Issue I have with Mayo is he has never called a play of any kind in the NFL.

That’s a problem.

If Vrabes wants the job, and you can get him for 3rd rd pick or lower I think you have to do it.
Absolutely agree. I'm definitely ok with Vrabel he's a leader if mean and not scared to challenge guys to make them better. The feeling I get is RK and BB talk things out but decides it's probably best to part.

The media love to play up BB wanted to keep Jimmy and let Brady go.
Lynch is the one who says when he called BB and asked about Brady after Jimmy he was shot down about Brady. I'll take the first hand source that says he wasn't willing to let Brady go.
Exactly. That guy who wrote the damming article has proven to be a fraud.

Why? Most HCs don’t call plays.

From what I understand he was approached about being given the title and calling the plays but he declined himself on both. Not sure why but that's what Curran mentioned

But I can’t think of a single one ever who never did.

Calling plays means you’ve had to react in real time to the game as it unfolds.

It’s concerning to have a HC who has never done that at any level .

Closest comp is Demeco Ryans, and there are parallels BUT he had DC experience.

The full quote, from Ian's article:

“Look, I’m for whatever collectively we decide as an organization is the best thing to help our football team,” said Belichick when asked if he had given any thoughts of letting go of the personnel and draft duties going forward. “I have multiple roles in that, and I rely on a lot of people to help me in those responsibilities. If somebody’s got to have the final say, I have it. I rely on a lot of other people to help, and whatever that process is, I’m only part of it.”

Emphasis is mine.

Personally I wouldn't conclude he's conceding the GM role based on the full text.

Personally I would conclude he's still maneuvering behind the scenes for the "collective" decision to be that he keeps full power, with maybe a figurehead / fall guy to take the heat for him.

Yeah. I guess it kind of goes against what O'Brien implied with Kraft being the decision maker. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

It's a odd thing. But don't believe it would be an impediment to him as a coach.

This is the only real way he comes back. They need to overhaul the front office and get a real GM that can handle hiring a scouting staff.
It can't be Groh or anyone that has BB ties. It needs to be someone who's not only solid, but can both work with Bill and put their foot down when it comes to personnel decisions (including coaching improvement hires).

It sounds like Bill is daring the Kraft’s to fire him and they better not lose their nerve.

Taking this to the next logical conclusion, Bill's daring shows he either knows or has concluded that the Krafts are not going to fire him.

Otherwise IMO he'd be setting up for a graceful exit instead of "moving on to next season".

This assumes that Bill was ever going to have a graceful exit that wasn't on his terms. Bill probably never cared about a nice mutual parting of ways unless it was him deciding he was retiring

I am not sure why people think this makes a trade out of the question. If BB is not amenable to a trade and tries to force his firing, Kraft will just sit him down and make him stay home for a year rather than lose him for nothing. BB only has a few years left, he's in his 70s. It's in his interest to work with Kraft on a trade.
That's not how it works though.

As soon as Kraft hires a new coach, Belichick is free to go elsewhere. That's an NFL rule.

Plus, Kraft would be destroyed by the NFL national press if he did that.

He was already heavily criticized for even considering that possibility yesterday morning on the pregame shows. Bill Cowher, Jimmy Johnson and Rex Ryan were already all over that possibility.

This presser does have a bit of the flavor that it is political maneuvering, rather than the product of a unified franchise.

The next several days should be very interesting, and rather telling.

Amid all of the BB speculation, the Commanders are already putting in requests to interview candidates. The longer Kraft waits, the increased chance he’s gonna botch this whole ****ing thing. I can’t imagine it’s easy. It’s like being on the dating circuit when you go through a divorce of 20+ years. You’re rusty. You’ve been outta the game too long. Go from meeting chicks at a bar to now having to use tinder. It’s a whole new world and I really do worry about Krafts ability to woo talent. Then again, Kraft always has a young blonde under his arm so maybe he’s more fly than I give him credit for.
Ex-GM Keim has it on authority that the new owner Harris is not going to hire Belichick. For a variety of reasons, but mainly because Harris is going to be a hands on owner, much more so than Kraft. He'll be in all the football meetings.

I am more inclined to let the coach hire the coaches.
If that story is even true. The writers tweeted out the next day that it couldn't be confirmed

Agreed. What is also apparent now is that the organization has so much pressure on them now that they've never seen before from the fan base, local and national media. They know they need to get the ship righted. This is what needed to happen I feel In order for them to make philosophical change.
If you're responding to empty seats and think you need to make a change because of that, then be prepared for many more years of empty seats.

Because you're letting the passengers determine the direction of your ship.

You need to clear your mind and think of one thing only: how do we create a winner, a team capable of winning the Super Bowl?

Everything else should fall into place if you do it right.

John harbaugh
Hernan Edwards
Nagy

Are a few who come to mind. I’m sure there are more.
