Cunningham has had 2 forgettable games and nothing much to show the last few weeks in practice. Do they take a risk on him with waiver. I don't think he will be QB2 on any team . He will be QB3. How many teams will want a QB3?

I would take Wentz I don't think there's a significant dropoff form him to anybody here. The current Patriots are not exactly a QB haven we are bottom dwellers at the moment.
He was horrible last season in Washington but might be ok as a vet backup if the team wants one.

Honestly, the Zappe situation is just a case of people needing to lower their expectations, sort of like with Mac. Mac is a solid player who has shown he can win and be a decent starter, with the unknown being just how good of a player he can be. Zappe has shown he can be a capable backup who can come in and win a couple of games if they need him to. If he can eventually get to Hoyer's level, I don't think many of us would be unhappy with that. But trying to put him on this pedestal the way people did when he started and won 2 out of 17 games last season was just unrealistic.

Either way, last night was a reminder that the offensive line situation also remains a concern, regardless of who is back there. So hopefully, they get that figured out heading into the season. Obviously, there were no starters out there, but having not watched it back yet, I don't even know if any of those guys played well enough to feel like there was much to build off of.
On Tuesday BB can get real creative with our Roster with the new Practice squad rules. Most of it should be filled out by those Pathetic Back-up Offensive Lineman let's not waste the Roster spot on the 53.

Nobody is wasting a Roster spot for him he'll be available after clearing waivers.

Just watching Zappe it's clear he has problems seeing over the Line that's not correctable with his statue and limitations.

You frequently misrepresent others' points and throw out talk-radio sensationalized junk like this.

Zappe fans = Mac haters
Or maybe they just like Zappe?
Or were disappointed with Mac's play last season?
Would it be fair of me to call Mac fans Zappe haters? No, it wouldn't.
I didn’t say all I said most. It’s true. Not just here…on twitter and in other media too. I didn’t say you’re one of them and I actually agree with your POV.
No one is their right mind has ever pretended Zappe is a superstar. That's insanity ... but it is a good way to create a faux strawman to prop up your soundbite posts.
Let’s be real…after Brady we see a lot of fans of any team have assumed their backup is a star in waiting when the starter struggles because hey look at Brady. Jets fans with Mike White. Cowboys fans who said Cooper Rush would replace Dak. Minshewmania. I’m not sold on Purdy either as a long term NFL starter but a lot of people are.

And our fanbase. Search twitter for “Zappe next Brady” and look at all the takes. Embarrassing to even put them in the same sentence. There’s been one Brady and there will only be one Brady forever.

Zappe’s a better QB than Wentz (and so is Mac). Wentz is another turnover prone player.

Honestly, the fact you’re saying this team, who hasn’t even put its offensive line starters out there yet, are bottom dwellers already is frustrating. That’s an assumption that usually takes seeing a couple of games before making that type of statement, and you’re clearly way early.

If the entire starting lineup was out there and last night happened, it would be a completely different story. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Ian, I am just discouraged by the Play of our Back-up OL I don't think anyone of them is worth a dam I really miss Scar. I hope Klemm is not a overrated Coach he was a injury riddled average player.

On speed dial: Jacoby Brissett, Colt McCoy, Marcus Mariota, TFB?
On Mariota.

I guess they are saving the real offense for game 1? I guess Bill is satisfied with what he sees from Mac and the starters in practice? The Eagles won't have any game film to study so that's good.

As good as this defense might be they still will have trouble week 1 keeping the Eagles below 24 points. This offense will need to score TDs to win that game. Not FGs. Can they score 27 points??

Agreed. Fine in small doses but that’s it.

It’s also interesting that it seems most “Zappe fans” are really Mac haters more than actually liking #4. This team will never crater on BB’s watch and get a top 3 pick in the draft so unless there’s another way to get a franchise QB here Mac’s our guy for now. This is what other teams go through in the league all the time.
Looking at Zach Wilson and Trey Lance, maybe they need to get the top pick.

Was Bill the GM smoking crack when he assembled this team? I'm talking offense here because in 2023 you need POINTS to win.
The offense is built like he’s still competing against teams in the early 2000’s. Even if you have elite QB play, you still need at least ONE elite skill player at WR/TE to compete these days.
We've seen time and time again that Bill the Coach's defenses wilt vs good teams and the offense can't score more than 21 points without major f#ck ups from the other team.
Many don’t want to acknowledge this. The reason is that the competent QB’s take advantage of the Pats weaknesses at outside CB, middle of the field and can escape the pocket when they need to.

When you don’t have an offense that can score, the defense will crack every time.
You cannot win in 2023 with FOLK! as many in here seem to think.
The game day threads last year with one poster in particular excited the drive stalled and a kicker made a field goal was bizarre. You know who it is/was.
I'm now convinced that Bill the Coach still thinks he can win in 2023 with special teams, defense, and 20 points.
Insanity.

With the new “emergency QB” rule, I think most teams will definitely be considering carrying 3. Cunningham could make the 53 and dress on game day, but not count against the 46 man active roster. The stipulation is that Mac and Zappe would both need to get “injured” and ruled out for him to enter the game, but it’s still a valuable safety net and lets him still be there holding the clipboard and learning. Over the course of the season, who knows, maybe he elevates to QB2. He would also be a depth WR and ST player if injuries hit those positions, and they could choose to activate him on some weeks as a gadget player if the game plan that week calls for it. There are a lot of little ways that keeping him makes sense, both short term and long term.

Not a chance, unless you mean the practice squad.

He will get poached. There's a reason BB made him the highest paid UDFA. He gets by under the emergency QB rule.

EDIT: @Ross12 beat me to it.

bold prediction - the Pats will sign one or more guys cut from other teams and said player(s) will play a considerable # of snaps for this team. The lack of talent on this roster is absolutely astounding.
In prior pre seasons there was always some wr or rb (or even QB) who turned some heads (like Tyquan Thornton in the film room) and we'd feel some degree of confidence in the depth on this team.
There is no depth, none, zilch, nada. none of the receivers that played last night have any business being on an XFL roster, nevermind an NFL roster. The offensive line was a complete sieve.

Please regurgitate this post in January so we can evaluate it once again.

The highest paid UDFA is paid peanuts in NFL salary terms... literally nothing.

Cunningham might get poached, what will they be missing if it does happen?

He's not a starting QB, he's not a WR. Big deal. He needs a ton of development to become anything.

You all bought the hype... and the hype train crashed and burned.
