Lets not forget that we're facing a good coach, too. Not as good as some would believe, but far better than the likes we've been facing.

I wonder of we'll see less blitizing from our defense. Is this the game where we see if Milton and Barmore are worth their contracts? I can see the defense playing less aggressively (but hopefully not scared).

If we go that route, Gonzo and Davis are gonna be crucial in how this game goes I think. How long can they stick with their man?

If our defense can steadily guard each level of the field in this game, that bodes well for a unit still developing.

I'll allow a moral victory this week. Not expecting the Pats to win, but if they're competitive and keep it within a score or two, I'll be accepting of a loss. All aboard the hype train if they somehow pull off a W.
I just hope it's a close game; and we have the Football last with a chance to win it.

What makes Allen so unique is that at 250lbs he's the one QB in the league that even LB's don't want to face one on one in the open field, and NOT because they are afraid he'll avoid them. It's because he WON'T.

In Mapu and Dugger, we have 2 guys that are perfectly fit to be used as "spies" and have at least SOME size and tackling ability to slow Allen down and keep him contained.

Baremore and Williams are another advantage. Having the ability to pressure the middle on a consistent basis is huge, but it will only be effective IF they can contain him when he goes to escape. Being disciplined enough NOT to run by the QB and let him escape wide is critical. The really big plays happen when Allen can go wide and really stretch the D with his pass/run threat.

That being said, there will be times when you WANT to flush him out of the pocket quickly into the "trap". If you get him to out of the pocket to the side you want, you cut the amount of ground you have to defend in half. You push him into coverage you are ready for. You eliminate receivers you have to cover

Even in 2009 the Pats had 3 and outs. It may seem like it now but that offense isn't invincible. The Pats aren't opening the book the Bills today. They have been thinking about them and game planing for the offense since the staff was finalized. These last 4 weeks are just to deal with personel and adjustments

Every great offense gets a LOT of very smart defensive minds working on a plan to slow it down. The key is not to try and STOP IT./shut it down. I aint gonna happen. The key is to find what you need to do to slow it down. Keep their score UNDER 30.

That means having a decent run game that day so you keep their offense off the field where they cannot score. That means to eliminating most of the mental mistakes that cause penalties and long down and distance situations that take your offense OFF the field. It means GETTING that turnover or 2 that takes a possession away from their offense and adds one for yours. It means not adding possessions to the offense you want on the
sideline by picks or fumbles

What do they call it. Oh yeah, "Complimentary football" THAT is what is going to have to happen for us to shock football world and walk away from Buffalo with a road win this early in the season... and luck will NEED to be involved

This is my thought as well. I'm nervous about Kincaid against our LBs and wouldn't mind putting Davis on Kincaid in obvious pass situations. Gonzo on Shakir, Marcus on Coleman.
I don't want Ellis Hobbs on Plaxico...

sorry the size comparison gave me PTSD flashbacks

That was my response as well

Huh?
So you want our small slot CB to play on their biggest outside WR, and our best outside CB to play on their small slot WR???”

I can only assume Fan23 got a name wrong?

I don't see it anywhere on this thread, but prepare for a white out this Sunday. Apparently the bills want all their fans to wear white like it's Penn State football.

I’ve said this before, but the Bills coaching staff doesn’t mind being ran on. They invite it.

Sure, they don’t want to give up 10 ypc or something insane, but they purposefully give opposing offenses the run lanes and essentially play chicken with them to do it all game long.

What typically happens is that the opposing team ends up with a ton of rushing yards, but with the Bills offense scoring 30+ points each game, the opponent eventually has to abandon the run to keep up points wise (and have enough time).

When you have a top 3 offense, giving up the run can be to your advantage and the Bills do it masterfully.

“You want to run on us? Go right ahead.” - Bills coaching motto
That can backfire if their opponent is able to run effectively, and score at the end of their drives. They can pile up time of possession and keep Allen and the Bills offense off the field. Then it only takes one stop, or even just one extra drive if they’re in phase with the game clock, to pull off the victory.

It's not quickness that lets you find the zone holes, it's smarts, awareness. Pop just doesn't get it. He'll be better when he finds his way to KC's sandlot offense - just run around 'til Kermit finds you.

Exactly. The elite receivers just have this instinct, this ability, to sense where the holes in the defense are going to be before they open up. Just look at Diggs this past Sunday when he and Maye finally got on the same page.

Edelman was one of the best at this. These elite receivers just have great spatial awareness, eyes in the back of their heads as well.

One
Jeanty - 19 carries 38 yards 2 ypc
Achanae - 11/30/2.7
Warren - 18/47/2.6
Hubbard - 10/49/4.9

Pats run D has been excellent but so has James Cook

Week 1 - 13/44/3.4
Week 2 - 21/132/6.3
Week 3 - 19/108/5.7
Week 4 - 22/117/5.3

Will be the Pats toughest test yet. I wouldn't mind putting 8 in the box and daring Buffalo to beat us deep. Our high paid/drafted corners need to earn their keep.
A sneakily good move that may be able to make a huge difference is Dugger being inserted back into the starting Safety position. Dugger is an excellent Safety against the run.. this will allow Woodson to play more to his strengths in wich he did in college. This will help with the edges where cook likes to go.

I agree load the box to make sure cook doesn't get busy and gonzo, Davis, Jones cover guys up. On 3rd downs Allen looks for those TEs.

That snow ball is fake.

I still havent found where " Bills Mafia" is on these things.

The Pats really have been a true RB by committee.

Hendo - 26 Att @ 3.7 yac
Gibson - 19 Att @ 4.5 yac
Rham - 31 Att @ 4.0 yac
Maye - 24 Att @ 4.1 yac

Still, the NE run game basically ranks bottom 1/3 of the league with the exception of rush TDs.

17th per Attempt
25th in rush yards
24th in rush yards per attempt.
10th in rush TDs though

The NE pass game has really improved and carried the offense.

18th in pass attempts
7th in pass yards
9th in INTs.
9th in pass TDs
8th in net yards per attempt.

Pats aren't a dominating running team. They won't be able to really take advantage of the Bills poor run D.
They will need to throw to set up the run.

If Buffalo continues with that formula then it's advantages to us. The running game could really be effective. If Buffalo is letting us get 4,5 yards a carry that is a win. Drains the clock and keeps our D fresh and Allen stiff on the sidelines.
