I thought about this after the Henry signing and now they are talking about this on 98.5. Now that the Pats have restocked the cupboards and added four receiving weapons for a QB, do the Pats get really aggressive and package 3 first rounders and some other good picks in hopes to trade for Watson or Wilson? It will take a lot of draft capital especially since they don't have a top 5 or top 10 pick this year like some of the other teams trying to get one of those guys.

It is probably a pipe dream that anyone trades for Watson or Wilson, but now the Pats are really just a franchise QB away from being a Super Bowl contender for the next two to three years at least. Do they mortgage the future to get that QB? The Pats would have to give up a lot to get one of them for sure.

That has to be the plan for one of the remaining four. Sounds like they love Trey Lance.

The way they're going, it does seem like that #15 pick will be used towards a QB, either by drafting him there, trading up from there to draft someone higher, or trading it away for one of the top vets. Not sure it would be Watson or Wilson in that case, maybe Jimmy? Either way, if it's not one of those three, they're better off drafting someone. No one else who's been rumored via trade is worth #15 IMO.

If they trade the 15th pick for Jimmy, they better be getting a lot more back. Garoppolo is probably worth a late second or early third at most.

Watson or Wilson > Jimmy > Trade up for rookie QB

I think the above is the plan. First two are a pipe dream, but it's hard not to get excited after the last 24 hours. How could Watson/Wilson not want to play for Bill after all these signings?

I probably agree, but I'm at least lumping him in that category of "guys you know can get you to the Super Bowl". 15 is an overpay, but it's also worth it if he brings you a championship. I guess I would rather give up the 15 this year for Jimmy than the 15 plus two more future firsts for Watson or Wilson. But if he can be had for their 2nd plus another late rounder, and you can then draft a great LB or DL at 15, even better.

In other circumstances, I’d agree with that but the 9ers aren’t budging right now and I think the 15th pick would move them off their spot. With the amount of weapons you added, you need a good QB so they don’t waste away. There’s no way you should be having a bridge year at QB with the talent you’ve added.

I think the probability on JG ending up here has decreased after this spending spree. Unless he gets released or they can rip that contract up.

It doesn't seem like something you'd do if you will also pay way over 20M for a QB.

I don’t think they are going to have enough money left for those guys.

I’m guessing a trade up in the draft. Lance would make sense in that his running will fit this new power offense and is a similar style to Cam. He’s inexperienced so it would benefit him by learning behind Cam for a year or until he surpasses him.

They’d have to give up a lot draft capital, maybe a future first and this year’s #15 pick plus perhaps more. But then they’ll have their QB on a rookie contract on a loaded team.

Who is reporting this?

The may like him but these are all win-now moves.

Ignoring that every year is a win now season for BB, I don't really see the acquisitions as win now moves. Just upgrades... except in our case pretty substantial ones.

Win now kinda implies to me that you are leveraging the future with some contracts that have voidable years and all those shenanigans.

I'm implying they are spending a **** ton of money on free agents and have no intention of building for 2022.
