Belichick (via Howe) also claims be didn’t want to draft Mac Jones

Got rid of Brady with no plan in place. Biggest mistake of Belichick’s career.
And yet he's criticized for having a plan in place earlier: Garoppolo.

Using draft capital on a QB in 2019 would've gone over like a lead balloon with the Brady people. As it was we spent a 2nd on Sanu to shore that side up.

Imagine picking a QB that year: "He picked Drew Lock instead of AJ Brown!!!!!"

A lot of people here wanted them to draft Lamar in 2018.

Which would have been the right thing to do

I think having the heir apparent is proper.

I agree with it.

What I'm saying is there's a great deal of hypocrisy here. Wasting picks on QBs when they could be spent on the offense to help Brady. Preferring the new QB over Brady. These are the charges being made.

You can't have it both ways.

A lot of teams have succession plans. The Packers 2x had one, the Colts, etc. Every year you make the decision on whether it's the right time to make the move. I've always said 2020 was the right time for the Patriots and Brady. I even rooted for Brady in Tampa, knowing the obvious: the Patriots run would not continue with him

Hope Arthur Blank, Jeffrey Lurie or whoever else might be foolish enough to consider hiring Bill are paying attention to his graceless exit and asking themselves whether they really want to invite this egomaniacal rot into their organization.

There’s definitely a pro-Belichick defense going on right now but I definitely think he didn’t want to draft Mac.
Yeah I guess he’s willing to really lay down the law when it comes to overreaching by 2 rounds for Cole Strange but was sidelined for the franchise QB pick

Mac Jones was 100x the draft pick of Jordan Richards.

In the alternate universe where Mac Jones isn't picked we probably end up with Brian Hoyer as our starter in 2021

At least they had the head coach succession in place.
Succession plans are not usually successful. So far the Pats are 0-2. They have succeeded in forcing out the two GOATS early and ugly. Drafting Jimmy G was a major component in destroying the Brady/BB partnership and now Mayo undermined and ultimately drove out BB.

thought it was common knowledge that Kraft basically forced Bill to take a QB in 1st round.

Cam was actually doing pretty well until he got covid, and he wasn’t the same since.
Very true. Although, Cam was an afterthought that fell into his lap after the fact. But Cam did get Edelman his record highest receiving yards in a game (think it was Seattle or Carolina) before things fell apart.

To be fair, that would have been a disastrous use of draft capital and rightly criticized.

Krafts wanted Mac. "The face of the franchise." Howe has confirmed this with a source other than Belichick.
That is why Jones isnt going anywhere and the Pats 1st pick wont be defense and it wont be a QB.

Hoyer would have hated that. His modus operandi was to not to play so people didn't realize how much he sucked so he could continue collecting a player's paycheck (rather than a coach's) as long as possible. He even admitted his wife wanted him "coaching" in a uniform rather than retiring for the money.

How many years did that guy collect his salary here and couldn't even win one game he started.

Ugh I’m ok with Harrison JR as long as there is a QB coming immediately after.

Yes on this.
Which would have been the right thing to do
No on this. They needed to maximize what they had left with Tom and the rest of the aging vets. Drafting a QB who sits for two more years wouldn’t have helped them. They wouldn’t have been able to draft a capable RB after their 1st round pick. They probably don’t win in 2018 had they drafted Lamar.

Lol oh wow yeah Davis Mills would have saved this team….
No, but moving on from Davis 3rd round Mills would not be national news.

2021 was a 5hitty QB draft and taking a guy at 15 basically means youre yoked together for 2 to 3 years.

Maybe later down the draft but Kraft is on team Mac and going for weapons and OL.

Kraft thought that Bledsoe was the answer too. Big Jerry loves Dak through thick and thin.

Jerry really loved Romo, but he had to pull the plug.

Bledsoe was my guy growing up. His team was eroding around him, but he did a lot to get them to the playoffs in 1998. 1999 was the nail in the coffin. He never looked the same after that.
