Tom Curran: Sources made 'clear to me' decision to move on from Belichick made after Germany game

The Bucs were 7-9 before Brady. I wouldn't call that a loaded team. Or maybe loaded compared to the crap here but that's a low bar.
If they weren't loaded, why did he choose to play there instead of JAX or Detroit?

Let's be real, Brady wouldn't come back 28-3 on this team. That's like saying the 2019 Patriots were capable of doing the same thing with Brady. That never would have happened.
You do realize he did 28-3 comeback without Gronk?

Bennett was a nice replacement. The rest of the team was a lot better than the 2019-current team. That was point.

Seems the entire NFL world is discussing the Brady vs. Belichick thing.

Let's put it this way: which one of these is harder?

A great QB leaving a winning team for another team that is loaded and winning a Super Bowl?

A great coach losing all his great players and then rebuilding the team into a winner?
Let's put it this way: which one of these is harder?

A 42 year old QB who spent his entire career in one system with one coach heading to a perennial laughing stock that been over .500 just two times in the decade before he got there in a season with heavily restricted access to practices and losing teammates to failed covid tests at any given moment and still winning a Super Bowl?

A once great coach being given a blank check and complete autonomy to hand pick the players and coaches he wants and how he wants to use them being able to compete in year 4 of a "rebuild" in a wide open AFC?

Sure they had enough talent to make Brady think there was a lot of potential to go somewhere with that team. Also a really good OL and that's where it all starts.

"Loaded" though? Ehhh not really. There were reasons why they were 7-9 and it wasn't just Jameis throwing picks. IIRC AB and Gronk also weren't there at the start.

Can't hate on the Tampa weather either.

He originally wanted to go to SF (and where he should’ve ended up). No team is “loaded” as there will be weaknesses somewhere. But the Bucs had a lot desirable pieces on both sides of the ball which is why many predicted he’d bail on the Pats for the Bucs. Brady did bring several players over as well.

Mac Jones got Bill fired, or at least a big accomplice, if Germany story is true. Now Mac sits on the bench probably because Bill found out story is true.

It will be tough watching Bill (hopefully) passing Shula or winning another ring on a different team. It was a good run with Brady. Now it will be a good run with Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix. Draft is deep in first three rounds for our biggest needs (QB, OT, WR and even CB). Once we get rid of JC Jackson we'll have about $90M in cap space. Not many top tier FA will be available so we got to keep some of our own and hopefully sing some high priced players who will be waived to free cap space from other teams.

I'm just curious who Kraft has in mind as next coach. If it's Mayo then a GM will be hired and a new coaching staff.

It shall be an interesting off-season.

Not sure there's much to worry about there.

If BB is the one responsible for Corky Mac OK.

I do not trust him finding a franchise QB in the 2024 draft and BB may as well pack up and go. I have a hard time buying that BB did not see that Jones has a weak arm and is a baby.

…………

LSD is no joke.

Show everyone here where I want him fired Igor.

Yes, for the last 20 odd years you've exhibited Brandon like erratic behavior. Too much LSD in the 60s and 70s at those Grateful Dead shows.

…….

Bill is getting himself fired (if the recent rumors are true). He’s solely responsible for the team that he’s built. Had he put more effort this off-season, these conversations in the media may not be happening. I don’t like Mac’s game and don’t think he’s the guy, but he’s been set up to fail since last season - very David Carr esque. I would’ve like to have seen more talent around Mac.

He’s due $14M for 2024, but the Pats can get out it as there’s no dead cap hit. I was a big fan of JC in his first stint here, but he has been really bad since his injuries.

It was made clear to me by an NFL owner that his team would be competitive and make the playoffs.

Turns out that was a crock.

Watch yo' step out there - lots of bad info and shady characters.

Weird... I don't recall those guys playing for the Patriots after Brady left.

Also I don't remember the Patriots making the playoffs with Cassel either for some reason... maybe I missed it.
Bill coached up Matt to have a winning percentage just like Bill’s record without Brady, below average. That and one and out in the playoffs.

With Edelman, White, Bennett, Hogan, and Amendola.

Gigantic talent difference. I don't even know you debate it.
Edelman hogan, amendola etc were not exactly high offensive draft picks . They were low draft picks, or signings which worked and they made played their asses of and made plays and clutch plays. The current signings like parker ,jonnu smith etc havent panned out
So its not like BB has ignored offensive side of the ball. He has done it the same way .
Remember in 2014 when they got blown out by the chiefs , it was the same commentary - no weapons , poor offensive drafting

Kraft is about to turn his team into the Jets. Just watch.

Doing the bare minimum is, technically, not ignoring.

How much is too much? Asking for a friend.

Is Bill Belichick the right guy to lead us through that offseason into 2024 and beyond?

And that's exactly the right question to be asking when you're making that kind of decision. His track record is in the past not the future.
With all due respect to Bill, And everything he's done, and meant for the organization.
I'd have to say no. He's not the right person to handle another QB draft and the organization 2024 and beyond.

He has his way he's managed the roster, and the draft bust have finally caught up with him. There is no GOAT to save him this time.
I don't think they'd give a new guy GM duties like Bill has. Bill seems to have a lot of help but gets final say, I don't think they give Mayo final say.
Agreed. And I'm sure Mayo would be just fine with that. He would of course have alot of say as the HC. But Bill said himself it is impossible for 1 person to do both jobs.
