Somewhat OT: Jakobi Meyers says he didn't feel respect playing here

In Meyer's career, he avgs 11.7 yds/recep. and 7.9 yds/tgt. Meyers avgs 58.8% FDs/recep. His catch% is 68.0
YBC/R = 8.3
YAC/R = 3.0
ADOT = 9.9
Drop% = 3.3
RAT = 95.3

In Boyd's career, he avgs 11.7 yds/recep. and 8.0 yds/tgt. Boyd avgs 58.9% FDs/recep. His catch% is 68.1
YBC/R = 7.0
YAC/R = 4.7
ADOT = 7.0
Drop% = 3.6
RAT = 93.1

Boyd is the best WR#3 I can think of and Meyers appears to be better except for YAC. There may be others out there better, but Boyd is considered a pretty good 3rd receiver.
Thank you for doing the research. I could hardly think of any teams with an explosive, productive third receiver. Or any that would be better than Meyers.

You should watch the interview. If you already did you clearly came away with a different take than most of us. He answered questions and was candid without taking a “woe is me” attitude. He was very well spoken and did not attack the Patriots, just spoke that the Pats came in lower than he wanted, moved on and is happier for it. F&M pressed him to kind of gloat about how much better it is or trash the organization which he did not take the bait.

Calling him a poor baby is an odd response for what he actually said.
@RobertWeathers probably had a ****ty round of golf this weekend. Lol

Bill wasn’t the one lying, it seems. They were fairly close. Don’t understand why the Pats weren’t willing to at a minimum match the Raiders’ offer.

I'm already sick of indoor golf. Might play down in RI this weekend with my daughter.

I love Jakobi and he came off fine. Playing the disrespect card just annoys me.
But he didn’t “play the card”. They asked him if he felt that way and he kinda indicated that was the case. Wasn’t like he is going to the media unprompted to moan about it. This is the first time he’s even acknowledged the situation and was still respectful.

He said he wasn't as respected here and he is in LV. He implied he needed to earn it every day here so that didn't make him feel respected? I also read into they didn't pay him his worth (which I have zero problem with).

How he measures respect is a debate.

The TvB debate is legitimate and exactly the kind of thing that many fans enjoy discussing. And it will be around forever.
Only you masochistic knuckleheads wanna dwell on it. It'll be around forever because you simply won't. move. on.

$10 mill/yr in Mass nets approximately $5.2 mill after taxes (Fed, State + Mass Millionaires tax, SS, Med)
$11 Mill/yr in Nevada nets approximately $6.7 mill after taxes (Fed, SS, Med)

Over the 3 year contract, Meyers keeps an extra $4.5 mill after taxes

Note: To net the equivalent after tax dollars of the $11 mill/yr Nevada contract, a Massachusetts contract needs to be $12.9 mill

If Meyers had been offered $11 mill/yr offer from NE and he signed, he would have foregone an extra $1 mill/yr in after tax savings compared to Nevada.
I didn't take that into account. Great point on how state tax really impacts overall salary.

Rich people especially really rich people can move their money around to avoid paying it.
There are some ways to hide money, but not that many. income tax is the only one that bites on the rich. The rest are negligible.

Why do you hate rich people?
I don't. I am one.

Trust me, being in the 1% is about as easy as it gets in the USA.

Having a top marginal bracket at around 500k is ridiculously low. Taxes are just a shrug -wish I didn't have to file quarterly, though.

I have zero problem with Meyers getting more money somewhere else. Pats tried to negotiate and they lost.
To me it has more to do with the replacement: JJSS (and to some degree Parker.) They didn’t put less emphasis on the position, they just evaluated the options and value in a comically bad way.

I was one of the ones that was ok with letting him go for JJSS, had no idea his knee was that %^*€d up though.

I’ve moved on from both players, neither one to me is what this team needs to get to the next level.

What reports were there that Bill wanted to keep him? Bill was the GM who told Bill no?
1 million dollar difference and the Patriots wouldn't budge. As the saying goes, "Penny-wise, pound-foolish." Meaning you might have scraped a penny worth of savings but you lost a lot more in the process. This just sounds dumb. Jakobi Meyers knew the Patriots offensive system and performed well in it. Why would you throw that away so easily over a 1 million dollar difference in demands from the player and the offer the team gave? SMH.

You say that but which teams? Not saying I’m for sure correct. But which ‘lots of’ teams have a #3 who, if necessary, can efficiently put up 70/800/8 TD with good hands and very good route running?

That’s not a PatsFans bias, that’s just calling it for what it is. Meyers is a good receiver, not great. Literally no one has suggested he is some elite talent but he’s pretty fricking good for a third receiver.

