Rookie Report
Not planning a full All-22 but reviewing the rookies is always interesting
Jared Wilson-Loved his game this week. After week 1 I thought he might end up benched. After week 2 I thought he was OK but would be great as the center. This week I thought he was the best lineman for them. Wilson and Campbell had 1 early stunt they did not work well on but after that they were great at those. Had a play or 2 in pass protection got walked back a little bit but nit picking. He was really, really good.
Will Campbell-Most of the game he was really good. Always a good run blocker and still showed that. 4th quarter he had a few struggles: getting beat once inside and a couple times around the edge. Solid game that was headed toward a very good rating that got knocked down to solid late in the game. FYI, Josh Simmons struggled a little bit this week vs a good Giants front. Still shocked how poor a run blocker Simmons is. He's fine enough in Pass Pro.
Tre Henderson-Much better on tape than I thought watching live. Solid chips, overall better pass blocking. The 1 play his guy got pressure was a PA, he went to the gap to block his man, the guy being blocked by the Center basically ran a stunt where he bumped into Tre a bit and Tre's guy looped around. Tre tried to recover but a little late to get there. I doubt that was a planned stunt, if it was, brilliant. Not sure I really blame him for the one pressure. In hindsight he ran hard and hit the right holes. A couple play it looked like he was almost ready to break thru for a big gain. There was one run play to the left he wasn't quite patient enough but overall, he got the yards that were there. Much better on tape this week and I think he'll break one here sooner rather than later. Gibson and him splitting snaps is fine while Rham goes to fumble rehab.
Craig Woodson-Having trouble sleeping? Watch tape of Woodson. Booooring. He was the deep safety more often this week. The few times he needed to 1 on 1 cover he was good. They did not run many of the down and outs he got beat on last week. The few I saw he was good on. He made some tackles. He's just a guy that's doing what he should, no less but also no more. Pair him with a playmaking safety and he'd be a nice fit.
I think those 4 have shown to be starter level and be heavy contributors and will stay that way, If those 4 are all you get then great draft! Add Ashby as long snapper you have 5 guaranteed contributors going forward and with Borregales probably/hopefully will make 6.
Kyle Williams-Made another catch this week with limited playing time. Need to see more plays. He looks quick, where Hollins looks slow. I will say Hollins is a very good run blocker for a WR. Would like to see more Kyle on pass plays.
Joshua Farmer-Also limited plays, made a good move to run stuff in the backfield on 1 play early on and then kind of did nothing. Nothing really bad but nothing good either.
Efton Chism-Drake Maye is begging for him to play per quotes below! HA! Release the Kraken!
He warmed up before this game like he was playing. Probably practicing that for when he does play because he is that detailed oriented! The legend of Efton Chism is just growing in my mind. Is it more fun this way or to actually see him play and maybe his legend stops growing? NAH! It'll just grow more! EF-TON CHIS-M!, EF-TON CHIS-M!
“He’s been awesome since the day he got here,” quarterback Drake Maye said on WEEI on Monday.
“I’ve caught him here late in the building numerous times,” he said. “Him watching extra tape and me just trying to teach him and show him through what I see and what I’m seeing from the quarterback and what he’s seeing.
“So he’s doing all the right things,” he added. “And I think it’s going to end up paying off. I think he’s got a bright future.”
