OT: Jonathan Taylor requested Colts to trade him (Edit: RBs unhappy around the league)

I think the NFL needs to implement some sort of playtime bonus pay system for RBs that adds to their salary based on playtime. Significant bonuses too.
Its a more physically demanding position than most and they are more rundown than most by the time they get to their second and third contracts.
Fixing the salary system for RBs could also make them more important again if the feature back won't be as much a financial burden.
Poor running backs. Their market is only 7 figures instead of 8 figures per year.

They should let RB's be free agents with no tag, if they play the entire rookie contract.
The tag is the only thing that lets them have some sort of leverage for a larger than typical contract...

As long as a back or two gets tagged, the aav on RB contracts will grow, instead of contracting due to a glut of competition on the fa market

Are you just ignoring the situation that is brewing across the league with the RBs? I don't see other positions as a group feeling the way RBs do right now.
so the league needs to institute positional socialism because of runnings backs' "feelings"? wtf

So you don't think as a UFA in March Barkley wouldn't have received a Jakobi Meyers/Ju Ju offer?

I think easily he would have.

What situation is brewing?
The position lends itself to short careers, injuries and is the easiest to replace.
If teams do not see value they will pay less.
What is the issue?

The position has become unique to lack of longevity.

A 28 year old RB who has carried a workload is football older than any other position 28 year old by a lot.

So?

This.

Yeah the league might want to start paying attention here.

Why? You think that the league is concerned about the happiness of the players at the position they are devaluing?

If a bunch of them start holding out as a group as was suggested by that article then- yeah I think they will be.

when was the last time a free agent running back got a deal worth more than 10m a year? I can't remember when the last time was...

Dalvin Cook will be a good indicator of the free agent value of quality running backs...

They don't have to and it will probably settle itself through the years but I don't like seeing the best RBs holding out and demanding trades because of a flawed system that doesn't let them get their money until their legs are close to dried up.

simple solution, don't be a running back....these guys get 200K+ worth of education, plus NIL $, plus well over a million a year....and we're supposed to throw a fund raisers for them? guess what, you don't like running back $, then don't be one..."their money"? last I checked it's the owners $

They aren’t going to treat the entire position differently because a few players hold out.

How is the system flawed?
