NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

Yup.

To me the idea of trading for Kevin Zeitler is subtraction by addition:

(i) It uses up draft capital
(ii) For a short term rental, not a long-term addition
(iii) Who is only marginally (at most) better in the short-term than the guy we currently have
(iv) Thus ******ing that player's development.

Of those, (iv) is by far the most important.

Imagine the following conversation:

Doug Marrone: "We need more young talent on the OL."

Mike Vrabel: "Agreed. We got you Will Campbell and Jared Wilson. Planning to add more in 2026. Coach them up."

Doug Marrone: "Awesome. Just one thing ... Wilson's having a few growing pains adjusting to LG. Can we bench him and trade for 35yo Kevin Zeitler?"

Would love to see the response to that one on Forged in Foxboro. I would imagine it would involve using a broom to perform a proctectomy.
WHAT!??? I disagree with this 1000 percent. This is professional football. Its a competitive sport. The idea is to do whats best for the football team. Anything that can make them better now. Adding competitive players to boost competition in the roster is what its all about.

Perhaps you'd be better off not following sports and spending more time in art galleries or something.

Agreed.....Would love to see Bryant develop into something but so far he's only played on special teams
Bryant has a bit of roadblock in front of him. To get OT snaps he has to beat out either Morgan Moses or Will Campbell.

I don’t think his failure to do so is grounds for pessimism about his development.

Logan Wilson anyone?

Logan Wilson anyone?
I have not watched much of Logan Wilson in the pros but in college his play from what I remember seems like it would be a redundancy with Spillane.

Someone that knows more about him please offer up some intel on his play.

Was he benched because he is a liability in coverage?
misses tackles?

Please tell.

Because we're competing for SB Championships against other NFL teams who may be 2% better than us. Anything that improves the team is a good viable move, especially if all it takes is a 7th round pick swap.
Who?

The 2025 Patriots?

You and I are in different headspaces then.

Going into the season, I felt the Pats were a playoff team. Now with how the season is currently going, this looks like 1996 and 2001 all over again. The only team that that would concern me is KC with their experience. Aside from that, the AFC is wide open. If we can get a veteran addition that would immediately help, they should do it. Brian Waters was a fantastic addition in 2011.

According to Pro football reference. He has a 14.6% missed tackle rate, has allowed 80% completions(20 of 25 tgts).

Take it FWIW. He is kinda redundant with Barmore and Williams. Not sure where he would fit in. Would love to have a player the caliber of Simmons, but I don't know why they would do this. If he was an edge rusher, I would be all in.

Who the **** needs EDGEs anyway??

All DTs baby!!! Williams-Simmons-Tonga-Barmore!!!! QBs in shambles!!!!

Put Barmore or Williams on one of the edges. See what happens.

Tbh I might be interested if Tonga wasn’t looking so damn good, but yeah. Simmons is excellent and is a big Vrabel guy, but you don’t have enough snaps for all of them so someone’s not getting many snaps and then Tonga gets no snaps. So sadly, pass.

Yeah we've got a draft choice who flashed during training camp, and last year would have been handed the starting right tackle position.

What's wrong with that as a backup?

It's actually the definition of what a contender wants for one of the backups.

I might be somewhat tempted to trade for Logan Wilson. He’d be better than Christian Elliss.

Really though they need edge and free safety help.

Exactly.
He's a 7th round pick and is the top backup option at RT.
That is good value with time and room to develop.

They have both played some on the edge this year so, not a bad idea. Personally I do not want to take Landry or Chaisson off the field on a semi regular basis for that particular experience

Barmore, Simmons and Tonga would be a great DT rotation. No DTs play 100%.

No-one plays DL 100%. Rotate Simmons, Barmore, and Tonga inside with Farmer and Durden occasionally. Rotate Landry, Chaisson, and Williams outside with White, Jennings, etc. occasionally.
