Interesting read:

BTW, this is a great site and one I recommend people add to their bookmarks. A lot of talent working there.

Any evaluation that ignores the top four picks on offense and prominently mentions Cole Strange without noting injury is a pretty surface take that is hard to take seriously. Especially saying the defense will be worse because it did not add anyone, without saying that it’s possible they may get full seasons out of Gonzalez and possibly Judson. I can buy a take that the Pats have a bottom ten roster but the worst roster in the NFL? It’s debatable.

- How is 9th best in points allowed league-average? Are there 17 teams in the NFL?
- A google search would have revealed they added free agents on defense and not “zero”.
- Peppers is “clearly aging” after looking better in year 2 with the team than year 1?

was surprised that Sam Monson is part of that site... wonder if it is an offshoot of PFF... read thru some of the articles... least they got it right when they ranked Brady 1/Gronk 1 when it came to QB/TE...

As for the analysis of the Pats roster, it seemed overly harsh in its assessment in comparison with some of the other teams... granted we don't have too many bright spots, but at least we kept them in here, as opposed to Carolina, who sent a player like Brian Burns packing for a return thats the equivalent of a bag of balls and a kicking tee... Thats who I would tag as the worst roster in the league at this point...

We have deficiencies, no doubt... but when the listed the defensive players, no mention of Keion White, who steadily showed improvement & an increased snap count over the year, was a blatant miss...

But still, it does illustrate how far we have to go... Coach Mayo has his work cut out for himself...

I’m not surprised Monson is part of the site, he’s as big a Pats hater as there is out there. He was one of the guys who claimed Brady was all done, and just a mediocre QB in 2014, and he cried like a little ***** when he got called out on it. He made up his own metric, most could have been interceptions as his data to support the claim. That’s like almost intercepted a pass, but didn’t. He’s a total douchebag.

Plus, the defense played fairly well over the last year without either Judson or Gonzalez. How does it get worse if both are back?

Might be a cool site but saying they have the worst roster is a horrid take that completely ignores injury and coaching dysfunction from last season.

They had a top tier defense last season despite missing their best overall player in Judon and two best young corners.

Offensively they addressed the biggest need by signing Brissett and drafting Maye. The Titans don’t even have a QB, not one, and the Titan’s defense was actually “middling.”

The Panthers will stink again and probably have the worst roster in the NFL.

If the roster was really the worst in the league the new front office would not have had reason to resign so many players from last years team. Sports media loves to write negative things about Boston sports teams because it is an automatic way to get clicks and attention.

Defensive statistics don't happen in a vacuum. When you have an offense that can't stay on the field, turns the ball over a lot and misses mid-to-long field goals, the defense is constantly playing too many minutes and starting far too often with its back to the wall.

The Pats were a much better team than they showed last year for reasons of coaching, injury, QB, and special teams.

By the way, it's only in hindsight that the dynasty team players are getting the credit they deserve. Year after year their rosters were considered sub-par throughout the run, with the possible exception of 2007.

The site must not have taken a look at the Panthers roster. I agree with you. The site clearly is going off the team last season, and not looking at all the factors you mentioned. If Drake is the guy, in wich I believe he is then this changes the whole argument. Week 1 can't come soon enough.

Agreed here. We led the league or close to is in time the defense was on the field Last season. They were out in terrible position and still held teams most times to FGs. They definitely were and, are a much better all around team than anyone is giving them credit for.

Definitely! Wolf knows how to evaluate talent. He saw the talent on this team and re-upped most guys. I never seen a town with reporters that just denigrates thier sports teams. We are some very lucky fans!

Simple. Drake works out this this teams a contender if not... then... well....

Architect and player caller of the "fairly well" playing defense of '23 are both gone.
Replaced by HC and DC who both have never called a play in the NFL.

This article is going to piss people off, but a 4-13 is going to have a really bad roster. With that said, the Cardinals and Panthers should’ve been ranked a lot higher with the Pats.

Peppers is only 5 months older than Dugger, but has 3 more playing years than him. I think that’s what the author was referring to.

And the author agrees with what I’ve said previously that the defense is going to take a dip with Bill gone saying “It's likely to get much worse than repeat its performance.” They really don’t have much talent on defense and that lack of talent is going to show up without Bill putting them in situations to not get exposed. Mayo is going to be overmatched when he faces the better teams this season.

The "fairly well" defense was being coached by the current HC, the current HC played in the defense, and has championship pedigree and also learned a wealth of knowledge under the architect.. the architect backed the current HC as his successor.. anyhow.. if Drake is the guy then all this BS ceases..

Let them talk... simply put if Drake balls out then they shove the article...

I don’t think he plays this year, unless there is an injury or Brisett plays so poorly (which I believe he will). The reason for this is that the offensive line is so questionable.
