I thought they already had him in. Maybe I’m misremembering.

Not a need but for low money it makes sense. Might become a need if they trade someone…
Your right I believe it was earlier in the off season he was in for a visit.. I liked trey when he was here.. was a home grown talent.. he had a nice season or 2 in Detroit.. however Injuries have kinda stalled his career. Who's to say he even makes the final roster cuts?

IF I was Josh Uche I would bank on having another great year and cash in unless the Pats blow me away with an extension. They are not a getting discount from Uche with the nature of this game.
IMO uche is going to have another solid year and hit FA and cash in.. we have so many FAs to be, come next season.

I would make Uche my First priority regarding an Extension.

I like uche.. but I believe they will franchise ownenu and re up duggs.. it was reported that they were in talks with uche for an extension at the beginning of camp? It would go along way for the future of the team if we can retain our own guys..

They have the bling…it would be a failure to not re-sign our homegrown guys to another contract.

Agreed.. that has been the knock on the franchise the whole time we were winning.. of not always retaining our own guys.. teams had the benefit for a while of guys playing on 6 yr rookie deals.. If they are smart they would try to Jimmy Gs agent.. LOL how many contracts has he had in 9 years..

I don’t know about discount but I feel your opinion of his value is inflated.
He had 11.5 sacks last year after 4 in his first 2 seasons.
Last year he played 38% of the snaps (374) on defense and played 30 and 31% the 2 previous years.
He had 6 of those 11.5 sacks in 2 games (Indy and az) and 9 in a 5 game stretch.

Who will break the bank for a guy who plays 22 snaps a game, had a 5 game run of good sack numbers and otherwise has a career total of 6.5 sacks in 31 games?

If he wants a contract now it should be based upon being a part time player who had one good month rushing the QB in 3 years.
If he expects more than that, he better play like that greatest month of his life consistently this year and/or develop other skills to earn more playing time.

K White is a Man/Child I think Flowers will be learning from him White have Nightmare! written all over him.
I don’t see us using him the Miami did at all.

So...not a very good news...i am probably in minority but i would prefere younger playiers
The loser of a Jenkins/Perkins competition would be a guy who doesn’t belong on a roster, not a younger developmental player. Both have one foot out of the league and can’t be considered prospects.

That's one way to look at it. Another is to look at the contracts offered when a double-digit sack artist hits the market, which isn't terribly frequent. Someone will pay up big if Uche has another season even approaching last year's showing. I'd much prefer to retain his services long term. We need speed on this defense.

This signing makes me happy. Hopefully he can return to form and help Barmore and White dominate while cracking some heads himself along the way. Was a very good pressure guy for the Pats and in college.

How many “double digit sacks artist” have 9 in 5 games and 6.5 in their other 31?
How many play less than 40% of the snaps?

Everyone who hits 10 sacks in a season is not the same player.

If he “approaches last season” by playing 38% of the snaps, and instead of a month with 9 sacks, it’s a month with 5, you have a part time player with 7.5 sacks.
No one is paying top dollar for that.

This also doesn’t take into account that if yin asked him to be an every down player on the edge he is too small to hold up, so you are not getting a full time player

He was a home grown guy I had wished we retained.. but we knew enough about our team. They have a number for each and every player.. I'll say the one guy that didn't give a home town discount was Moss!
