Simple. Drake works out this this teams a contender if not... then... well....
I don't think we will contend....

Aaarrrggghhh a mosquito just stabbed me in the back with a ten inch carving knife... It's a cruel world... But I smashed that bastich...

Anyways... I look for brisket to start the season... Then Drake will get the starts in the back half... Not a plan for contention this year... Maybe next though...

Yes.. meaning in general... if Drake plays well.. with this defense we should become a contender.. it's all about Drake.. the haters are going to hate.. we've been hated on since the 01 championship.. I'm actually excited about the future of this team.

I don’t think he plays this year, unless there is an injury or Brisett plays so poorly (which I believe he will). The reason for this is that the offensive line is so questionable.
That's why I hold on to my proclamation that Drake will be starting. I know that he probably should sit.. but I believe he plays so well in camp that how can AVP not feel he's ready. Yeah the O line will have to come to fruition... this training camp is probably the most interesting one to me in years....

and has championship pedigree
You sure about that?

**One ring earned while on IR after week 6 of 2014

PS..."pedigree" is wrong choice of words unless you meant Mayo descends from a line of ancestral champions

Was he on the team in 2014? So by that logic we can disregard he was a multi time all pro and pro bowler.. ? injuries happen, part of the game. I think pedigree was the CORRECT choice. There's players with more accolades that don't even have a conference game appearance. Once you have won a championship your still part of the team. The pedigree what it takes as a team to get there.

This article is going to piss people off, but a 4-13 is going to have a really bad roster. With that said, the Cardinals and Panthers should’ve been ranked a lot higher with the Pats.

Peppers is only 5 months older than Dugger, but has 3 more playing years than him. I think that’s what the author was referring to.

And the author agrees with what I’ve said previously that the defense is going to take a dip with Bill gone saying “It's likely to get much worse than repeat its performance.” They really don’t have much talent on defense and that lack of talent is going to show up without Bill putting them in situations to not get exposed. Mayo is going to be overmatched when he faces the better teams this season.
I may have already replied can't remember... but anyways.. hard for me to see the defense taking a dip.. especially when mayo, covington, pelligrino & SB ran the defense.. it was reported Bill was leaning more towards the offense last season. You still have A dam good defensive coach in Mayo, one of the best CBs coaches if not the best CB coach in the NFL in pelligrino.. they have plenty of talent on defense.. Barmore, gonzo, judon, Jennings, peppers, j. Jones, Bentley, Tavai, Dugger.. this defense Is for real.

So, that confuses me.
Which is it?
You don't think he plays ..... or you do?
The plan is for him to sit because of how raw he is said to be and the OL is among the worst in the league.

But behind that OL and how immobile Brissett is, he'll probably end up injured at some point and force Maye onto the field. Nobody wants to see more of Bailey Zappe. In fact, I think fans will get impatient and chant for Maye by week 3 if Brissett is named the starter week 1.

Plus, the defense played fairly well over the last year without either Judson or Gonzalez. How does it get worse if both are back?
Yup, last team was #9. We brought back Judon, Gonzo and Marcus Jones from injuries

plus free agents Hawkins, Takitaki and Watts

I am hoping he does not play at all. I really think it will help him in the long run to sit, correct his mechanics, and just learn pro football...

I have tabbed us to win 2 games this season... I really think its going to be a tough year... you said it in a previous post losing BB will have an impact on the D... the loss of the institutional knowledge he had is really going to be felt while the coaching staff gains experience... with that said, I think the Panthers have to worst roster in the league... not sold on Bryce Young, and they really mirror the Patriots with a lack of talent... i just happen to think we outpace them in the defensive side of the ball, giving us a step up over them...

Week one Maye day.. 320 yards. 19-26.. 2 TDs..
Bengals were not great against the pass last year, I could see it.

If they are going to start the best QB week 1 it's Maye, won't be close.
At UNC the analysts for the football team said it took 1 quarter for all UNC fans to see Maye was the best QB they've ever had and that he was way better than Trubisky and Howell.
It'll probably take 1 practice in pads to see how much better he is than Jacoby.
It'd be a joke to say best guy starts and then start Brissett, we'll see if Mayo meant it.
We know by past evidence sitting does not help a prospect like Maye develop so what's the point of sitting him?

Interesting read:

BTW, this is a great site and one I recommend people add to their bookmarks. A lot of talent working there.

I would rank this roster 6th-worst, ahead of only the Panthers (worst), Commandos, Cardinals, Vagiants & Donkeys.

So he can be protected against what might become a season-long turnstile at LT.

Everything you said is on point and the absolute truth. I just have this gut feeling that maye -day will be the starter.. think of this.. he has rham and Gibson to lean on in the backfield... polk&baker out wide with Henry, KB, and pop underneath. KJ on come back and seam routes... a dam good defense to get the ball back to him.. the more opportunities the QB has to score the better.. week 1 is always a toss up.. I like our chances at Bengals!

They have three really good linemen if they bring Onwenu back inside to guard… which might be smart regardless, because at least you’d have a clean interior on the line.

Their QB’s are big tall guys, with a clean interior, the short game becomes possible. You can also blast open holes in the run game, especially if you run some zone and run a lot to keep defenses honest. Play action, scheme and help blockers can open up the deep ball. Scheme can make up for a slight weakness at tackle, but play calling will factor in here a lot.

This doesn’t mean Wallace, Okorafor, Anderson, Wheatley and Zuri can suck outright, they have to at least be competent, but they can patch together an offense now.

We’ll see, talent is only half the equation, execution is the other half. Too early to rank anything right now, ask me at the end of camp and preseason.

When our OT's become a competent unit, we will have the talent of a contender for the playoffs, needing only that the team learns the Offense and is on the same page, and of course avoids 2023's level of injuries.
