I'm all over paying Boutte, I very much want him here for the next 4 years. Having a young guy Maye trusts and has chemistry with is HUGE. The Brady Branch comparison is apt in that Branch wasn't the most talented guy on the field but shared a brain cell with Brady to the point they could run routes without saying a word. I just question how much of that 18 ypc average is Boutte being a deep threat, and how much is the ridiculous deep ball Maye throws? Like a lot of debates who cares they play together and get it done! If you can get Boutte to agree to a 10-12 mil deal I'm sprinting pen in hand, 14-15 I'm squinting my eyes and holding my nose but signing, and the 18-20 people can GTFO.

Yes you have to pay players and it's better to pay your own. The problem the Patriots had is they didn't even have home grown players the caliber of Boutte. Rham Dugger and Owenu were the best they had. Even those three just got paid cuz they had to and look at them now. Owenu is going to be cut in the off season, Dugger just got traded, and Rham would be benched tmrw if he wasn't our only big back making too much to be sitting RB option. Like I said you can't over pay only OK players it sets you back when you want to pay Elite guys.
Agreed here. Remember in 2023, 2024 money couldn't even guys to come here.. Remember the situation with ridley,,? D. HOPKINS? Ayuik? That was a strong conviction of where we were as a organization and thought as around the league for FA. The theme has totally changed now. Regardless how the season shakes out NE is now a destination again.

Properly rewarding players is always the way to do.. good faith contracts so to speak.. as I mentioned with a guy in Vrabel former player, former NFLPA representative he knows intimately how it's done. He said publicly he wants to get his players to second contracts. So happy for a guy like Marcus. I can see Boutte on a 3 yr. 24M deal or something like that.. 8M per..

So Paul and I are saying, sign him if possible, let him walk if needed (Paul please correct me if wrong or if I’m getting your name wrong). You are saying “be generous and reward him,” but you are offering about half as much money.

I think most posters are circling around the same point. Boutte is a has been superb. The question remains how much is his development and how much is Drake and Josh.

I personally would rather not find out. I would be excited to see a 4-5 yr contract at 12.5 - 15 mil per. Jakobi is getting 11 and seeking 15. I see him as a not unfair comparison.

Push comes to shove, I think there are “would be great to have them guys,” and “whatever it takes guys.” Drake and Gonzo are the second type. Boutte is more the former, as I see it, based on what we can see now. 20+ million a year would be an overpay.
I'd go back to 2023. He was playing as a rookie wer behind the ears week 1. He makes the catch and has his foot put of bounds.. gets benched and then plays sparingly the rest of the season. 2024 he and Drake become a instant connection.

Drakes first TD as a starter goes to Boutte. He makes difficult, contested catches and he's done this against teams top CBs.. including stingley an all pro.

Then training camp 2025.. reports were he may not make the team.. by camps and Boutte was outside of diggs the most consistent sure handed wr.

This season week 1 he goes off.. he can get behind defenses and has some great hands. Getting open and catching the ball will always permeate to a $$$ for a wr.

Boutte is likely a 3yr/ 24M type of guy.

I'm saying there's a way to reward a player for developing and putting in the work. Doesn't mean you have to commit all your cap space just to reward a player. 3y at 24M is a nice contract for K. Boutte... but hey I'm not an agent.

I know we will know where we are cap wise soon... but i'd like to know now.

We were going to save 8M cutting Dugger next year anyway. I know we had to eat a lot of his contract to trade him... but they are still eating some of it. But we are still saving more than if we just kept him and cut him next year. So that's a plus.

White doesn't matter much contract wise, but he would have cost about 2M on him as well.

Onwenu is a guy I'd be okay extending for the right price or cutting honestly. It will probably end with a cut cause he won't want to take a perceived massive pay cut here. Even though he won't get more anywhere else. So they will probably save 17.5M there... A fair amount of which may go to a new vet RG.

Also I am 100% on cutting Dobbs as the backup QB. Tommy is probably just as good. Dobbs isn't winning anything. That one pass is nice, but he kind of sucks over the course of a whole game and is a hospital ball waiting to happen.

Elliss will probably be cut next year. It just hasn't worked out. Thankfully the damage cap wise wasn't too bad.

Jennings is an easy cut or trade too. EZ 4M saved. I'd like to trade him... Unlike the other guys we traded he is actually decent.. Surprised no one has called about him as i'm sure Vrabel would move him.

As for roster adds. I notice no one has really mentioned the idea of using this chance now that White is gone to promote Swinson. Why not? I think it be worth getting him out there and taking a look after half season of work.

Agreed here on Dobbs. Tommy DeVito is absolutely a much better option at back up.. but nothing wrong with keeping Dobbs as a 3rd QB?

On Jennings his contract is as is Ellis are bottom of the roster numbers essentially.

I'm expecting a move to be made by the deadline for a player of impact.. Vrabel and Cowden made these moves with intentions.
