NFL News Push coming to allow teams to trade picks 5 years in the future instead of 3

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
To stupid owners, getting the "name" at QB is more important than the rest of the team because it gets butts in seats. They have a "star QB" so people will pay to come watch him play and the media will pay attention to their team, even if the rest of the roster is dog ****.
I responded ugh because owners/GMs are dumb, not to your comment.

Not saying it will never happen, but I highly doubt you're going to see teams trade 5 picks for one player like y'all are describing. I think what you will see instead is just that teams build more than they already are even for "windows". You see it more and more with the void years and backloaded deals that kick the can down the road cap wise. It's such an arms race at the top of the league that if you want to be the last team standing you often times have to go "all in" or close to it otherwise there will be a handful of teams better than you. It's hard to compete with a (competent) team that's borrowing resources (cap space) from the future if you aren't. It's like you're fighting with a hand tied behind your back if you aren't also using those future resources.

So I think what will happen with this is once you see you have a core in place, teams can now be more aggressive trading for the win now pieces to complete it for their short window that they want to push their chips in for.

maybe instead of giving up 5 picks for one guy, what you might see is
Team trades multiple firsts/seconds for Player A
Trades future picks (years 4/5) for Player B (because they already used the near-future picks for Player A)

eh, i don't really care ... don't think they will let this fly... and lets be honest, there is no way the owners should want to do this... At some point some of them need to be protected from self harm because they don't have any impulse control... can't say "no" to a prospective trade if they feel the guy will "put them over the top" ...

It's irrelevant because we already have our franchise QB. This will happen with teams chasing their franchise QB and trying to outbid each other for the 1st overall pick annually.
Probably so, which means that the desert of futility to which such teams remand themselves will be extended even beyond the usual three years or so. I'd like to think that even if we did not have our QB we would not be foolish enough to spend three or four 1st round pick in exchange for some 21-yeqr-old who might or might not work out. I could be wrong, of course. This is after all the team which put its fate in the hands of Jerrod Mayo, so strange things do happen.
