Nwosu, Oren Burks, Darius Leonard, Leighton Vander Esch, Chris Worley, and Skai Moore (14 interceptions in college! unreal).

@reamer I think this is an area that needs a major upgrade, with the guys that you mentioned above, what round do you see them potentially coming off the board?

2nd - 3rd:

Darius Leonard
Leighton Vander Esch (Combine could push him into late round 1)
Uchenna Nwosu

4th - 6th:

Oren Burks
Chris Worley
Skai Moore

The biggest thing Jefferson has going for him, is his speed. I really like him been high on him all year, BUT I haven’t seen enough of his play for him to warrant his First Round hype. I can see him falling heavily in this draft. I have him as a 2-4 round.

If he’s there with our late second round pick yes, draft him. Other than that I don’t think the value is there.

I think the biggest sleeper in this draft by far from a LB perspective is Nick DeLuca. His injury history scares the life outta most teams but he’s worth a late pick for his talent. If he can manage to stay healthy he isn’t steal for anyone picking him after the 4th round. He has first round talent when healthy all day.

Another guy I’m working towards drafting is Harold Landry. This guy is scarily quick on his first step. Pure rusher. Reminds me a bit of Whitney Mercuriles of the Texans. I don’t think he’s going to be there at pick 31 but if he is I’d take him.

There’s lots of defensive talent this year I like.

There’s a few Offensive players I’ve started to look at personally..

Christian Kirk is my number 1 WR this year for a Patriot fit.’

I think the other thing to take into consideration about Jefferson is he didn’t always get the opportunity to play in coverage which doesn’t help matters.

I know he’s said before he felt he wasn’t being used correctly at times as well.

What about Jerome Baker?

Landry remainds me too much of Barkevius Mingo.

Hmm, its the lack of moves that does worry me the most..

That is what pro coaching is for, to teach these guys.

I like Landry because he is sudden. Very twitchy athlete. In my mind, his lack of upper body strength means he will suffer a lot of leg sprains and strains. Add in that he has near dead hands and you can see him struggling in the pros in his first year.

But the good news is that a pro strength and conditioning program will get his upper body strength where it needs to be and pro coaching will turn his hands into weapons.

I would be very happy with us taking him at 31.

I like Trey Quinn as a late round WR, really good hands...

I really like John Kelly from Tennessee as a Dion Lewis replacement!

No thanks I see Quinton Coples there
