Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

Doesn't look like we're gonna see many groupings with what we might term NE Patriot-type slot receivers again this year, unless Douglas is McD's secret weapon that's gonna be unleashed at Seattle...
It’s a huge misconception here that you need a wr3 that fits a mold. By definition any time you play 3 WR someone is in the slot. Every tesm
Now has a 3 WR base offense. Few teams relegate that to being a niche player who runs short routes and relies on shiftiness.

This is a take you want us all to accept that is entirely and completely untrue, especially in the system the Patriots run.

Phil McConkey with the Giants, Troy Brown, Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Jakobi Meyers and now Douglas/Chism with the Pats... we have four decades or more of the Ernhardt-Perkins system utilizing the slot position. But you want to tell us it's all in our imagination... sounds legit.

Next up, water isn't wet, the sky isn't blue, sand isn't coarse.

Vrabel ran Brown in the slot a lot when they were together

Variable ran Brown in the slot a lot when they were together
TE's and RB's are also used in the slot... that doesn't mean the slot WR position doesn't exist.

Just silly...

I want to keep 7 WRs and Boutte would be one of them.

But:
Douglas is running with the one's consistently.
Hollins and Williams are staying.
And I want to keep developing another young WR beyond Willams.

You disagree with some of this, maybe all, but there is evidence that Boutte is likely on the trading block. I'm not going to reopen that.

We'll just have to see.
Boutté offer so much more than Pop Douglas does though… A lot of times last year Pop Douglas disappeared… Boutte was arguably our number one if not, number two receiver last year. This year in camp he has looked great and the guy seems to be getting better every year… I could definitely see a trade, but it would have to be a decent return or another player that we really need… Otherwise I would love to see Boutté, Dobbs and Brown as our starting 3…..

I stopped after this.

Hollins played better than I thought he would last year; but that doesn't mean, however, that he should be treated as a sacred cow either.
Hollins was the only NE WR to start the Super Bowl.

Boutte would be a 1-year rental for a team - they would likely not extend him immediately. That absolutely negatively impacts his trade value. But he's also still on a cheap contract, so that increases his trade value some. He has requested a trade, and Patriots likely want to do right by him. A 3rd would be fantastic - dreams of more than that are unrealistic.
I think if they’re going to move him, which I get your point on the salary situation… A third would be a good return…

They're running Douglas currently as the starter in the slot.

Really it's Brown/Doubs then whatever attack the coaching staff decides.

By the makeup/performance of the team I say let's go Air McDaniels.

I have no intention of getting into a pissing contest about this and I respect most people's opinions, but I have yet to hear a compelling argument that having the redundancy that Booty brings makes us a better team than having a WR corp with a diversified skill set.

JMcD is a matchup game plan coordinator. Booty is a contested catch X who is good at the catch point and that's about it. So are AJB and Doubs and Hollins obviously has that element too.

As training camp is showing us, AJB and Doubs are building chemistry with Maye and will be the featured WR in this offense.

Hollins blocking is a key attribute to our run game and he plays special teams.

Pop is our best quick man beating WR who can get separation.

KW has explosive play potential and a speed element and reportedly has the best release package outside of AJB. Yes he's a work in progress but he's under a cheap contract for 3 more seasons.

We have a log jam and other teams know this and Booty is on the last year of deal. A 5 or conditional 4th is all we'll likely get, unfortunately.
you have put labels and tags on Hollins, Pop and Williams, yet Boutte outproduced all of them last season

  • Kyle Dixon: 25 years old
  • Nick DeGennaro: 25 years old
  • Efton Chism III: 24 years old
  • Kayshon Boutte: 24 years old
  • Kyle Williams: 22 years old

Vrabel replaced Boutte with Doubs; full stop.

Douglas outperformed Boutte the year prior… so what.

The team went out of their way to replace Boutte. They’ve already told you what they think and where they thought they needed to improve.

The Pats have a variety of options.

Douglas stays and is the future assuming that he can produce more. Hollins is basically near the end. NE is shopping WR in the 2027 draft IMO.

And, NE stepped up with serious money.

Approximately 2 weeks later, Boutte asked for a trade. I would have preferred to pay Boutte and let this play out, but there is a reason why the Pats did not wait for Boutte. I just dont see Boutte staying on the team and being happy. I believe that # of Targets will be a point of contention and friction.

Brown, Doubs, Hollins (on a 1-year contract), Williams, Douglas, Chism/DeGennaro/Dorner.

If Hollins and Douglas are re-signed, I don't think that we'll be looking at WR's until Day 3. Other than QB, this is now our strongest unit on Offense.

We badly need to draft inside and outside LB help, plus a couple of more OL's. I don't expect to see Moses or van Roten back. Of course, this is after extending or replacing Onwenu in free agency.

And his roster spot is needed elsewhere…
