Holy F*****K!!!!!! They actually selected Mayo? Unreal, and I give all the Mayo fans credit, I just didn't expect them to take Mayo at 7th overall, and I wasn't sure about him for their system, but if BB's willing to take Mayo at 10th overall, then he must have been impressed.

Of course they were impressed. And someone I know has sounded like a broken record saying that BB does not adhere to consensus rankings. And I may have to repeat this again. He drafted a player who fits at a priority need position.

Mayo actually is a safer pick than Gholston because he's played LB before. No one knows how Gholston will do standing up. At least Mayo has shown he can play LB. In fact he is athletic enough to play outside or inside, but his blitzing skills are suspect.

Overall, I think Mayo will be the pass covering ILB BB has been waiting for. God knows Eric Alexander has not been stepping up. They were using Seau on 3rd downs covering guys like LT.

It is possible that they liked both Mayo AND Rivers and knew one of them would be there at 10. Shefter did report (at time of trade with NO) that the 2 players Pats had targeted were/will be on the board @ 10. Regardless, I was hoping for Mayo all along.

Last year my hopes were for either Beason or Merriwether. I've been pretty happy for quite a few years now.

Mayock has been spot on all day. Predicted the run on corners would begin with Buffalo.

Albert is the highest rated player left on his board, but he predicts Clady to Denver.

He says Mayo was the most underrated player in the draft. I just hope there are some corners and/or OL left when we draft at the end of the day...and tomorrow.

Not the pick I was looking for, but I think he was a legit 15-20 player. So I can see the Pats taking him here. My concern is well... how good is Mayo. He is a little bit short and light, Hopefully he can put on 10 more lbs and keep the speed.

Not what I foresaw them taking here either......most mocks don't have him going until 32 at best.....but more likely into the second round.........but.....BB/Pioli know best...welcome Jerod Mayo...........I am going to start the coined expression "you want Mayo with that?" After a QB gets sacked on his ***** by Mayo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mayo an over achiever?

I'm torn...

I absolutely hate this pick at 10. On the other hand, I trust Belioli.

mind boggling pick by carolina

Mayock is either the smartest SOB in the football media or the most well connected or both. Just predicted either Stewart or Albert to Carolina - said the better pick for them would be Stewart, and that's who they took.

McShea and his mentor are not in this guys league.

Stewart is a beast and I'd like to see him do well since he is from around my parts. I'm glad he didn't fall to the suckhawks.

Anyone else think the Patriots will package some of their picks to move up? I still want two of Cason, Groves, and Avril. They could trade up to the top of the second round, or to the bottom of the first, and it wouldn't hurt them all that much, since they currently have three third round picks, and the 62nd pick in the second round.

Incidentally, if they don't trade up, the Patriots could make a killing in the third round, since a number of players who would be good fits for the team are projected as still being available for those picks.

I like this pick for the Patriots here.

I'm just a little bit concerned about Tenn. players and their outlaw reputation. In fact, Mayo isn't an angel himself. He's been in trouble before. Normally I'd say you get a couple chances to screw up, but at Tenn. it's unusual if you haven' assaulted someone or carried a gun illegally or sold drugs, etc. I'm sure Belichick did his due diligence and believes he can be a solid citizen like the rest of the team.

Bill is on NFLN. Mayo physical, played all 3 LB positions, can play on 4th down kicking game as well, good against the run. Talked to NO yesterday but consumated the trade 4-5 minutes into the clock. Tells Mooch his first role will be to learn the system...says he's a sharp kid though with some versatility and we will just have to see how it all comes together after he has some time in the system.

Tells Billick we have moved on from the SB.

I love Denver's pick. They will continue to blow on defense :D

Sorry Sebman. You hate me now for abandoning Groves and going Mayo.

As is usually the case with the Patriots, I think this draft is going to be about quality over quantity. Since roster spots are at a premium, I think the Patriots would rather take 4 guys in the 1st and 2nd round (and maybe early 3rd) than 8 in the entire draft, but that's just me. If the entire draft of this team consisted of Mayo, Cason, Groves, and Ray Rice, I'd be ecstatic.

These picks have all pretty much been easy to predict, and the Patriots were the only team to actually surprise me, which is unusual.
