Patriots Player Departure Patriots trade Dugger too lol

I completely forgot that the Steelers signed Ja’Whaun Bentley earlier this season too. Apparently he was released a few weeks ago, after spending 3 weeks on their practice squad.
Maybe we can trade them Mike Onwenu next year. They seem to love our trash players sitting on their bench.

Comments:

-Wynn and Michel did help us in 2018 though.

===============

Now Anfernee Jennings is our longest tenured Patriot followed by Michael Onwenu.
Wynn missed the 2018 season.

Reunited with Peppers!

lol.

Hey they can do lines together while “allegedly” beating their girlfriends….too soon? “I know dugg never did that…). Sucks he had a “misdiagnosed” injury that definitely affected his play after. I had high hopes he would get back to being decent but these things happen. Hope he can get back to his original form.

Right. But he was a serviceable LT for a while before falling off a cliff when we moved him to RT.

Yeah that made no sense to me after they picked up his 5th-year option because I figured that was to start him at Left Tackle again and Trent Brown at Right Tackle again... Under different circumstances, I still feel that he could've been a pretty decent Left Guard for us, but we already had one there... oh wait...

Looking forward instead of back re: Dugger, it's good we freed up $4.2m in cap space this year and $4.7m next year. He wasn't contributing, and our draft picture is slightly improved with a mid-6th rounder (Pitt's) instead of a high 7th (originally was New Orleans 7th). The more that Pitt loses and NO wins this year, that spread between draft picks will look better.

The money should be in a new player's signing bonus in a few days.

But it wasn’t a salary dump because we ate a large chunk. You cant dump sunk costs
We traded him to get the salary cap dump NEXT year and the year after when it will benefit us. We have ton's of space THIS year, more than we can ever use. If it took eating space THIS year to do the deal, so what! Doesn't hurt us a bit. Doesn't affect any personnel decisions this year at all.

I don't understand why you are bothered by this or think it's the least bit important.

There is no advantage to taking the hit this year because this years cap carried over to next year.

We are weaker at S because of this move. I don’t want us to be weaker.

It remains to be seen if we are weaker. On paper it would appear to be so, but on the field we shall see. It's not like Duggar was lighting it up. I doubt they would have traded him if they didn't think they could do better or as least AS good

I’ve always held the belief that if you replace a guy with the guy who was behind him in the depth chart, you are weaker otherwise you would have been playing the other guy.
What that guy does with opportunity it TBD but on its face it looks like we are weaker.

The point isn’t what they think, it’s whether what they think is right.

Unless there is a trade acquisition, we are clearly weaker for now. It was time to move on and save the 2026 and 2027 cap money.

Some think that we're fine with Pettus, Saunders and Grant. I expect an addition, although that is by no means a sure thing.

We should be fine against the mighty ATL quarterbacks, so we still have a few days to make a deal and not have any negative effects.

They were both healthy scratches last week, to your point.

I don't know how much weaker you actually are if those guys weren't playing anyway.

Same thing happened to JC Jackson in LA. Very strange he was cleared from ankle surgery in the same amount of time Mac Jones had a sprain. It was supposed be "non invasive" and "correct something that he was born with". Watch the 2022 week 1 game against Miami. He was barely able to run and later tore his patellar tendon. He was a scapegoat for LA's failures.

Dugger blames the "misdiagnosed injury", but he's always been pretty limited in coverage and BB protected him by giving short responsibilities with lower snap counts.

Dugger was injured.

I guess we only have a 1-week team.

The team will be weaker than 2 and 3 weeks ago when Dugger played 100% percent of the reps.

If no backups are needed, there is no issue. If we need one to get reps, a weaker player will get reps.

Agreed, however that weaker player will also be younger and could theoretically be improving. Are the lumps we take by putting them on the field worth the long term potential?
