Belichick (via Howe) also claims be didn’t want to draft Mac Jones

Is Curran really saying he believes Mac will be the 24 QB?
If that’s the case, we should force Kraft to sell the team

Its what you all wanted.

You guys want a WR well get ready to have a top WR. Because the Pats GM is not taking a QB with the # 3 pick to upset McCorky. After years of drafting defense the Pats will be building around franchise QB McCorky.

So the most trusted quarterback evaluator in professional football at the time just happened to defer to lesser minds on the most consequential draft pick of his lifetime? Sure dude. He just happened to pick his college coach buddy’s player as usual, but it was everyone else’s fault they picked Jones.
It really is amazing how some fans are going in circles trying to defend Bill's recent history of failures. My advice to those fans is the same that was given to me when talk of Brady was being banned in the main forum. Let it go.

There are two things that need to be corrected concerning Blunder Bill.
1) Bill has not had a great record for 25 years here. He had a great record when he had Brady but that ended 5 years ago, coincidentally right after he chased Brady away.
2) And enough already with the "greatest HC in the history of American sports" as Curran called him recently. He hasn't even been the best football coach, let alone in all of sports.

Hoyer would have hated that. His modus operandi was to not to play so people didn't realize how much he sucked so he could continue collecting a player's paycheck (rather than a coach's) as long as possible. He even admitted his wife wanted him "coaching" in a uniform rather than retiring for the money.

How many years did that guy collect his salary here and couldn't even win one game he started.
Everyone knows that Kraft made Bill take Hoyer, just as he did years later with N'Keal Harry and Mac Jones.

Nobody forced BB to pick Jones. It was 100% his call, he was the GM. The pick itself was fine when it was made. Nobody knew Jones wouldn't work out. He's not the first 1st-round QB that flamed out. Happens all the time in the league.

Feels weird saying "was" when it comes to BB coaching and being the GM.
Not only have plenty of first round QB picks flamed out but so have QBs taken with the #1 pick overall.

Hoyer is an UDFA who went 10-6 over 2 seasons in Cleveland.

By the time he started a game for the Pats he was old and broken down.

Mike Lombardi said BB liked Davis Mills back in 2021 after the draft. Funniest part about this thread is the OP thinking BB is Jeff Howe's source and leaking rumors.

BB will live rent free in the head of the haters for a decade or so... they'll reinvent history and suggest without Bill, Tom could have won ten or more rings.

Nobody knows what happened here at the end, if the Krafts stuck their nose in and clenched up during the rebuild. Who cares?

The big bad meanie is gone... move on with your lives.
Maybe we need a separate forum for BB talk, like the Crazy Eight insisted we have for Brady talk. Would that be helpful?

Words can't describe how elated I am that Bill's gone. Let me try and say it with a song...

Sorry I think that is BS….more BB trying to re-write his legacy…and frankly it is sad. Everyone would have jumped to take Mac at 15 ….and all the Mediots were ball washing BB and the Pats for drafting him. Shanahan sources have him saying that he regretted not taking Mac with their pick instead of Lance. I don’t think Mac is as flawed as he has appeared fundamentally…..Bill f’ed things up and he has some character issues and growing up to do….we shall see…..But Bill needs to own his mistakes….let me guess …next, “Nkeal Harry wasn’t my kind of guy but Robert wanted him”

Hope Arthur Blank, Jeffrey Lurie or whoever else might be foolish enough to consider hiring Bill are paying attention to his graceless exit and asking themselves whether they really want to invite this egomaniacal rot into their organization.
Well said

Yeah I guess he’s willing to really lay down the law when it comes to overreaching by 2 rounds for Cole Strange but was sidelined for the franchise QB pick
Wait…..didn’t you hear?! Bill didn’t want to take Strange there….Dante made him do it

Bill is not the best coach of all time.
Who is? Curly Lambeau.

He stole Mahomes hair do.

Yet Bill SUCKS because the guy he picked at 15 flamed out?

I'm trying to follow your logic here, but it's hard.
Also, if you listen to most of the people who played for him, and many who played or coached against him, your declaration that he's not the GOAT coach seems a bit too definitive, you know?

If you look at pure W's and L's he's not.

Whats going to be funny is 2 years down the road from now and the wins are not pouring in as planned.

The Pats players are in the arrested section of the paper because Mayo is a players coach. Fighting and complaining about money "trade me or pay me MF" is common place. The Pats cap is blown up from writing checks.

Its what you wanted. Its all good.

Statistics are like prisoners - they'll tell you whatever you want if you torture them enough.

Pre-salary cap, the NFL had super teams that stayed together. Best GM was the guy with the fattest checkbook; best coach was the guy with the best GM.

Look at the Steelers Superbowl rosters - pretty much the same team. Same with the Dolphins in their glory days.

Shula had the best QB in the league for years and never won it with him.

Bill is certainly in the conversation, along with one or two others.

EDIT: And let me add...game planning beat the Rams in 2001. Faulk was shocked by McGinnest.

BB was also the only coach who figured out how to shut down Peyton Manning, year after year - if BB was coaching the Colts at the turn of the century, they would have had a dynasty. Nobody shut down those Colts except the Patriots. They rolled up the score on everyone, except the Patriots.

BB is the only coach who would have goaded Carroll in those last critical seconds, and he had worked the team all week on the very play that got Butler the chance. Everyone thought he was making a mistake in not calling a time-out.

Defense beat the Rams.
Preparation for a long halftime played a huge role in beating the Falcons.
He won a Superbowl without a secondary made of band-aids.

All that stuff matters...tiny details (Brady just talked about the preparation) made the difference. I was at the Superbowl after-party following the game where Chatham clobbered the streaker. He was asked if he was shocked to see that guy running down the field. He answered something like "Nah, I play for Belichick. We watched film of that guy all week." (I hope I'm remembering this right). That's a joke, sure, but it speaks to what Belichick was all about. Details, putting in the work, sacrificing for the littlest of edges that might make a difference. That was Brady, too, which is why they worked so brilliantly together, and it's why the Pats won several Superbowls where they didn't have the best roster.

Taking those things for granted isn't remotely fair. New England fans should celebrate the guy (both guys), not attack him, but alas, we live in Felger's world now.

Absolutely correct, no matter what is said.. he still was the GM.. so let me guess, he didn't want to draft Ryland in the 4th, sign juju, sign rieff, sign Parker to an extension.. sign Lowe or any other other player that didn't workout.. LOL.. I was forced to do it! An organization isn't going to pay a GM 25 million and have to make the decision for the GM..
Lame.

Kraft announced he was taking away some of Bill's power for a different approach. None of this is a mystery.

And if you're going to run down every personnel decision that doesn't work, you're going to be miserable for the rest of the time you're a fan of the Patriots. (He wanted Jakobi, by the way, not JuJu). And Lowe came in after our starting LT was hurt, as well as the 2 backups. Lowe was the best we could find after the season had already started and 4 tackles were injured.

No. It's not lame. No matter who, what when and why. Bill was the GM, he controlled all roster related decisions. So Kraft was paying bill 25 million a year not to make roster decisions by your logic? In the words of a great HC that couldn't win without a QB.. " it is what it is "...
