OT: Thinking of those who live on the West Coast of Florida

Yeah. They’re a news network who needs ratings. The best way to get that is to drum up maximum fear and destruction.
They do of course but sometimes its legit. The authorities are warning of the same things. The ones hunkering down out of macho arrogance should be charged the cost of any rescue.

LOL

Just cracked open my first bottle of liquor. Suntory Toki Whiskey. Delicious Japanese whiskey established in 1923, before the Americans whipped their asses up and down the Pacific. I’m a fan.
I was once gifted a bottle of Suntory Yamazaki, aged 25 years. It was amazing.

Whats so funny?

Because not everyone has the means to leave the area and have no choice but to hunker down...so it was a stupid thought to begin with.

Every county in FL has open, free, safe high ground shelters and free transportation to get there, at least until the winds started to blow. Everyone had a choice, and if you're oceanside in a mandatory evacuation zone and decided "Nah, I'm good" then you might be in the running for a Darwin award.

I said the ones with a choice. The ones doing it out of arrogance. Like the people that ignore closed road signs or climb in no trespassing cliffs. Like they make idiots that drive their cars on frozen lakes or ponds pay.

Now that we’ve moved on from the angry, little guy, I’ll respond to this - should I go and pick up a bottle? I went for the Toki for reasons I honestly don’t know. Is Yamazaki better?

Everyone's situation is different. What if you have a bed-written family member that simply cannot leave your house due to medical reasons?

How are you going to prove that?

It's Japanese whiskey. Already past 1:00 in the morning tomorrow.
Plus... Bill just named Hoyer the starter on Sunday.

I'm at work but I wish that I had a bottle...

Doesn’t mean it’s macho pride or toxic masculinity or whatever other buzzwords the little women want to throw around. You’d be surprised at how many people who are on the spectrum live alone around us. Their day to day is routine-based and the thought to leave may not have even occurred to them. There are also a lot of idiots who are not on the spectrum, though, who think the house will stay put as long as they’re in it.

I am not enough of an expert to tell. I think that Toki is a blend and that Yamazaki is not. Which means, I would think, that Toki is probably more consistent. Yamazaki is intended to be aged. I guess certain whiskies age particularly well, like wines, but others don't. Maybe that means it also has great years, good years, and so-so years, for some reason.

I was gifted my bottle when I did some work for a Japanese pharma company. My wife isn't into whiskey so I haven't gone for more.

How are you going to prove that?
You can't but you know there's plenty that do. There's an evacuation order. DeSantis is telling people to evacuate. People that stay when they have the means to leave put themselves, possibly their loved ones and rescuers in unessesry risk. Its arrogant, selfish and cost everyone money.

Great, you can lead the charge by petitioning the state's attorneys office to prosecute them...I'm sure they'll be glad to consider the opinion of a stupid New Englander.

OK, let's move this one along. This argument will go nowhere and there's no trophy for who is the wittiest, so let's just move on.

Checked Punta Gorda and low tide is ~noon, high tide ~6PM, so landfall will be nearer to low tide. Meaning... at least there's ~2 ft less water than there would be at high tide. That is, if it's passed through there well before 6.
