OT: Thinking of those who live on the West Coast of Florida

Far reaching effects from Ian. Delray Beach just south of us in WPB.

Doppler radar can spot rotations in real time and get out warnings. There was an outbreak of tornados last night, though most seemed to not touch down. Delray wasn't so lucky. I am up near Jupiter and we had warnings running from about 9:30PM to 11PM or so, then calm. Our 6 inches of rain seems to be about over.

Ian is setting the record for 2022 storm intensification rapidity. Like the flood factor system, the storm intensification system is out of date.

Just watching the Naples Pier webcam and there are a few people on the beach side of the pier watching the storm waves pound the beach. I guess these guys are confident the worst of the storm will pass by further north !!

The Weather Channel is so funny right now. I counted 13 uses of the word “destructive” in a 5-minute broadcast period. They also used the term “catastrophic” a ton, too, but I didn’t do a count.

They’re veterans. They’ve been through this before.

I remember watching the news from a hotel in Byron GA after we evacuated St Pete during Irma and when it looked like it didn't hit as hard as it was predicted there was one weatherman on the scene somewhere in the Tampa area who was talking about how the worst was over. He was talking to two anchors in a studio somewhere who seemed to almost argue with him about how bad it still could be try to push the narrative that we should still be very afraid instead of hanging onto any sliver of optimism. While this storm does seem to be significant the news does like to spin it into an all out catastrophe no matter what happens.

Jesus

They were saying last night on the news they're expecting at least a 12-foot rise in water in areas along the coast, which is just unreal. Definitely crossing my fingers and hoping for the best for the people who live there :(

They need to get the F_CK OUT.

Yeah. They’re a news network who needs ratings. The best way to get that is to drum up maximum fear and destruction.

We would have left. A Cat 4 that close to the coast is no joke. I remember what the one that hit Pensacola did a couple of years ago, not worth the risk. A Cat 3 might tear off some shingles and cause a bad surge. A 4 or higher is just way too strong and could compromise the roof even if it's a block house. Not to mention the surge from that strong of a storm is pretty crazy, which we'll probably see. Key West's streets were underwater last night and the storm didn't even come close to hitting it directly, I can only imagine what that area is about to deal with.

The time for that has long since passed. Now they need to stay put and hunker down now. And don’t bother calling 911. They won’t be coming out.

Kinda hard to make a call when you're 10 feet under water. It's not too late. They just have to drive 30 miles inland. Anywhere but that downtown coastal area.

The issue is going to be if the bridges are closed. If they're closed, they're stuck :(

Bridges are likely already closed in those areas. In Florida, you’re not getting far if you can’t get over a bridge. I don’t have to tell you that, though. You should already know. If you have not evacuated by now, you’re an idiot. Stay put, get to higher ground if needed, and pray to the God of your choice.

EDIT: @Ian beat me to it.

Just cracked open my first bottle of liquor. Suntory Toki Whiskey. Delicious Japanese whiskey established in 1923, before the Americans whipped their asses up and down the Pacific. I’m a fan.

LOL, it's 12:03pm and you posted that 6 minutes ago. A little early to be cracking into that before noon - although, it's more jealousy than anything since I like where your head is at

If you watched earlier there is quite a difference with the surge over the pier now.
