Belichick wanted Jakobi. Was convinced out of it by the new guys picking players

Amazingly we are slowly finding out the downturn of the franchise that was the greatest dynasty ever with one man in charge was precipitated by that man having less authority.

And...Bill was the big boss. If he wanted Jakobi, he could have had him.

That article does nothing to really make Bill look good.
When your boss publicly states, within a couple years of winning your 3rd SB in 5 years that he wants things done differently you are no longer the “big boss” who does what he wants.

It's the whiffing in the draft for an extended period of time that led to the erosion of power. If the draft whiffs happened from 2005 to 2013, a similar erosion would have happened.

There's a meme going around social media that Bill drafted more future head coaches than 1,000 yard receivers.

That's the kind of inept drafting over quarter century that were talking about here.

didn't jakobi say there was no effort to try and keep him?

it's more likely imo Bill let Jakobi go because he was one of the "malcontents" in his eyes from the patricia season.

That inept drafting over a quarter century won 6 Super Bowls and 17 division titles. But ok.

on the other end, jeff howe says scouts/front office people would get discouraged when they spent years scouting players and bill threw it all out.

so who knows who is to believe. but Bill has made odd picks like special teamers in the 2nd round trading out of the 1st for years. so its not out of the norm to believe he made the final call

look at caserio in houston. people hated him here. now hes hitting slam dunks...

It’s fitting and unsurprising isn’t it?

Why do you people keep saying the same **** over and over like we all don't know what the Patriots did?

Focus on what Bill accomplished without Brady and there's your factual snapshot of how his career was trending.

Here's a hint. It looks an awful lot like 2000 and the last 4 years.

quarter of a century of bad drafting might be abit extreme. but theres at least 8 years of bad drafting. the 2nd dynasty was largely build on great drafts from 2009-2012. Then as those players aged out not being able to replace them via the draft is why the roster got worse and worse until we are where we are today.

To be clear. I said over 24 years. Not for 24 years.

That poster can't even bring them self to admit that Bill bad drafting is why we're where we are now but instead chooses to focus on the success of the past.

yeah. no one rational can look at this roster and think our drafting has been good enough the last 5 years.

Except for the first round talent that he actually would have gotten.
Regardless of the players they would have taken in the 1st, if Davis Mills was the starting QB in 2021 we would have had a losing season.

Bill didn’t want Mac Jones, he wanted David Mills. Don’t think it makes him look better
He signed off on Mac Jones draft pick. Its on him.
He wanted total control. Accountability comes with that no matter who tries to spin it otherwise

BS

You mean when 2 years after winning their 3rd SB in 5 years and after 1 losing season, Kraft said this

“If you want to have a good, consistent, winning football team, you can’t do it in free agency. You have to do it through the draft,” Kraft said. “That’s when you’re able to get people of great talent — whether it’s Willie McGinest or Tom Brady — you get them at a price where you can build a team and be competitive. Once they get to their first contract, if they’re superstars, you can only balance so many of them.

“So really, the teams who draft well are the ones who will be consistently good. I don’t feel we’ve done the greatest job the last few years, and I really hope — and I believe — I’ve seen a different approach this year.”

And diminished belichicks authority? The 2023 team is 90% the transactions since the 2020 season ended, and that is when Kraft appears clearly to have instructed belichick to do things differently.
And let’s not forget the season after that last SB when the team started 10-1 allowing 14 or less in every win, the consensus argument is they lacked weapons, after Robert Kraft released Antonio Brown because of an article accusing him of something he was never charged with.

Regardless of the players they would have taken in the 1st, if Davis Mills was the starting QB in 2021 we would have had a losing season.

yeah i'm not sure the Davis Mills news is the flex some fans think it is. honestly Bill might have gotten fired sooner.

Davis mills as your starting QB with Patricia/judge running the offense.

Before that draft Kraft publicly said he wants the draft handled differently. Since bb ran it up until then the only reasonable conclusion is that he took that power away.
He also refused when bb wanted to trade 10 last off season and instructed him that 10 is his qb.
