Patriots hosting DE Trey Flowers for a visit (Update: He's Agreed to Terms)

The league has changed since then. Players like Seymour and Warren playing end don't exist. If you look at the film, you'll see Wise is inside of Uche or Judon making him an end.

Judon is listed as a LB and calls himself a LB.

They still clearly play a 3-4 defense.

If they still do, then we still need a Real Nose Tackle. Neither Godchaux nor Carl Davis is good enough in that role. UConn's Travis Jones, on the other hand, might've been...

I myself feel that we're more of a 2-4/4-2 Umbrella defense anyway, with the two Edge Defenders either standing-up in space or three-pointed on the LOS depending on the situation.

I hope in more cases than not over the Tackle.
I hope Flowers is over center in obvious passing situations.
If I were Jennings or especially Perkins, I would be very, Very worried. Sam Roberts too maybe.
More explosive than the others we have. White might be better, Barmore is obviously better, but both will need breathers. Perkins and Ekuale should be concerned. Roberts? I have no idea - he has disappeared. Jennings is fine.
One of either Big Jerry Pharma or AND Demarcus Mitchell needs to be released in like 5 minutes from now.
FIFY
Still need another above-replacement-level DB, at either Outside CB or Free Safety.
Unrelated to the thread. You are rambling.
And Mac sure could use one of the big 4 remaining UFA RBs.
More ramblings. We have a Zeke thread.
Speaking of whom... Why haven't any of the remaining UFA Offensive Tackles been invited here for workouts yet?
Because they really really really suck. Like T Lewan who is suing his surgeon for botching his ACL repair and PatsFans wants us to sign him. But this is more ramblings.

You can't be serious. Wise just had a career season while Flowers has fallen off a cliff.

You are confused. Flowers has been great, but only for a few games a year. Flowers problem is health, not performance. Why do you think Flowers has fallen off a cliff at 29? Recently a healthy Flowers is more explosive than Wise. Do you believe that the Pats talent evaluation missed what you can see? Look at Flower's clips from 2021 and 2022 and get back to me. On 2nd thought, no reason to get back to me.

Perkins got carted off today with an injury.
Didn't hear if Flowers maybe tripped him.

I never said I think he's going to trade Uche.

Obviously that last half of your question is speculation, but...

Deion Branch
Chandler Jones
Brandin Cooks

All were in the last year of their rookie deals. All had contributed. All were traded. You're arguing with others that Uche isn't worth that much, now you're really trying to make him some sacred cow in this conversation between us.

The closest analogy i see for the Pats to the Dugger/Onwenu/Uche contracts is Hightower/Collins/Jones. We were all hoping the Pats would re-sign all three. How'd that work out?

If the Pats can't come to an agreement with Uche and some team overvalues those sack numbers and makes a good offer, would it shock you to see the deal made? A bit of reference, Alex Highsmith just got 17m AAV...he's averaged 7 sacks a year, but popped for 14.5 last year. Some teams just adore sack numbers. BB never has.
Why would Flowers signing be Uche related if Uche isn’t being traded? That would mean that he signed Flowers for next year?

Alex Highsmith played 88% of his teams snaps last year. Uche played 38%.

Jones, Branch and Cooks were starters who were far strong full time players. Uche is a sub who plays 38% of the snaps.
Hightower and Collins were also full time stars.

Those players are not similar to Uche.

We are actually a 3-3 base defense that cheats a safety up on early downs to play like a 3-4,
Compared to 20 years ago the differences are:

All because of much more passing and WR heavy packages
One “OLB” is really a 43 DE who rushes the passer almost exclusively.
The other “OLB” is split between a stronger run defender on early downs (sometimes an ILB playing outside) and a pass rusher.
The NT is smaller and more agile because of less running and more passing
The DEs are one more traditional 300 LB 43 DT/34 DE hybrid who is mostly a run stopper and one smaller faster quicker DE.
One ILB is gone, replaced by a big safety who cheats up on early downs and plays similarly to what the traditional 34 ILB did but isn’t as effective vs the run and much more effective vs the pass.

Like life, nothing is certain in the NFL.

I mean, look at the State Farm actor, Aaron Rodgers. You know, the mud eating, sensory-deprivation tank swimming, homo-sapiens yet hollywood actress marrying guy who got traded to play QB for the New Jersey Jets for a few games this year.
You forgot flea infested armpit

You can't be serious. Wise just had a career season while Flowers has fallen off a cliff.

Wise had 2-1/2 sacks over the last 11 games last year. A career half-season is more like it.

Arthur Blank was right there ... applauding Flowers .... not ...

Actually, it was a career game. 3 sacks and 4 TFLs in the Baltimore game last year.

Having Flowers at the very least on the early down rotations (and HUGE if, he's healthy, should beat out Wise), is going to help Judon immensely down the stretch, if nothing else.

Also big enough to kick inside on passing downs with Barmore.
