Somewhat OT: Jakobi Meyers says he didn't feel respect playing here

Apparently we let him walk over $1 million.

Never felt respect...please.

I cannot stand when athletes who make millions of dollars complain about being "disrespected" financially.

Poor baby. Know your audience.

Welcome to the world where your employer doesn't value you as much as you think you are worth.

The Greg Dudek article (link on main page) is the worst written thing I've ever seen published. It's full of typos and sounds like AI wrote it. What a piece of garbage.

Also, Meyers isn't wrong for saying he's glad he went to LVR because the Pats were a mess - mostly because of BB's horrible planning and staffing on the offensive side.

I was vehemently against the choice to let him go as much as I was to sign JSS - from the drop. It was a stupid move - even from any armchair fan's assessment at home. And it revealed the biggest reason to finally let BB go - bad personnel management.

Paying the extra $1M to Meyers was worth more than JSS + Parker's production and would have saved a few $$M too.

You should watch the interview. If you already did you clearly came away with a different take than most of us. He answered questions and was candid without taking a “woe is me” attitude. He was very well spoken and did not attack the Patriots, just spoke that the Pats came in lower than he wanted, moved on and is happier for it. F&M pressed him to kind of gloat about how much better it is or trash the organization which he did not take the bait.

Calling him a poor baby is an odd response for what he actually said.

States without income taxes make it up on service fees (and lack of service...quality schools and the like). Flat service fees and sales taxes take a much bigger % bite out of the lower end of the economic ladder, of course.

Income tax, particularly a progressive income tax, is what hits wealthy people much harder.
Rich people especially really rich people can move their money around to avoid paying it.

It's not like a state not having income tax means they give that money up. Other taxes are just higher. It all works out in the end.
Tourists fund states like Nevada and Florida
If Jacobi lives in a hotel and rents a Hertz car for 3 years, it might add up to $100 grand in tourist taxes, leaving him only an extra $4.4 mill to spend.

Nevada property taxes are among the lowest in the US while Mass is among the highest
Nevada property transfer tax is lower than Mass
Nevada & municipality sales tax is 2-3% higher than Mass

This has been my biggest thing the last few years. The fact that us, the fans, who let's be honest, have about 1/1000th the football knowledge Bill has have seen a lot of these issues way sooner than Bill. From pushing Brady out, to the Patricia experiment, to letting Meyers go, to begging for Onwenu to move to RT. Lots of people on here, on the radio, on Twitter, etc have been calling things out as they happen without the benefit of hindsight and Bill didn't seem to realize the mistakes as he made them.

That’s what happens when your inner circle is filled with “yes men”. I don’t think Bill was trying to be a dictator in that regard but it seems like those around him didn’t seem to challenge his bad ideas. When that happens a lot of terrible decisions are made.

That happens everywhere whether it is business, politics or sports for examples.

The early days Bill had guys around him like Pioli and Dimitroff and then a little later, Floyd Reese. Those guys came up in the NFL with him or around the same time as him and were much closer in age to Bill than the later personnel regime and I think that was a big factor. With Groh and Wolf they weren't much older than Bill's kids and started in the league when Bill already had a handful of rings. You see it a lot with the Boomer generation. They don't like the direction things are going and don't like change so they double down on what they know to their own detriment. Maybe Wolf and Groh don't know what they're doing but maybe they do and Bill wouldn't take their input. We will never know but what does seem glaringly apparent is Bill seemed reluctant to adapt to what the league has become and now he's out of a job largely because of it.

But he did get what he thought he was worth somewhere else.... And he's been good for them while we had one of if not the worst offense in the league.

Agreed. If I have worked somewhere for a few years and I feel it's time for a raise and my current company won't give it to me I look elsewhere. If I find a job paying what I want then it turns out what I wanted is what I am worth. The market dictates worth not the employer.

Home grown player did not feel respected in Foxboro, left over a million bucks. Hokers

Don't be obtuse.. everything is relative. Is it that hard to grasp that he could feel more respected as a player and person in Oakland than he did in Foxboro? Why would he lie about this?

The Patriots have a hell of a lot of disgruntled former players for a team that supposedly does everything the right way when it comes to players.

There's a whole bunch of guys that are so married to the Bill v Tom thing that they cannot move on. It's become part of their online persona.
The TvB debate is legitimate and exactly the kind of thing that many fans enjoy discussing. And it will be around forever.

Still waiting for something that makes Meyers look bad....

I am sure if you didn't like your job, and someplace better offered you more money, then you would stay in your current position, right? Right?? Hello.....?!?!?
Again, we don't know that deal structure NE offered. The deal he got in LV is essential only a one year deal. Also, if he didn't like his employer, he shouldn't even care if they didn't offer him what he wanted and signed Juju instead. Remember his "cold world" tweet? He was clearly upset. He was the #1 WR in NE and bolted over potentially $1M for LV being the #2 WR where they could cut bait with him at anytime.

Yes we are not good at drafting WRs, but Myers as a #2 = mediocrity for ever. We need dynamic playmakers at WR, Myers will never be that. The threat of a big play that could swing the game backs up and spreads out the opposing D. Recently we have seen what happens with 8 or 9 guys in the box. Never win anything. We have to let go of guys like Myers and hope we draft better.
I was against letting Meyers walk. He was our most reliable receiver, worked his ass off and improved every season with different QBs and OCs. He's a flexible possesion receiver that can work from the outside or the slot. Good route runner.

Although it's true he's not a WR#1, he's an above average WR2/WR3. Unlike in NE, where he was the top receiver from 2020-22; he was WR#2 in Vegas on yards, targets, receptions, FDs, and tied DAdams in TDs with 8. He also had 2 rushing TDs and never fumbled the ball receiving or rushing.

I think he was misused here because of the failure to bring in a true WR#1, instead of relying on JE11, Agholor, and Parker, none of which were true WR#1s (at the time). He's a much better receiver than Bourne. If we let Meyers walk, we should let Bourne walk, especially after the ACL.

I’m racking my brain about the other teams and genuinely thinking what other teams have a third receiver who would be better than Meyers. If someone can think of a team or several I’d be fine with being wrong.
Only one I can think of is Tyler Boyd (CIN) but they're probably more comparable than not.

Getting respect and validation to your value isn't always tied to a dollar amount.

I have zero problem with Meyers getting more money somewhere else. Pats tried to negotiate and they lost.

+1 +1 +1

I will never begrudge a player for acting in his own best interest. For some guys that means money. For some guys it means chasing a championship. For some guys it means playing time. For some guys it means a certain region of the country. For some guys it means getting out of a situation where they aren't happy.

For Meyers it seems as though it was a combination of a couple things.

I know PatsFans loves Myers. How many teams have a receiver more explosive than Myers as #3? Lots. Steady 4 to 6 yard receptions with few YAC will not win many games. I like Myers too, but without TB12 I think posters have to recognize the need for more dynamic receiving and TE play.
In Meyer's career, he avgs 11.7 yds/recep. and 7.9 yds/tgt. Meyers avgs 58.8% FDs/recep. His catch% is 68.0
YBC/R = 8.3
YAC/R = 3.0
ADOT = 9.9
Drop% = 3.3
RAT = 95.3

In Boyd's career, he avgs 11.7 yds/recep. and 8.0 yds/tgt. Boyd avgs 58.9% FDs/recep. His catch% is 68.1
YBC/R = 7.0
YAC/R = 4.7
ADOT = 7.0
Drop% = 3.6
RAT = 93.1

Boyd is the best WR#3 I can think of and Meyers appears to be better except for YAC. There may be others out there better, but Boyd is considered a pretty good 3rd receiver.