I agree with all of that. But Myers is not dynamic. Myers has great numbers and move the sticks. With TB12 Myers is great. Without him we need someone more dynamic that breaks a long passes once in awhile like Douglas.

You don't need an entire wide receiver room full of "explosive" receivers. You need an explosive receiver or two but you need a guy who gets open on 3rd and 5 and that is what Jakobi is. The guy has been remarkably consistent whether it is Cam Newton, Bailey Zappe, or Mac Jones throwing him the ball. Is Jakobi a number one guy? No of course not but he is one of the best 3rd options in the league and we let him walk over peanuts.

Myers is great. We can do better in a rebuild. JJSS was a mistake. I agreed with all of that, but we need someone more dynamic like Douglas. Sign 3 or 4 guys on defense using void years to allow us to resign our own guys (we will see if RK will open his wallet), and then we do not need to draft any guys on defense for 2 years. There are some great defense FAs, the offensive FAs are not so exciting - Trent Brown is the best Left Tackle for example. Draft 5 or 6 WRs over the next two years and we will not need Myers.

Look forward. Youse guys all look back and regret sh!t that does not matter. Myers does not matter. Let's figure out how to do better. Douglas in the 6th round is better. We can easily find 2 more guys over the 2024 and 2025 draft. Let's move forward with dynamic playmakers. Don't overvalue the past guys - Myers only had two offers, have you ever wondered why?

I was against letting Meyers walk. He was our most reliable receiver, worked his ass off and improved every season with different QBs and OCs. He's a flexible possesion receiver that can work from the outside or the slot. Good route runner.

Although it's true he's not a WR#1, he's an above average WR2/WR3. Unlike in NE, where he was the top receiver from 2020-22; he was WR#2 in Vegas on yards, targets, receptions, FDs, and tied DAdams in TDs with 8. He also had 2 rushing TDs and never fumbled the ball receiving or rushing.

I think he was misused here because of the failure to bring in a true WR#1, instead of relying on JE11, Agholor, and Parker, none of which were true WR#1s (at the time). He's a much better receiver than Bourne. If we let Meyers walk, we should let Bourne walk, especially after the ACL.

Bourne is not any special in 2024, his ACL will not be fully healed until 2025. Bourne is a 1 year prove it deal in 2024 and receiver 4/5.

Forget all the JJSS and Parker and Myers rubbish. Stop looking backwards. We can sign FAs on defense and have a top 5 D, and then draft all offense for two years. We found Douglas in the 6th round. We can find two of three more guys in the 2024 and 2025 draft.

Myers had two FA offers. 30 other teams did not even offer him a FA contract. You forgot to mention that.

I agree with all of that. But Myers is not dynamic. Myers has great numbers and move the sticks. With TB12 Myers is great. Without him we need someone more dynamic that breaks a long passes once in awhile like Douglas.
Again though, why does he need to be “dynamic” if he is a third guy and you have two playmakers? No one has a third receiver who would be better than Meyers. We already established that.

If you have a #1 & Douglas is a beast in the slot, Meyers would have been perfect for the second outside receiver. Productive, reliable, moves the chains. No other team has 3 dynamic super skilled receivers and we won’t either.

Not sure what your point is other than to say Meyers seemingly isn’t particularly good, just above average and apparently wouldn’t be a good #3 on a team. If that’s the case we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

In Meyer's career, he avgs 11.7 yds/recep. and 7.9 yds/tgt. Meyers avgs 58.8% FDs/recep. His catch% is 68.0
YBC/R = 8.3
YAC/R = 3.0
ADOT = 9.9
Drop% = 3.3
RAT = 95.3

In Boyd's career, he avgs 11.7 yds/recep. and 8.0 yds/tgt. Boyd avgs 58.9% FDs/recep. His catch% is 68.1
YBC/R = 7.0
YAC/R = 4.7
ADOT = 7.0
Drop% = 3.6
RAT = 93.1

Boyd is the best WR#3 I can think of and Meyers appears to be better except for YAC. There may be others out there better, but Boyd is considered a pretty good 3rd receiver.

That is why 30 teams did not offer Myers a FA contract? Watch the game. Look for someone who is dynamic. Not sure how to explan it further.

Productive, reliable, moves the chains. No other team has 3 dynamic super skilled receivers and we won’t either.

That is where we disagree. You are a pessimist. I am not. We have 14 draft picks in 2024 and 2025 and I believe we can find 2 or 3 more guys like Douglas. You do not agree. C'est la vie.
