Honestly going for 2 is always the right call if you are bad team.It took them 12 seconds and lot of luck to get that TD. They can't run the ball. They're also really bad inside the 5. Kicking the EP gave them the best chance to win. They couldn't take a TO to dial up a play since they were out of them. Going to overtime was the right call.
First, of all if you crunch the pure math there is a slight benefit to going for 2 over XP+OT(I think was maybe 1-2%). Don't forget you can miss the XP, especially nowadays.
Second, at this point the Patriots winning doesn't really matter. The Pats were 2-6, they pretty much would have to win out to make the playoffs. So its not worth fussing over minor win percentage differences
Third, playing in overtime increases the chances of injury. Injuries are the real loss.
