All, starting this thread to discuss the impending trim down to the initial 53-man roster, which has a deadline of 4:00 PM Eastern tomorrow, Tuesday August 29th. Discussion on cuts which have occurred has been scattered across various threads so it seemed wise to try to get one central spot for things, as during the next 24 hours we will see the toughest cuts occur.

So far I am seeing the following transactions:

CUT:
Carl Davis
Diego ***ot
Brad Hawkins
Johnny Lumpkin
CJ Marable
Quandre Mosely
Rodney Randle
Justus Tavai
Micah Vanterpool
Scotty Washington
Carson Wells

TRADED:
Pierre Strong Jr

ACQUIRED (via trade):
Tyrone Wheatley Jr
Vederian Lowe

I believe this puts us around 78 players (if I am wrong on this count, please let me know), so 25 more cuts left to go. However, at least three of them (Trey Flowers, Cody Davis, Calvin Anderson) are on PUP or NFI, so they can be carried without being counted against the roster unless/until they are activated. Therefore, only around 22 cuts really need to happen. Additionally, there will undoubtedly be players placed on IR from the "final" 53 man roster so that they may return in-season, opening the door for some cut players to come right back again.

For news on players who are cut, please use this thread. If someone is acquired, or a major trade occurs, or a very unexpected cut happens, certainly a new thread can be made as well to focus on that topic.

Thanks all, the next day should be interesting!

These cuts seem like "no-brainer" moves to me:

- Trace McSorely
- Thyrick Pitts
- Jeremiah Pharms
- Joe Giles-Harris
- Corliss Waitmann
- One of the kickers

So that is at least 6 moves you can probably count on. Suppose it's possible Bill carries two kickers but that seems.... exceedingly unlikely.

Edit: deleted an old Reiss tweet lol

A bit puzzled at the timing of these 2 OT acquisitions.
We all knew the Tackle situation was lacking, so why didn't BB try to bolster that earlier in camp?
1. You spent the whole preseason with crap at OT, so the rest of the evaluations were not fair either
2. You wait until after camp & preseason games, so now these new guys have to try to get up to speed behind the 8-ball.
3. If 1 or both of these guys stick (trading value, not just waiver pickups) then who is gone?
- Sow, McDermott, Reiff??

Most teams wait until around cut downs to make players available to protect themselves from injury risks.
Reiff and McDermott were just recently injured. Virtually every team has to shore up a position group or 2 at cut downs due to attrition or things not working as planned.

You are actually surprised that deals happen around the cut down that couldn't happen earlier in camp?

If the plan was 4 of
Brown
Reiff
Anderson
Sow
McDermott
would be the OTs why wouldn’t you expect moves to add OT depth when 3 of the 5 are injured?

Well, these guys weren't available when rosters were at 90, so... if you try to address it earlier in camp, you're adding guys who aren't as good as the late possible cuts.

It's the same situation with Pierre Strong. Why did Cleveland wait until now to add a running back?

Well, the Patriots were not about to cut Strong until late in the game.
