Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
If they're picking in the top 10, in year 3 of Drake Maye, it's closer to 'blow it all up' time, because something went seriously, seriously wrong...

Both the 1975 And the 1995 Patriots say Hello.

June 1st or whatever, please hurry the fcku up. This is/was probably the most annoying trade scenario of all time..

Too late for Eliot The **** to re-negotiate the terms now because he already "gave his word" and he would rather look good than for his team to be as good as it can be.

Soon AJ Brown will be able to unleash his inner Patriots fan once again

Folks keep talking about "making room for AJ Brown's contract" but I don't think they realize it is not going to hit the books for much at all from a cap space perspective. Most of his deal is tied into annual option bonuses. Based on my napkin math here's what I'm expecting:

2026:
- $7M cap hit
2027:
- $11M cap hit
2028:
- $18M cap hit
2029:
- Cut or traded at age 32, $46M dead money charge

This is very affordable and not an issue until 3 years from now when he's gone, and is a one-year issue they can plan for. He is not going to be taking up cap space that needs to go to Gonzo or Maye. It's somewhat more expensive each year from a real cash perspective for ownership but that is a different conversation and not what I see most people talking about.

This is why I don't understand the reporting/comments that "the Patriots are bidding against themselves"

No other team would want AJ Brown for a 4th or even a 3rd with those cap numbers?

AJ Brown wouldn't play for any other team but New England?

I can't believe if the offer is low enough, that another team like KC wouldn't swoop in and grab him.

If the Pats have a bad enough year that they’re picking in the top 10, it would be disastrous to have traded away their 1st round pick.

Don’t try and sugar coat this.

Do you think they should make their decisions based upon worst case scenario, or on most likely scenario? Ir do you think they just shouldn't make deals with their high picks

Something else weird could happen, like Maye tears his ACL, Gonzo gets hurt, lots of other injuries. You can have a super team but if the best guys all get hurt then you just have an average to bad team again, and against a difficult schedule, that might mean not a lot of wins.

I recall Burrow got hurt and they ended up with a top 5 pick which they used on Chase, and then they ended up in the Super Bowl. Of course, they haven't been nearly as successful since then, so that might have been an early warning sign.

I don't think you can run a team by doomcasting. I think you make the decision based upon where you at as a franchise and what the real cost and benefits are. If they make the deal for Brown and it costs a first then they are most likely giving up a pick between 24-32, that would be a good prospect, but in return they get a player who will almost certainly make Maye and everyone around him better, as well as getting a. Very productive receiver.

And whomever it was that said they saw Philly fans talking about the huge haul they are going to get was definitely on the right track. This morning I saw a guy posing as a Yahoo sportswriter talking about how the Eagles don't need the deal with Bew England, they can trade Brown for Myles Garrett instead. Which is completely delusional, as town would never agree to go to Cleveland, and the Browns don't need him. And, as it turned, the guy is one of those turds who follows the Eagles and pretends on Yahoo to be some impartial analyst.

Isn't this the guy who keeps writing that there's no deal in place?

Bottom line, he makes the WR corps better and makes our overall offense better.

I was watching some season highlights from the Pat’s 2025 season, and several things really stood out to me. I know I’m being captain obvious, but man was Maye great last year, so many unbelievable throws and some great timely runs. And Diggs was really good, even if we get Brown, would still love to get Diggs back (I know, I’m greedy). I am excited about having Brown and Doubs, but imagine having a top 3 of Brown/Doubs/Diggs. That would be amazing.

I’m one of the few Boutte fans, but he was really good last year, I’d like to keep him, especially if Diggs isn’t in the plans. Brown/Doubs/Boutte/Douglas/Hollins is a nice top 5. If they keep 6, it’ll most likely be a battle of the UDFA receivers, Chism from 2025 and one of the UDFAs from 2026. Supposedly they paid Dixon a lot for an UDFA WR, so if he shows out in camp, he could make it as WR6.

I recall Breer saying a while back that something was coming back to the Pats with Brown if they gave up a 2028 1st. Maybe they are haggling over that.

I think AJ Brown could be a great boost to our offense obviously…..but a FIRST round pick (sounds like 2028) for a guy that is almost 30 and from many reports not that explosive speed guy he once was….still great but not as elite as he was right out of college which makes sense ….so is a first rounder too much….personally I think it is….and would feel much better giving up a 2nd or 2nd paired with a later pick etc…..have to see what Pats are going to do and see if anyone else jumps into going after him!

I am with you on that …..keep Boutte even if we get Brown….unless one of the new guys or Williams is really standing out in practice right now and you can move Boutte for at least a 3rd! He has been getting better every year!

I have seen anyone here say that.

True, but I would say that Boutte is heavily favored to have his knee(s) drained fewer times this season, and less likely to have knee complications.

If we can get this guy of the street instead of giving up an alleged 1st rounder for AJ, I’d seriously consider it. Should only take a few baskets of fruit, beetles & some grasshoppers; save the draft capital. One question though: What’s his 3-cone?..
