I think I posted this in the watch list thread but I'll put it here too.
What I like in those clips is that even when beaten, he's astute at watching the receivers body language and still making a play on the ball.
If the draft was tomorrow, I'd put a fair bit of money on Hampton being our pick. Slots right into the Carlton role and a cornerback probably gets the edge over linebacker purely on a value basis.
That doesn't mean I don't love Sammie brown or Chris Cole though.
Hampton has all of the athletic tools in the world to develop into a top 50 selection, but he was responsible for several frustrating coverage busts last season. He is still developing the mental side of the game, including his discipline and processing speed. His 2025 tape is disappointing considering his traits and ceiling. Hampton has a rare combination of size and speed but is a more fluid mover than other recent larger corners, like Devin Moore or Will Lee III.
He's borderline 1st-2nd for me. Man coverage needs to improve but he's 6-3, 200, looks to have long arms, runs a supposed 4.43 and is an excellent tackler and run defender. I do think he's more Carlton Davis than Gonzo though stylistically. Still, he's ticking a lot of boxes.James Foster currently has Hampton at #9 on his big board, ahead of Trevor Goosby, Jamari Johnson, David Stone, Will Echoles and Ellis Robinson.
That seems high to me. He may get there, but not just now. As Sam Teets noted yesterday (he has Hampron at 98, which is low IMO):
NFL Draft 2027: Summer Scouting June Top 200 Big Board
It's time for my first big board of the 2027 NFL Draft cyclesportstalk.substack.com
The draft is all about potential, and right now we are projecting potential. But 9 is too rich for me.
I presume you mean Kelley Jones. I'm looking forward to OJ Frederique too. A bit of a bully in style.I think more Carleton Davis than Gonzo is fine.
Right now Hampton, Demello Jones, Kelley Washington and Brice Pollack are my favorites as #2 CB options.
Who is Day 1? BPA? Position?Hoping to address #2 CB day 2.
BDPA.Who is Day 1? BPA? Position?
And probably Day 2BDPA.
Best defensive player available.
Yup. I'd be fine with defense in the first three rounds. TEs or Nick Marsh/Charlie Becker are my only real offensive exceptions. If we go OL in rounds 1 & 2, I'll throw something at the telly (unless they're truly exceptional - like Grey Zabel good). And probably Day 2
