This roster is a 4-6 win team. Mayo is a first year HC without being known for really anything during his time in NE and has average assistant coaches. The X's and O's are going to take a massive hit without Bill around. And they have one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL.

Some Pats fans are going through that vicious cycle of thinking the team is better than they really are compared to the rest of the NFL. Many on here thought they were going to be a playoff team last offseason (for some weird reason), but were hit with the rude awakening of how bad they are.
The Xs and Os, roster construction all took a hit last few seasons.. is why we were 4-13 , Bill, Mac are no longer here.

geez, at those odds, might be worth throwing a few bucks on the pats. bills and dolphins are a little weaker, and the jets are depending on the aging nutbag rodgers. hmmmm
Could have made a few bucks in 2000, not sure what the odds were but they must have been high.

Agreed. Only a couple of things.

+ On DC. Continuity on the defensive coaching aspect as he was with the team Last 7 seasons coaching in the defense.

On game day preparation is a toss up because the last 2 seasons that preparation didn't fare well.
@pctronics0072

So you're saying you have more concerns on the defense than offense? Because last I checked 90% of the problem was QB. The defense is fine Mayo's already said he's running the same defense and even will be more aggressive. Really not much to not like.

So Keon White's accidental back-handed quip about BB, was really more of a telling revelation about a fear I've had lingering...
That Mayo will try too hard to be "authentic" as a players-coach, and he'll end up losing the necessary veil of separation between officer and enlisted, the thing that causes players to desire to gain approval from the man that won't grant it.
Almost every player hated BB at some point. Almost every player fought like hell for him and became a champion.

This "veil of separation" is not necessarily true. Vrabel is very much a player's coach, the opposite of BB, and players love playing for him and they play hard.

For me, what it's going to come down to is what Mayo does when the going gets rough. That's going to be the true test of leadership.

And I'm really hoping we don't throw Drake Maye to the wolves right off the bat.
...and instead throw Zappe. The more experience he gets, the better. We might even bumble our way into another dynasty.

And now that OB is thankfully gone, the team can be competitive.

One thing is for sure: As always, any wins - from 1 to 17 - will piss off everyone.

Right. But look what happened when they got a QB. Like maye, CJ was told he wasn't ready made he should sit behind Mills. CJ earned his Job in camp.. took his bumps early in the season and his team went to the divisional round and had the Ravens on the ropes.

I'd rather win, and have Drake developing that will do more for the overall success of the organization. Guys want to play with good QBs and winning teams. That formula worked for us for 19 seasons.
The Texans and Nick had two years to build the team before getting Stroud. I Want Maye to start some games this year and it sucks that the bye is so late. I don't want him behind a line that has not proven to be able to hold up. If by week 6-8 the line has shown some competency, then throw him out there.

Agreed. The Texans had a franchise QB in deshaun Watson.. we know that situation. They traded him, had Tom savage and drafted Davis mills. Mills wasn't bad as rookie. They had pieces around those guys. They choose to draft CJ at 2 to strengthen thier QB room. He was supposed to sit, was told he wasn't ready.. new HC, suspect O line.. no premium weapons...sound familiar?

I've said personally... if Drake shows to AVP in camp in a few weeks that he's right on Parr or maybe even better than Brissett. I don't see how mayo does not start him. The line isn't necessarily bad. We just have to solidify the tackle positions and I believe that will happen in camp. We have a great running game for Drake to lean on if he starts. Rham and Gibson will help Drake immensely.

So, you only need ONE guard?

No matter how good the OL looks in campa and the pre-season, I would not start Maye. MAYE isn't ready. Also, the new OL needs time to play together at their positions before real game competition.

If the OL is better than many think, the Maye might be able to start as soon as the OL is showing the ability to protect the QB. There is a certain comfort that comes from have no-turnover Brissette at QB for a few games. Let the new OL, WR's and even Hooper and Gibson develop a bit as a cohesive Offense under Brissett before sending in Maye.

Ok. I get that. But what if ?.. what if maye shows he's ready? What do you do then?

If Drake is ready to start Game One, I would start him as soon as the coaches thought that the OL was ready to protect him. If that was for Game One, then I'm fine. I just don't see both Maye and the OL being ready for Game One.

Of course, then we would have no reason to keep Zappe for even one game. Milton would just go into the season as the emergency #3 QB.

Agreed. I know that some people feel like Maye should sit. I'm open to anything. If he needs time we have Time. If he's ready then by all means let him play. This training camp is so important for so many reasons. I firmly believe the line will be solidified by camp. We have alot of guys we can play at the tackle and guard spots. May the best man win the job.

We have no idea about the line at this time. We know Strange is hurt, And we have Andrews and Mike O at center and RT.

I hope so, but one thing, as I've said now for years, which would give any team in the NFL a huge advantage, would be to simply commit to the run.

No one does this.

You see all through the season and especially in the playoffs, down and distance and game situations which demand that the ball be handed off. And instead the quarterback drops back to usually throw an incompletion, get sacked, stripsacked or picked.

Belichick bucked that trend for one (1) game due to extreme weather conditions, and won. And no one learned from it, including himself. It wasn't the weather. It was the strategy.

Your exactly correct! I believe this patriots offense will be far different. They will be zone scheme concepts. Where the back has room to work, the TE, WRs all are involved. Basically what the 49ers and Browns do. Drake will have 2 great RBs to help him along especially on the money down.

Agree. That's what I'm looking forward so much to exactly how this line comes together in camp. As fans we can speculate all day.. but camp will be when we can see this entire offense take shape.

2 "great" RB's isn't enough for a team that will depend heavily on the RB. Also, I wouldn't call wither Stevenson or Gibson a "great" running back. You speak as if they are all-pro's.

I think that we need to upgrade Harris and/or add another RB, at least for injury protection. I would expect that we would always have 3 RB's active. That being said, this isn't an issue. It should be easy to pick up a RB or two. We could even wait until the final cuts since we have our top two in place.

First off we have 3 backs that all have different skill sets. Rham is the early down bet the tackles, hit the hole, can block and catch out the back field. Gibson who I'm very high on as the most unheralded best off season pick up for us. He's 6"2 former WR, blocks, catches out the backfield, runs routes on the out in some formations is a mismatch nightmare for defensive coordinators. You need multiple backs in this offense don't want rham worn down. I don't think your giving enough respect to thier game.
Harris is your short yards, goal line type of back who is just a battering ram.
