I think what's gotten lost about this team this season is it wasn't never really supposed to win anything. We all knew everything was new going in. Coaching, player's ect. If the organization decides to make a change at HC then it needs to be done right away and that new coach needs assurances that he can have at least 3 seasons. If not then we will be the pre- Josh Allen bills. I'm looking forward to the off season. I just feel like the pressure is on the krafts to improve this roster vastly. Out if 53 guys I can probably think of 8-10 who could start on another team.
You bring up an interesting point.

(There are other ways but) Let me paint 2 scenarios and let me know what you think will be more frustrating for the fans and which you think will be more successful next year and long term.

1) We clean house at the management level but similar to last year we hesitate to spend in year one of the new regime.

2) We run it back with the same coaches and front office but we spend like drunken sailors and are aggressive in the draft.

Fair enough. Acknowledging your position on Brock being a miss, your point on the all decade team strikes me as an indictment of the team in that era Let's hope the 2020 All Decade team has a better center.
The 80s was a pretty good decade, although with big peaks and cavernous valleys.
It’s more an indictment of the meaning of being on all decade team.
And the fact that if you draft a guy in round 1 and it takes him 6 years to start then he starts for a few years that’s not what you are looking for.

They could have used a first round pick who won’t start until 2030?
I didn't mean to enter the debate just making a joke. Pete would be our best lineman by far.

Mayo is probably very intelligent, he just doesn't seem to have common sense. Not taking the wind in OT was a mistake that rookie High School coaches don't make.
Yeah I’m sure he’s a smart guy. Doesn’t mean he can coach.

@Triumph I don’t see a point in bringing him back. We should have a coach who already knows how to coach. Not one that needs to take years as a hc to learn how to coach.

1) We won’t spend to the cap no matter what unless the guy we want to hire makes it a condition.
2) Spending the max but having wolf buy the groceries and mayo cook the meal would not result in success.

So let’s say they keep Mayo.

Fans aren’t happy with it and so many stop going. They have 20,000 empty seats every home game (maybe more).

Let’s say each of those fans that would’ve otherwise gone would have spent an average of $100 in parking, concessions, alcohol, and local shopping.

That’s $100 x 20,000 x 9 home games, or $18 million dollars, lost in one season.

This goes up even more if you consider lost income on secondary market ticket sales, or if even fewer fans go to the game.

This more than makes up for the sunk cost of Mayo’s deal and paying to bring in Vrabel, staff changes, etc. I’m sure they have analytics that show them this.
What about TV rights share. If the advertisements for patriots game plummet , will the share of advertising money drop off ?

Who says it was never supposed to win anything?
Do you honestly think that Kraft hired Mayo and Wolf and told then 2024 doesn’t matter?
We have 100,000,000
We won 4 games last year and lost at least 5 solely because of sub-nfl caliber QB play.
Bringing back the same team and getting a barely competent Qb translates to around .500
And we had 100,000,000 to improve the team with.

There is absolutely no chance the patriots set out to be the worst team in the NFL in 2024 and didn’t care whether they won.

Mayo deserves to be fired aside from the record. He has done a horrible job.

And no you don’t hire a coach guaranteeing him 3 years. You keep your job by performing. Any coach who has a probity with that isn’t one you want.
It is very simple. Kraft explains he hired the wrong guy for the wrong reasons tells the guy he wants to hire that earned this job unlike mayo. .shows his history of supporting coaches.

And yes, Wolf has to go immediately.

It doesn’t work that way. The advertisements are mostly national.

Maybe 29 year old Pete. 22 year old Pete wasn’t good.

Well let's see. Reiss mentioned today on his pre-game appearance that Ownership has given no assurance to Mayo of him being retained.

Boy!! Those are 2 very interesting scenarios there. I'm at a divide becuase I feel like we could clean house and allow the new regime to spend the money to get the level of talent here that we need to compete each week. What do you think??

Additional years are dependent on improvement.

Mayo is going to be back. Kraft will look like a fool firing Mayo now after the way he built him up as the next great Pats HC.
He’ll look like a bigger fool if he keeps him.

He was a fool for hiring him in the first place. His resume wasn’t close to what you want to see in a HC hire.

How does that support “they never were supposed to win anything”?

Don't read to much into my post. It's just my opinion.
I’m just curious about what your opinion is.
You say no one ever expected to win, I disagree and give my point of view that of course they were trying to win, and you respond with “mayos job isn’t safe”

You as, so do I have a right to an opinion. I said that based on the organization was starting anew with everyone and taking a QB.. so the thesis was about developing Drake and setting the foundation going forward. That was all .

So hold on to the cap space another year and run it back with the 32nd ranked roster???
I'll take a strong, experienced GM and a kick-ass HC to lay the foundation for sustained greatness over adding a bunch of talent with a ****ty coaching staff leading them and a GM who is drafting and spending on the wrong players.

I can deal with another **** year as long as we are making measurable progress.

I see.. I think what's at stake here is over the last 2 decades specifically ownership has built up alot of relationships with CBS,ect and others. If we go through another 3-14 season do fans stop for good? I'm open to change.. the next HC has to the the right guy or else we are no different than the other AFCE teams over the years. The next coach needs a 3 year guarantee at least. Bringing in a established ,innovative OC that can bring Drake to the next level. Also the GM is going to have to surround Drake with talent.
