I thought Edelman v Vinatieri was a microcosm of the issues older players face... maybe I didn't make the point succinctly enough? Overall a fair criticism i suppose, but i thought it was fairly illustrative of the point i was trying to make...

I don't think Kraft needs to step in to just "put guys in"... I like that the fans get to participate in the process...
Vinatieri lost simply because of recency bias. Edelman played a more important position, but Vinatieri had more iconic moments in big games and is the GOAT kicker. Really only Brady, Gronk and Hannah should be ahead of him in a clear cut situation. But Edelman is sort of Mr. Patriots and was the all in guy during the most recent part of the dynasty. But I can let that go, it's not the most important thing.

Parcells was way too controversial to win any sort of vote and objectively did enough damage to undermine any positive case he had. Kraft knew that. He knew for a fact Parcells wouldn't get in. He also knew that there were old fart reporters in the media that loved Parcells and they were his biggest champions and constantly do a lot to cheerlead his "contributions". So Kraft stepped in because he's desperate for the media to get behind him for the Football HOF.

Frankly it's embarrassing. What kind of franchise honors a man who literally announced to the whole world he was bailing on the team for a division rival (in fact, the most hated rival we have in the division) before the biggest game this franchise ever played at the time and also screwed us out of our best player at the time? It's hard to imagine any team doing that besides one with a thirsty owner who wants to kiss up to as many people in power so he can be validated before he dies.

I think he can fix the one at a time log jam.
You are absolutely right, he can break the log jam... Bob Kraft own the team, owns the PHoF... He can put in RB Bernie Adell in if he wanted to (if you don't recognize the name, check out the Today in Pats History: Chuck Fairbanks thread)...

But that does not address the root complaint of a lot of me (and others)... that a lot of old time Patriot players are seemingly locked out because of specific requirements... that needs to change...

Wave of the magic wand and it's all fixed.

Kraft panders to the masses. He's not going to put Julius Adams in unless there's a big push. Too many people have recency bias and don't care.

the laugh was for the dumblesore gif and wave the magic wand line...

the stuff that i left in the quote box? that hurts, because there is a whole lot of truth to it...

If too many people have recency bias and don't give a crap, then its up to the stewards of the PHof to correct that... **** those guys for not doing more

It's just how it's set up. It's a popularity contest for the final vote, so the recent guys will always win out. Once he burns thru the SB champion guys, there's going to be a real scraping the bottom of the barrel thing going on to get guys in every year. Of the guys retired now, here's who should get in:

Gronk
DMac
Adam
Slate
High
Mankins
Wes
James White
Bill

That's nine year's worth. Let's assume for a moment when Bill retires they just put him in. Now you go back and look at who's not in from the 1970's, 80's and 90's. Julius Adams, Russ Francis .... who else? Randy? For what, 2-3 years service? Tim Fox? Curtis Martin? Ted Johnson? Julius yes I can get behind that. The rest ? Meh. Milloy? Andy's favorite Phifer? Just because they have rings? Who's on the team now that projects to be that good 10 years from now? Do they have to win another SB to lock it in? Does that bump anyone?

They only way guys like Julius get in is because the committee put them in. The rest is going to be a popularity contest coupled with a log jam, and our generation of fan is less tech savvy and is aging out.

The way Kraft has it set up now sucks. Someone like Curran, Perry or Bedard needs to start banging the drum on fixing it.

Schweitzer was a stiff, he had an uphill climb to make the roster even if he was healthy.

I think it would have been a bad sign if Swchitzer made the roster.

Be an interesting thread right there... who deserves the PHoF...

AV is a franchise legend. I'd say even more football fans in general know AV and his association with the Patriots than what he did with the Colts. It's a joke that he's not in the PHOF. Hopefully the rules are changed and more than one can get in at a time.

When is Jordan Richards being inducted?

Solder, Andrews, and KVN perhaps. I'd have to look harder at the first run and middle run to see who was missed. An unpopular one right now but Mayo probably still deserves it.

With Schweitzer retiring, maybe that get's the Pats on the right track.. How many years did the Pats have a Vet O-lineman retire in TC?

It will be interesting to see whom they get to replace Schweitzer or if they use the roster sport for someone like Clowney.

Mayo no. Solder maybe. Andrews yes. KVN maybe.

I'm sure there are a few more that we aren't considering too. Vinatieri is lock does that mean we should at least consider Gostkowski.

Looking ahead, my best guess as to what will happen in the next several years:

2026: Gronk (1st year eligible)
2027: Vinatieri
2028: Belichick (1st year eligible? Does college coaching keep the clock from starting?)
2029: Logan Mankins (? Tough to say. Could be one from the next group.)
2030-2033: Hightower, McCourty, Welker and Ninkovich
Other less-probable possibilities: Koppen, Gostkowski, Andrews and Solder.

The Senior Committee was on a pattern of every four years, but that's not set in stone.
Per the Pats HoF website they meet "periodically".
2011: Jon Morris
2015: Houston Antwine
2019: Leon Gray
Dante Scarnecchia was inducted in 2023, but technically as a 'contributor', not a senior selection.
I'm guessing that they will add one in 2027 (Russ Francis), and another in 2031 (Chuck Fairbanks).
Bill Lenkaitis and Ted Johnson would be other potential senior choices.
Lawyer Milloy would be senior-eligible in 2035, Dan Koppen in 2037.

He’ll get in.
